...for two tours...
...just to see if I can get any good at it...
...and eventually apply pwnage to the best P38 pilots in their own ride. :D
Starting off with the P38J :aok

Oh, thank god. I thought for a sec you were breeding. <phew>.

Missing capitalisation to indicate the start of a sentence, a comma, a full stop and the redneck malapropism was entirely unnecessary. I'm also unsure of the significance of the space at the start of the uncapitalised sentence.

Oh, thank god. I thought for a sec you were breeding. <phew>.
:rofl :rofl
Good luck with that Who. Prepare for many sorties of death and humility. And the pwnage thing?.......... :lol yeah okay

Get over the initial frustration and you'll fall in love with the 38. Good luck.

Make sure you don't take more than 50% fuel... If you need more fuel take Drops...
Other than that drain your RA and LA fuel first so you can get a smidge better roll rate...
Try to stay away from flat turns :rock
-
Gonna take more than 2 hours Middy. I've been at it for almost a year and I am about to give up on it. I love the 38 but I completely suck in it and dying more than killing gets old although that may be par for your coarse anyway. Good luck!

Try the P-47D :)

Wonder how long this will last, or after 400hrs and 2,000 sorties later:)
-
Can I get some cool wquip with that?
-
Honestly, good for you. :salute
-
Lot of great advice from you all. Thank you very much. :salute :rock
Going to learn this, and yes, will likely be thousands of sorties in the next two tours. :)
-
I'll be very impressed if you actually stick with it. Good job Midway :aok

great news!
will happily have some 1v1s with you.

Figuring the kid may be finally trying to get the training wheels off..... not sure as he is ignored. If he is trying to learn the 38 he will see just how easy the spit/trainer is. The 38 is just one of the birds in Aces High that actually takes quite some time to master.
If he is actually trying to shed his training wheels I wish him luck in his endeavor.

used properly it is an extremely deadly plane.....I would say it takes more discipline to fly, sticking to its strengths, not necessarily skill....obviously, different then the spit 8/9/16 ..... still used right the 38 with its ballistics, the climb.... the speed.....
it is one to be wary of, especially when I know someone who flies its constantly around and is good, who will fight in it, not just tr to turn right away, but using the vert just enough, not BnZing 4K away.....then I know I am in for a fight.....
it is gonna take middy a long time to get there, the one difference is he will be dieing to noobs again, he wont like that and in 3 weeks he will go back to spit. :rofl (if that)
-
remember midway, chicks dig bomber pilots :D

OMG! Another 38 stick in the making? I agree with Ink, not as an insult though (and I don't think Ink was trying to insult). I have done pretty well in the PonyD and can handle most of the other birds per se, but mastering is very frustrating. I spent a couple tours doing a majority in the Dora and it gets plain frustrating to lose far more then you win.
Best of luck on it. The big question, if you do in fact master this are you going to start flirting with the 80th? If so, my vote they have to take you into the fold.

I can see it now... AKAK and Midway climbing out, chatting, getting up to alt, looking like we're on an AH date... because... well... we are.
Discussing life, growing our young budhood :) :) as we look for bad guys... :airplane: :airplane:
We see one, swoop down, one at a time, gracing the bad guy with our brief presence... just to form back up as all buds do in life, not even mentioning what just took place... because... among buds, well... it's not necessary.
Our budhood grows, we become the goal of all buds... ultimate buds, forever bonded in our awesomeness. AKAK tells Aces High stories... I laugh... we look at our fuel gauges, still near 100% with drop tanks... we fly on... so much sky... so much time... just AKAK and me... and the clouds below us. Whom will we grace next with our awesomeness?
:salute my future P38 bud.... may our future budhood grow strong... and lasting... :rock

Aww, AKAK not in the 80th. Guess it'll have to be Delirium or Shuffler or someone. :frown:
Maybe AKAK joins when I get my invite? :)

good on you midway....Golly-geeit!!!! yet another 38 I have to be alert for .... one of the two aircraft when used right that are just a pain in the butt ownage machine ...... love/hate relationship with those 38 drivers
hahaha Golly-geeit ... hahahaha where does this program come up with its re-names of words hahaha

I don't know which is funnier, Akak's reaction to his new "bud" or Del and Shuff's....it's a toss up :D

Hey middy, When I get back home tomorrow night I wouldn't mind some 1v1 action. As stated before I am absolutely horrible in the 38 but I enjoy 38vs38 fights win or lose. My 38G vs your 38J?

Give it a week.
Liking the P38J... snap rolling well now... dual throttle controlling rolls... using flaps for tight diving loops... starting to move better and better... and it's only day two. :x
PS: She even figure skates nicely on the runway with seperate throttle control. :D

Im glad to see you broadening your horizons Midway. The 38 is a plane that will demand you to improve your SA or you will die A LOT. I can see you being pretty good in 1v1 situations, but I think your biggest problem will be getting yourself into situations where there is no escape. Your fangs come out way too often...Your patience must improve. I flew the 38 exclusively for the first 5 years I was in this game. It is a fantastic ride, and a lot of fun. You are going to go through a lot of pain at first. It is a huge target, and everyone wants to kill it...Don't look at your score...Just keep flying and improving. I am hoping that your new plane choice will calm you down and make you a little more tolerable on 200 :pray

how does it feel to get killed by spitfires in 2 turns middy? :)

how does it feel to get killed by spitfires in 2 turns middy? :)
Only been shot down by two Spitfires and guessing they were picks... so don't know yet. One of the reasons I picked th P38J is because there are a few pilots that can always win in them against my Spitfire. I intend to figure out why and do the same. :D
-
btw, most people don't feel the need for a thread every time they try a new ride :headscratch:
-
I will now fly the p51 for 3 months :old:
-
I spent one sortie looking for those two in a 110g as they bantered back and forth but got distracted by a 190d, P51, and a P47.
All 3 were tasty but I ran out of fuel.

Nice Mid, whilst people find your continual look at me postings and 200 annoying, you dont run from a fight (that I've seen), and always give your best.
The 38 is a beautiful bird, my 2nd favourite in fact - sorry, but nothing beats the spit v for me. May you have much fun, and I hope to find some time to fly around giving easy kills today.

Awesome, someone will be much easyer to kill.

Did you just admit that I am much harder to kill in my awesome and mighty Spitfire? :O
You keep telling me how easy it is to kill me in my Spitfire... yet here we have a "Freudian slip". :D

I take offence to that DB, I'm always easy to kill....errr, hold on, you meant Midway, carry on :-D

Uhm...
someones spit8 gets repeatedly pwned by a dumbnewb in an aircraft he can outaccelerate, outclimb, outturn, outgun, whatever -> he switches to the p38 -> he becames super easy cause his plane cant outturn, outclimb, outroll my plane anymore, he is forced to use his brain but he cant because the monthly 400 hours in the spit8 for 2 years made his combinating skills to wither.
Sounds like a logical consequence to me, but correct me if i am wrong.
-
:huh :huh If you flew every plane but the Spits....you would get respect. Till then, Carry on! :neener: :neener: :neener: :neener: :neener: :neener: :neener: :neener:

Maybe if you had not been so desperate to illicit a response to your diatribe and maybe exercised a vestige of magnanimity, then there would be any number of guys willing to help you.

Here are my P38J notes so far... based mostly on what others have told me. :aok
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Biggest trick to the P38J is to change the fight from fast to slow or vice versa quickly.
Don't use more than 2 or 3 notches flaps unless alone in a slow stall fight.
Seperate engine control can help roll faster but not turn faster.
Set longer gun convergance to raise the trajectory of rounds so you don't have to lead so much.
Use combat trim unless very fast or very slow... then set manual trim to middle of range.
Try to stay away from flat turns (although some say they are fine).
Drain wing tanks first to get slightly better roll.
Fight with 50% fuel or less, so use DTs to increase range. (altough some says 100% fuel + DT are fine).
25% fuel adds about 600 lbs. of weight.
Use snap rolls to avoid guns as a defensive tactic.
Be patient, don't get overly aggressive (lose E) too quickly.
When diving use rudder, opposite aileron, and flaps to slow or loop around quickly.
Chop throttle when diving. P38s pick up speed very fast due to weight.
Full throttle plus wep when climbing to counteract gravity.
P38 has an easier time fighting uphill, than downhill.
Don't be afraid to move the ailerons a lot to maintain a stall.

the only thing the 38 has that is dangerous is its guns, like the A20 ya a good stick may make it a bit harder to kill....but against a real fighter they are mince meat......in most AH fights....not real world.....IN THE GAME........
why you chose that to move on to..... :headscratch:
its just a big target :aok
no offense to those that like the 38........and actually fight in it.

Because there are a few, very few though, pilots that turn my Spitfire into a cheap toy with their P38J. TwinBoom and Mercy, for example. I have no chance... so there is more to the aeroplane than meets the eye... I want to figure it out... and it's very different than the Spitfire. :)

Hmm, IMO, besides the F4U-4, best American fighter plane.

That could be true... because Bruv sure does the same to me (cheap toy that I am to his Spitfire).
Wonder who would win... Bruv's/Kazaa's Spitfire vs TwinBoom's/Mercy's P38?
Actually, am pretty sure I already know the answer. :salute Bruv119 & Kazaa :rock

ignoring the fact that the P38 is a flying bath tub and only good for level bombing there is a great account of the mission to kill yamamoto that you will enjoy reading Midway.
Sqd Leader Mitchell had an A-team plan and succeeded with the longest fighter intercept of WW2.

Hmm, IMO, besides the F4U-4, best American fighter plane.
thats all well and good, lots say the 51 is the best "fighter"....38 is a great plane, the guy who brought me to AH loved the 38....I know how good it is....but does not change the fact, it is one big target :P
my point is mid can barely fly the spit, thinking he is going to learn and master the 38 is, laughable......its like the guy you just owned a few times coming back in the plane that you owned him in....not gonna make a bit of difference.

middy....it has very little to do with the plane, you think just because they can beat you in your "spitfire" while in the 38, thats because you don't understand ACM and what little you do know you don't use properly.....
those guys KNOW ACM and USE it properly.
you would be better off asking those guys for some lessons, get in a fighter, that is not so forgiving as the spit, hell even take the spit 5......or the F4U's......or 205(actually a very good fighter)
good luck with that 38 :aok

:huh You're making me wanna up my Spitfire and show you a few things... extract some "ns" and "dang, you got me again" PMs from you... but... am gonna be disciplined... and stick to my P38J for at least two months. So, count yourself (and your KI) lucky... it doesn't have to deal with my Spitfire schooling you a bit -- yet. :joystick:
I do realize that you're very good in the KI, but am pretty sure I can down you, with some frequency, at least that's what I think based on seeing how you fly, although we haven't had much chance to fight lately. :)
That's my opinion and attitude at least... time will tell if you'll come to agree with me, later this year. :D

middy you go on and on about you owning people yet any time I saw you you were in a green cloud...I see you every time I fly and you are always staying near friends.....
the hours you put into flying you still have no clue......
oh well it takes all kinds. :aok

you know middy.....I have tried to give you advice, on how to get better, so has so many others......every time I log in, what name do you think I see first on 200.....gee yours.....
I thought maybe you had potential and were just..... I dont know, looking for attention....then I thought you were like 12......but supposedly you are much older then that....I am done with you...this will be my last post/response/help/advice/....I am tired of you and your antics....you are now officially the first person, I am going to put on my ignore list.

Like I said, we haven't fought much lately. I actually fly alone a lot, esp during the day, and have many 1 v 1s. I win most of them, by far. I pretty much know which less than a dozen pilots I can not beat. You're not in that group yet, primarily because I haven't found you much recently, and the few times I have, the fights seemed very winnable.
I know you think you're awesome, and maybe you are... am opened minded about that... but haven't seen the evidence -- yet. I wouldn't be surprised, when I beat you a few times... You'll just say "but you're in a spit". I hear that a lot... and then I'll say "but you're in a KI, don't blame me for your choice of aeroplane." :)
I remember our first 1 v 1 and I smoked your KI... You were impressed... And I've gotten much better since then. Maybe you have too... I don't know. We'll see. Just sayin...
PS: Nuff of this talk.. Time for me to get back into my noob P38J state of mind... At east for a couple of months. :joystick:

hehehe....too true....
Oh you mean in game,,, yea sure :noid

ignoring the fact that the P38 is a flying bath tub and only good for level bombing there is a great account of the mission to kill yamamoto that you will enjoy reading Midway.
Sqd Leader Mitchell had an A-team plan and succeeded with the longest fighter intercept of WW2.
Just read about it... very cool. :aok

Flying coffin, so far. :uhoh
go in the training arena, and experiment in it. max. fuel load should be 50% internal, and 2 drops. you can jettison the drops. i like using them when i'm bomber hunting.
never.....NEVER flat turn against little wiggly airplanes. use the vertical. speed no lower than about 250. set your convergence all the way out to 650, as your guns are all in the nose. never go more than 20 degrees flaps. you can sometimes, but beyond that much you're creating a lot more drag than lift. you need to learn to work the flaps.

He doesn't have a clue. :devil

who must be getting frustrated in the P-38, he's already broken his word and upped other planes. Guess the Lightning was just too much plane for him to handle.
ack-ack

anything less is just half a plane. :D

Huh? Just because I up a TA152 or ME262 to chase some high alt bombers doesn't mean anything and certainly not "broken his word".
337 out of 346 sorties are in the P38 this tour. So 9 out of 346 aeroplane sorties are not the P38. Just because I up, on very rare occasion, something else for a specific purpose is no reason to jump to silly conclusions.
I do miss my Spitfire though, but do find the P38 fun although somewhat restrictive when low and slow. :frown:

Just shows that the P-38 is proving to be too frustrating for you to handle. Someone who claims to be "dedicating" themselves to flying the P-38 would stick with it when the going got tough instead of hopping into planes like the La7 out of frustration.

Just shows you have difficulty with basic math, ratios, proportions, and common sense.
See... 1 LA7 sortie / 346 sorties = .00289 = 0.3% rounded to the 3rd decimal = 0% rounded to the nearest full percentage = meaningless. Does that help? :bhead

I love my 38J and I usually do well with her. Great gun package too; four 50 cals and a 20mm all pakced in the nose :devil
-
If you like attention, you will get it, she is a big target and most will druel when they see one low, it's like you having a pork chop tied to your tail and everyone wants some. I will say you should never get bored in her maybe just frustrated .........but then again girls can do that to a guy :aok

a few years back, i was cruising along in my 38 o doom. came upon a fight. 3 or 4 red spits vs 2 friendlies....i forget what they were....anyway, i dove in to even the odds.....by the time i got there, one of the friendlies was shot down. once i was in the fight, virtually every red guy forgot about the other friendly, and came after my 38 o doom........i beat feet and got the hell outta there, lolol

How the diddly do you find time for 350 sorties in two weeks? Are you Jabba the Hutt?

2.5 hours per day. About 23 sorties per day. About 6 to 7 minutes per sortie. I up bases where the fight is nearby. :joystick:
2.5 hours per day makes you ask such a silly question?

2.5 hours EVERY day for 2 weeks. The question is quite apt

It's an average, silly. Some days none, some days more. Why do you even care? :headscratch:
Mind your own business. :old:
