412th and 332nd were assigned to attack A61, we launched 6 formations of B-25s and the Mongrels launched 4 formations of Bostons.
We formed and flew a great formation and were met by our Thunder Mob escort as we headed out over the channel at 10K. We flew right into the sun and the dawn launch was awesome on the new glass effects.
We were intercepted by a lone 109 then they just kept coming in what seemed like small 3-4-5 groups, after persistent attacks, our escort was no where to be seen but we had only lost a few ships and were still relatively in formation. We shot down and damaged several 109s. We then came under attack near the field and started to take heavy damage. My top turret gunner was killed and I lost my lead ship and was severely damaged in my 2nd.
I'm not a good bomber, in fact I can't bomb at all, but I coordinated my drop with our lead bomber Drano and managed to destroy a Bomber Hangar and several other objects. When we came off the target we had 3 formations left, Baumer, Drano and myself. USAAF99 was on the deck RTB.
We then came under attack again as we were feet wet, we put our formations in shallow dives and beat hell out of there when some friendly fighters arrived. I landed 2 of my 3 ships.
Action was very intense! Great job Mongrels! I'm not a big fan of bombers, but we have been having fun as of late in our assignments. <S> FSO Screenshots to follow.

Was a real good time.
III/JG11 and LCA were tasked with attacking A24 with (20) Bf109E-4's, used as fighter bombers. The remainder of both squadrons flew escort in F-4's. RAF resistance was stiff, and our outnumbered F's tangled with multiple groups of Spit1's and 5's over target while our Jabo force of Emil's dove under, and made our attack. For some reason their were enemy aircraft on the runways and also climbing out low from the target (?). As soon as the eggs left the rack we proceeded to destroy the low enemy Spits. Our F's were eventually defeated and more and more Spit5's arrived and/or descended to deal with our aging Emil's. We were hard pressed but made a good showing and many RAF fighters were taken down.
Only 4 Emil's of III Gruppe made it back to France in flight worthy condition. 3 of us rearmed and launched...heading toward the Pas da Calais. Linked up with some friendlies and fought it out between A46 and the English port and city complex on the opposite shore, until damage and/or lack of RAF targets ended the night.
Hard fought action all frame. A serious dogfighting matchup in this one. Very immersive.

It was 9GIAP that intercepted and picked away at you guys on the way to 61. Your escort seemed to dissolve. We rearmed and intercepted you on the way home over the water too. Glad you got some planes back. <S>

The BOB Scenario's continue to be some of the best:
The 325th VFG along with the 334th, 35th, 367th and 49th all defended A18. Probably about 35-45 AC in total.
At about H+40 AXIS AC JU88's and 109 escorts were sighted south of A18 about 12 miles from their drop. A really nice looking formation of JU88's line abreast in formation. Looked like about 10 sets with another 10 or so 109's escorting. At least that's what i thought I saw :)
3 of the 5 squads nearly converged on the bomber formation all at once which overwhelmed the defending 109's. Several of the Spit drivers engaged the 109's and tried to drag them low and away from the bombers which seemed to work to some degree.
The JU88 continues to be a really tuff target against the Spit armed with BB's. I know I made 2 pass's on the same JU88 and couldn't get the engines to catch fire. Was beginning to think my BB's had been replaced by Nerf balls!!!
A18 damage was pretty light. The industruble Hanger was completely destroyed, excellent drop there by the ALLIED secret agent bombardier that has infiltrated the AXIS ranks :noid 2 secondary targets were burning, fuel I believe.
A great fight with the retreating 109's took place after the drop with Spits chasing the slightly faster 109's. Great discipline of some of the 109 flyer's.
A lot of Spits were lost to damage and out right being shot down. As there was only a handful of Spits remaining after the initial attack. What was left rearmed and headed south to support a G3MF second strike to A39 late frame. Down at A39 my small group of 4 Spits heading north went head on into a group of 10-14 109's coming south at about 18K. Needless to say we blew through them and got out of there before it was to late. We covered a Boston coming home and then landed to tower out with 5 minutes left in the frame.
Like I said in the beginning the BOB Scenario's are the best. The plane match ups are really close and the action is none stop for at least an hour. I'd prefer to fly BOB Setups every other FSO!! Great setup CM's :salute

I think most of your damage at A-18 came from the flight of Jabo 109Es that struck from the North just as the JU88s were coming in from the South. Not a lot of mayhem can be accomplished with a single 250kg bomb so we targeted soft structures on the airfield. We were ordered to launch alone and completely separate from the the other three units that were in on the A18 attack. From take off until we were over the target we never even in vox range of another Luftwaffe unit so it felt like we were given a suicide mission. We accomplished our mission we got in struck the target and got out South. There were some RAF Spits and Hurris low when we attacked the base but we picked up enough smash to blow through them and get out to sea. According to system messages we destroyed six targets, we only lost one 109E in the attack. We will have to wait and see once the logs are posted on the exact damage we managed to pull off.
Here's a shot of two of our guys passing over A18 last night.

G3-MF was tasked to fly in as escort/attack on A39. Not sure exactly what happened but the Swampdragons didn't make it to FSO last night. This left us with the decision to run with the 4 sets of Bostons we had on the originally planned route and G3-MF with 14 Hurricane 2Cs to attack on a direct route, knowing we were probably going to have to pickle ord before we ever got to target.
In the beginning, we encountered 2 scouts. Then we ran into a squad of very well disciplined 109s. It was extremely difficult to pull them down and they coordinated their fight in the vertical almost professionally. We managed to fight through them and make our way home due to damage, low fuel from the fight and most of us with extremely limited ammo. We left in disghust thinking we left our Bostons out to hang and dry. We simply had no option and simply couldn't get in to them.
What we didn't realize, is that we drew the 109s away from our Bostons (Air Raiders) and managed to get a good portion of the 109s down to low altitude. The Air Raiders dropped over target dropping 2 or 3 hangers and softening up two. They didn't get jumped until after they dropped their ord. Unfortunately, all but 1 boston made it back thanks to the 325th.
On the way back to rearm, we encountered the escorts attacking A18. We assisted the 325th with what little ammo we had left then rearmed at A17.
After rearming, we went back to A39 and dropped the 2 soft hangers, the radar, and a bunch of guns. Fighting our way back. The 325th worked their way to a point to assist in scrubbing the 109s that were chasing us out of there.
Considering the odds, we went in, drew the enemy away from a very small squad of bombers, allowing them to wreak havoc on the base, then we went back and wreaked more havoc, killing some 109s in the process. That was probably one of the more difficult missions we have done in FSO to date considering the circumstances of one less squad and lower numbers within our akllowed numbers for FSO. I never expectred that the bostons were going to get to target, not to mention we'd get a second strike opportunity and actually inflict the damage that we did.
I salute the Air Raiders for doing a spectacular job over A39.
I salute the 325th Checkertails for their efforts in escorting a lone Boston home and coming back out to help scrub fighters off fo G3-MF.
I salute VF-17 Jolly Rogers for one hell of a fight just outside the DAR at A39. You guys are very well disciplined and skilled in wingman tactics and it showed. We could tell we were up against a squad that knew what the heck they were doing.

when we were heading out to cover you guys near the end of the frame, viper was trying to get vis on you guys. we were around angels 18. as we exited a turn, i came on local vox, calling out "many dots our 12 co-alt". i heard someone say it was probably them, till i called out our altitude...then the ohpoop moment hit. it was a gaggle of 109's, seriously out numbering us. :bolt: :bolt:

Thanks Slip :aok please don't let this info get out, after all we have a reputation as a bunch of pirates. :salute to G3-MF for the second strike, you slipped right past us as we headed north out of 39 looking for a fight at 25k. Possibly went right over ya. We were almost feet dry in England when our base started to flash :O. If it wasn't for Seighin and Ryno spotting you guys on the way out we may not have caught any of you RTBing. You guys didn't make the B&Z easy as you were constantly turning at each other so everything had to be timed to not have 4 hispanos pointing at you from a plane you weren't diving on. A few of us got caught with that, especially the second fight where we came in more piecmeal, so we had less eyes to watch each others as we dropped in.

The Gun Fighters were provided 10 Spit-V’s to escort two squads of 4 Bomber Boxes each, to go attack A-35 along the coast of France. We could not raise the 327th, and never did link up with them. We did, however, manage to link up with ~~~Fate~~~, and provided Bannor and his crew with a bit of escort on their way to target.
The flight across the channel was un-eventful. Fate was flying at 10K and TGF broke into two Divisions, and bracketed FATE’s formations to their left and right at an altitude of 19K. We were so deployed when the first 109’s appeared, just as the coast was in the bombers Bomb Sites. It was a single 109 that screamed through the formation from 1 O’clock. BAKER was in a better position, and so we went down to scrub him off Fate’s Tail-End-Charlie.
The 109 looped around, and he did manage to knock a bit of smoke out of one of the drones, but Catfish showed him the error of his ways and sent him to the drink. As catfish was climbing back up to the bombers, two more 109’s came in from the same 1 O’clock vector. Able was in better position this time, and they moved in to intercept and scrub, while Baker climbed back into position above the bomber group
This wasn’t the optimal deployment, Baker above, and Able behind and climbing, as we flew over the target, and we did see a whole bunch of 109s, but much to our surprise, and to our immense relief, all of the 109’s were below us! The bombers had a clean drop with their full compliment of bombers. Post-Drop, a couple of our members volunteered to anchor over the field and fix the 109’s.
This tactic was 98% successful as we only encountered 2 109’s during the bombers egresses north, and only one of them was from the furball over the base. The other came in from the East and I estimate was probably a returning scout.
By this time it was TripleS and myself who were escorting the bombers out. Able-Flight lead, Razz, had compressed chasing a 109 into the deck. Vertec was in the thick of it over the enemy base, as was Bearcat, Colt45 and the others. Catfish was still trying to catch up to the bombers, and Stretch and Triton were way up north by 46.
TripleS and I worked the 109’s in a fighting egress. Each time a 109 got into position behind one of the bombers, one of us would fly up his six and make him break. We managed to knock down one, and about that time the second decided it would be prudent to target-switch. My first indication was as I tried to vector to the right of the Bomber Stream. The 109’s range kept closing, and his profile wasn’t changing. TripleS cinched it when he said “He’s locked on to you!”
So, here I am, dragging this 109. TripleS is 2K in front of me, and busy trying to protect the bombers from a third fighter that came in from our left as we go feet wet. The guy behind me starts sending out Spray-n-Pray shots, and he’s either lucky or good because a few of his BB’s are scoring a hit or two. No damage, but I know he wants me to jink so he can close for the kill. I’d like to drag him along the bombers flank so they can scrub me, but I’m not sure I can make the angles and not have him close. The situation is starting to look grim, when I get a massive break. Just as I’m thinking this guy is got me, Catfish shows up and scrubs my six!
He blows through and heads up to help TripleS. I am now able to turn the tables on the 109 and get on his Six! He breaks away and dives to the deck. I chase him down to 1K then start a shallow climb. I figure he’ll turn back, but he never does and flies away.
We continue to egress with the bombers and eventually everyone but Catfish lands at 16 to re-arm and re-fuel. Catfish, who had gone AFK to pick up his son (Not the best thing during FSO! LOL) He radios from over A-12. He tells TripleS, Stretch and I that there are bombers escorted by 4 109’s 16K over 12 and heading south. The three of us quickly launch while he refuels at 12. We’re vectoring to intercept and just reach 7K when I spot the bombers.
To my chagrin I realize it’s way to soon to see them if they were still on their original vector. I zoom in and sure enough, they’ve turned South East and are heading directly towards us! I turn my flight around and continue to climb while we parallel their course. Just as we get to altitude, however, and about 3.5 K behind, two 109’s break from the escort, turn around, and try to interdict us.
Meanwhile we have two more that have come in from our 4 O’clock High! We’re pinched between two groups of 109’s, who hold the high ground and the numbers. But we merge and press anyway.
In the first 30 seconds of the fight we’re pushed down from 16K to 10K and Stretch looses a wing in a collision. Now it’s 4 Vs 2. The 109’s hold their advantage close to their chest and they play their hand well. They are handing off attacks, and are never allowing TripleS and I to get up to altitude, or even get a shot.
Then the inevitable happens. I have just dodged two attacks, but was unable to dodge the third. He puts about a 4 inch hole in my oil pan and I start bleeding out the black stuff at a prodigious rate.
At first I think, “Thank God I’m 8 miles from base.” I dive away trying to egress, But as I’m watching that oil pressure needle fall about as fast as my altitude I start to second guess my luck. I pull back on my Throttle and my RPM's and hope I’m not looking at a case of Almost-made-it, where I crumple my plane 50 feet from tarmac. At least the 109’s aren’t following me down!
TripleS covers my egress and goes one more merge before following me home. 4 to 1 odds aren’t to his liking any more than they are mine! We line up on 15’s runway and manage a perfect 3-point landing. As my wheels come to a stop, so does my engine. I breathe a heavy sigh of relief and tower out.
That’s when Catfish calls. “I’m approaching the coast, and I see the fighters!”
I join his plane as a second set of eyes, and have a perfect seat to watch as those same 4 109’s ply their trade. They are working from 18K to 20K and as more fighters come into the area they push them down and take turns picking. After 10 minutes of trying to get an advantage, or even a shot, Catfish and I try to extend and get co-alt before turning back in. We’ve only been away 3 minutes when we get back to the fight. We find the 4 109’s 2K below us, but apparently all the other friendlies have left the area, or been knocked down!
That 2K advantage over the 109’s is quickly bleed away in the first one and a half merges. We’re pushing one and pulling three (Cringe). I’ve got the Track-IR, so I’m twisting in my seat like I’m at a school dance for wheel chair bound students, while I try to keep a good look out the back of the plane. He’s twitching all over the sky like a fly in the death throws of bug poison, and I’m shouting at him to “break, break, Break!” about every 3 seconds. Needless to say, it is not looking good.
I’ve got beads of sweat rolling on my forehead (Pressure, or the sock-hop in my flight seat, I’m not sure) and my sphincter is threatening to let loose, and Catfish is saying “Oh, crap! Oh Crap! Oh CRAP!” over and over again.
Finally he sees an opening and we break for the deck. I’m still watching and to my horror they choose now to go low and press their attack. So, we drag them down to the deck and have to use the ACK over 15 to scrub them. We are thinking “Hey, the guys coming to our aid – for I had been putting the Bogy-Dope on 150 the whole time during this fight – will now have the advantage ‘cause we drug the bandits low.” But no one comes.
Finally, not wanting to push 4 to 1 odds any further, we take the opening the ACK umbrella gave us and shoot back over to 16 to land.
All in all, one of the better BOB frames I’ve seen.

As a member of the famed G3MF, I survived the first round about with VF-17, and I was able to make the attack on A39. I was flying wing to NAVCAD and we had rolled in on A39 from 15k, we dropped a hangar and were eggressing out, when 2 109's came in from about 18 k. They were BnZing and we caught one after he lost his E and oiled him, Biggamer also was with us when we had the second one trapped, I don't remember if we killed him or not. That's when the gaggle of VF-17 came in on us. I outmaneuvered a few you guys, with some turns and rolls, I put rounds into one 109, but no damaged was observed that I could see. Then while I was to turn I had my brains blasted all over the inside of my Hurricane by 2 109's that would not let me slip away. It was a fun fight, and a tough one at that.
:salute to VF-17

Shifty - I doubt any of the defenders of A18 even saw your JABO run in all of the confusion. Well timed sir!! :salute I was one of the band of Spits chasing you guys out south. I thought you were part of the JU88's escort that got drug low. Now it makes since as to why so many 109's were low :) Nicely done sir, nicely done.

The two who were in contact with you over base were Seighin and his Wingy. When the main group joined up, that was fun lol. I know I completly flamed a Hurri as it was outmanuvering like 3 guys from V17. That Hurri looked like he was hanging on the prop and I just shot him dead on. (may have been you?) Can't wait to get the logs. :salute to you and G3MF

<S> G3MF. I know for a fact I shot the tail off one hurri, but for the rest of the fight, technology was trying its hardest to screw me. I start my dive into the fight and right as i start to fire, my track IR freaks out and im stuck looking though my bellybutton into the bottom of the cockpit. Repeat this about once every 30 seconds. :furious

when base 18 came under attack we in the 35th were about 24K alt slightly north of it. All our protecting fighters vectored to the nme bombers coming from the south. Knowing that our fellow fighters had the BB's for main guns we three continued to climb north for a couple of minutes counting on our other squads to shake off the bomber escorts and allow us with our Hispanos a better solution when we dove in. Just north of 18 we three turned south reacting to radio traffic from the Checkertails and vectored accordingly. Upon coming over our other squads we sighted the JU-88 formations and dove. Our first past desimated multiple formations immediately, sending half of the ones that didn't explode to the ground trailing smoke streams and parts. After our second pass there were only a few formations remaining in various forms of disarray. At this point the 35th was repositioning for the mop up of what was left with the other squads that made it back to the bombers and I was Winchester. I immediately called out rtb for rearm and nosed in for A18 from plus 15K hoping to get back up for more action. At 400 mph plus in a screaming dive into A18 I noticed aircraft circling our base and about 2k from the ground while pulling up to level I realized my base was capped by 109's!!! They at this point were on the deck and I played hell to avoid them so I could land. Thanks to some ack the 109's kept pretty much on the perimeter of the base and I began a tight left circle on the airfield to bleed my E and line up on the runway to rearm when . . JOYSTICK MALFUNCTION!!! . . just snap rolled me nose in to the run way! YAY, amaizingly my stick is still with me as I type this but it nearly became a pile of plastic junk when this happened. So go the breaks and even with the bad one I had it was absolutely a great night of fun. Sure hope we get to see the logs for this one because we finally got to use a potent aircraft with the ultimate position and alot of kills, at least a half dozen for the three of us and as many as a dozen, we need our logs to verify this... Great FSO!!! :airplane:
I wondered what those 109's were down on the ground for at that moment and would've never realized why without reading the previous posts, so if any of you German flyers saw me crash into the runway at that moment, you now know why :salute

You were intercepted by Nightmares VMF-101 at first then 9GIAP rolled in on top a couple of minutes later. We had 11 in the mission last Friday... awesome! Half of us 9GIAP went after the Spits who were left up top by the Nightmares, and the other half followed Dantoo into your Boston and B-25C formation. We kept up the attacks as we tried to re-group at high speed ie. our trailing guys (who got the Spits up above) caught up with your buff trailers and our lead guys kept pressing you in rolling one, two, and three-ship attacks as we tried to break up your bomb run. The bf109F just does not have the speed to let that happen. We all began to eventually run out of ammo and alt. as your last three trios (some partial) dropped on 61.
We then came under attack again as we were feet wet, we put our formations in shallow dives and beat hell out of there when some friendly fighters arrived. I landed 2 of my 3 ships.
Those of us left re-armed in twos and threes and headed on out to try and catch you which I guess we did. The calls from those who caught you first were priceless. "Spits are here!" I, further back from the guys who caught you on your egress, rolled in on a Spit who was chasing Steely, who having dropped on a Spit chasing Dantoo, went up after a pass. I flew right up that Spit's tailpipe. I had too much "E" and flew right into him pumping out the 20 Mike Mike all the time. Steely said later that there was a "mighty bang" and we both disappeared in an explosion. :-)
Action was very intense! Great job Mongrels! I'm not a big fan of bombers, but we have been having fun as of late in our assignments. <S> FSO Screenshots to follow.
Agreed! 9GIAP is "always happy to help" and we fly anything. :-) I've flown two separate FSO frames with 9GIAP in the B-25C and it is always a good night of action. Keep it tight and fast and you are in the ring for the count. That B-25C takes a serious licking and it is a great FSO match-up vs. the Emil and Friedrich.
