If windows native drivers work better than nvidia native you have a big problem somewhere. Try driver cleaner or a complete fresh reinstall of windows and then installation of all current drivers. One word of advice - never accept graphics or network drivers that windows offers through windows update. They're easyest way to mess up your computer. Use the ones supplied by the card manufacturer.

The best drivers will be the ones NVidia came out with just before they replaced that video card with a new generation of products.

skuzzy i seem to remember a thread about nvidia drivers where it was mentioned that updating to 301.42 would be an improvement for the 9xxx or 8xx cards.

More often that not, drivers created 3, or more, years after a product has been discontinued are going to be problematic.  If I recall, we are still using the 176.xx or 175.xx drivers in house for those older cards as most every driver after that seem to create problems of one sort or another.

I'm not sure that you're going to find any better, more specific answers.  You can always try out the latest one, and compare it to the one Skuzzy suggests.  Benchmark them, and let us know the results and any problems.  Of course, have things backed up in case you hose your system.  I have no idea what the probability of that occurring is, it was semi-likely back in the day, but I have a feeling the 9xxx series isn't back-in-the-day enough, so you're probably ok.
