Contemplating Buying a more Modern Helmet..
Generally, I prefer a boonie hat, but sometimes safe is better than sorry..
My good ole Steel Pot is well past its Prime, except for use for field Hygiene..
For some things, it is STILL THE BEST!
Choices are:
PASGT, "Fritz"
ACH/MICH
British MK VI
New British MK VII
Opinions???? (on the helmets)..

:noid This.
Actually, I like the German Late War WW2. I was amazed when we were first issued Kevlars
and how similiar they are in shape.

If that works for you, good on ya!
But I require something a little more substantial!

Reply to your edit..
Yeah, it is a sure statement about the old German M44 design..
They say protection wise, the old WW1 Stahlhelm was even better..
I wish I could get a German M38 Para Helmet made on Modern materials..
I'd be all over that!

Funnily enough I own a PASGT and a British Mk6 and 6A in my small collection of helmets. Including several M1s. I'd prefer the PASGT if I had to wear it for real. Most of the world's armies agree as they all seem to wear some form of variation Including the Germans:

Thanks for an honest Opinion..
Protection wise, the MK VII is the best.. Only one that
can take a direct hit from an SS109 AP round.. US forces
are switching to the MICH/ACH now.. Lots of Fritz helmets
are on the market right now.. Might just go with that..
Interferes with my hearing and Peripheral vision tho..

I really like the parallel side pads on Brit Helmets..
Excellent for mounting rails and accessories...
Great design feature!

Why did they put the visor on the rear of the helmet?

Well the British mark 7 has proved itself.:

A Royal Irish Regiment soldier was saved by his helmet.
Meanwhile the Irish army use the Israeli Rabintex helmet. It resembles the ACH/MICH: (http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5077/5838418441_b6142e6d9b.jpg)
They have used Israeli helmets for many years now. There's a certain logic to it. The Israelis have seen a lot of combat. You would imagine they have the whole protection idea worked out. Obviously the Irish army agrees.

There are a few odd ones that aren't really available yet..
Like the New SAS helmet, and that new Delta Force helmet..
Good point about the Israeli helmet, I'll have to look into it more..
Just hadn't thought of it..

Is it for biking or just for hiding in? I was under the impression that the SAS were wearing the Mk7 when they wear one, and the Delta one (if you mean the Blackhawk Down one) was a cheaply bought skateboarding helmet with no ballistic protection
-
what is your reason for buying one?

No they have new ones that are similar to the impact helmets.. But made of ballistic ceramic, compressed spectra and aluminum oxide powder.. Same stuff the ESAPI plates are made of.. They look like a "Full Cut" bike helmet.. But with attachment points added.. Smaller and lighter, less clunky, but still with decent coverage.. NEW, SWEET!

Can't believe all these cartoon fighter pilots have not posted something like this.

Right on topic… I just had to buy a helmet. I’m participating in my first organized bicycle race, and they require all riders to wear a bicycle helmet. I searched high and low for one with personality. and found this gem on ebay.

It’s a 1983 SkidLid. I was nervous about buying it without being able to try it on… But when it arrived in the mail, there was magic in the air. It fit on my head like Cinderella’s foot in the glass slipper. BOOM-BABY!
I’ve added a Schlitz beerview mirror, so I can see the traffic behind me.
BTW here is the event I entered, The “Tour De Doughnut”. The ride is 32 miles with two doughnut stops. They deduct 5 minutes from your ride time for every doughnut you eat during the race. It sounds like a hoot!
