Where were you?
I was at work and we all gathered down in the printing hall where there was a TV. No more work was done that day.

Sitting at my desk doing some sort of sales report, listening to the radio. I worked at a chemical company, so after the place was locked down, I headed home to watch the news feed.

i was 11 at the time in 5th grade. i remember it still. when my teacher left class for 10 minutes and came back with a face whiter than a ghost. our whole class wondered what was wrong. she didn't say. she said everything was alright and went on teaching our class... it was 2pm when i finally found out what happened. one of very few moments as a lil kid i remember brighter than day.
and i will never forget it... <S> to the thousands who died that day <S> to the men and women who traveled states and across the country to help new york, the ny police, fire, and emts. and <S> to those fighting in the name of freedom still today.
last but not least. <S> to those who still remember this day 11 years later as many have let it slip into the past already...

Its weird as a bunch of my friends at New York Medical were talking about this same thing couple days ago about how we were all in 6th grade each with different stories. I didnt find out until I go home at 3pm that day as the school would not tell us other than that something has happened to this country that will change our lives. One mentioned how she has lived in Manhattan her whole life and her school was evacuated and everyone sent home. Another had a similar story who was right over the bridge in NJ.
Ill throw in another video of music video dedicated to 9/11

:salute to my fallen countrymen & women. As one of the first 1,000 troops into Afghanistan, I assure you, we paid those suckers back.

i was pretty young, but remember being in school on a beautiful late summer day on 9/11/01 here in the North East - not one cloud in the sky. Today reminded me a lot of that day...it was eerie.

I took this from another board
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYBhgEm3j7A (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYBhgEm3j7A)
Recordings in (almost) sequential order with time stamps. The recordings include that of ATC, the Military, FAA, FBI, Ops Centers, etc. I listened to all 1 hour and 51 minutes of it.

That was fascinating and horrifying at the same time...

I remember being woken up early in the morning by our next door neighbor..the first words out of his shaking voice was "Mike, we are under attack" A few minutes as we were going door to door waking people up in the neighborhood, while inside another persons house, we saw the second plane hit.
That day i learned what true hate & pain was, and its something that will never and cannot ever be washed away with time.
"Your gonna pay for this" is something i think of every time i hear about a drone strike knocking a few more of these..things, off the planet. :rock

I was 7 years old.
Was woken up by mum and dad talking, turned the TV on..
Couldn't understand much... but what I did remember was that it was Terrorists.
I have always been clever, even that young.... I knew what it meant.
when I was 9 I watched the invasion of Iraq live. While the political ramifications escaped my perception.. the message was not. You do not attack our way of life, and simply expect to get away with it. And if you mess with the people who value their freedom and safety more than any other people on this earth.... you have a problem coming.

I was on Ft. Leonardwood, MO breaking down heavy weapons for a training class we were about to start. There was a group on base detail mowing grass across the field and we heard the first report on their radio. Not too much later our CO came out and called us into our barracks/offices to watch. I have to say it was a very eerie feeling watching the events unfold, looking around at each other and not saying a word but knowing we would be going to war at some point soon.
:salute To those who paid the ultimate price that day and to those who continue to be in harm's way.

To be honest I remember where I was and how I felt.
I am already sick of hearing about 9/11. All the rediculous shows airing.
I know about 9/11... it's no Alamo... it's no Pearl Harbor.

I had just walked my daughter to school and remember on the way thee thinking what a nice clear day it was. When I got home I noticed that the TV in the living room where my daughter was watching TV before school had lost signal and was all snow. and thinking. "oh crap. cable is out." Then I walked into my office what we call "the computer room" and my TV was on. I dont remember which channel but it showed the first tower burning and I was thinking "what is this? Some sort of preview for some stupid new Steven Segal movie?" Then I realized it was a rel news broadcast. the guy on TV was saying they werent sure if it was pilot error or if he didnt see the towers. And again I thinking what a stupid statement this is. As I said before It was a perfectly clear day. Not a cloud in the sky
The reporter goes on a bit and he said they were working on getting footage of the collision when suddenly he said. "oh this must be it now" as you could se a plane approaching. Yet neither he nor I at that instant was thinking about the building that was clearly already burning in the foreground. which in the next instant I think at the same time we both realized it was a second plane When suddenly you could see the plane bank and turn right into the building and the reporter said "No thats a second plane. a second plane has just crashed into the other tower."
I was then thinking. "This was no accident. we are under attack"
One of my sons best friends and my daughters friend lost their fathers that day.
I have several customers who had their children there. fortunately only one of those died.
One's daughter was covered by a fireman outside the WTC when it collapsed as she just made it out of one of the towers building moments before it happened.
I was doing a job about 1/4 of mile from McGuire AFB main entrance. and heard abotu the pentagon on the radio on the way there I was surprised at how open the roads were getting there. I had really half expected roadblocks and the military all over the place. But no. Even at the main entrance it seemed business as normal with a service person in dress uniform checking ID's on the way in.
Spent the rest of the day listing to the radio and assorted what turned out to be false reports of bombs and explosions elsewhere in both DC and NYC.
Soon thereafter all I heard outside was the sounds of planes coming in for a landing every minute or so one after the other for hours and they announced on the radio that all planes were to be grounded and that "Any plane being caught in the air WILL be shot down."
End of the day went home and passed by the entrance to McGuire again. but this time the entrance had changed. Gone was the personel in the dress uniform and in their place were soldiers in full combat gear with weapons slung.
Went home and watched the news in shock like everyone else.

Its understandable but interesting how the date effects people from different parts of the country, If your not from the tri state area of NY, NJ or Penn. Your perspective is a bit different. Because while it effected you as Americans. It still didnt happen in your back yard. The reality of it isnt as close
Here with most residents there is rarely more then 1 or 2 degrees of separation between yourself and someone who died or was there. And while even you may personally know or know of one. Most of us here knew or knew of several with rarely more then 1 degree of separation.
If your next door neighbors house burned down and everyone in it died. It would be a travesty to you and we would all agree it was a travesty. But fact of the matter is. While we may know of those people. we didnt know these people. After a while for us it would be. "Ok enough already.the house burned down and people died. Bad break for them." While for you it would still be personal.
Here. Most of us knew these people. It is personal. I knew those two fathers I mentioned above. zero degrees of separation.

Here is a different reporting of the story as it was reported that day from a local talk radio station NJ101.5 with reports and calls in from people reporting what they are seeing.
Slightly different perspective then typical national network news
http://nj1015.com/911-on-the-air-audio/
this is the station I listen to during the day and was listening to that day
Segment two has a caller on air when the second plane hit

Not criticizing just saying you need to include CT in there. Many residents in southern CT work in NYC.

NP didnt think about CT.
But I think you agree with my overall point

I asked this in a bar once "What state did 9/11 happen in?" and nobody could answer it.
I seriously hate florida.

:salute To the fallen, to the brave, to the proud and the caring. I was 5 years old with the Flu for this first time, I was in my mothers arms. Until a friend came over next door to tell us what's happening. I was to sick to notice what was on the TV but I remember a plane and a lot of flames. Shortly after my dad came home saying, "Did you see what happened".
I'm mourning deeply very very deeply right now. Not for those who died, but for the people who hate them. I just had to deal with something I'm not gonna get into but I need some help. Anyway I would really appreciate some kind words of advice to say to these "people". For saying words that I know every person on this forum would go right back at them for even thinking of such a thing. Anybody got anything for me because I don't.

The option is there to keep your TVs turned off and not view any threads in memory of 9/11. It's important to remember.
You're right - it is no pearl harbor. 2,400 Servicemen died there (very tragic). Around 250 Texans died at the Alamo. That's about how many people got killed on the actual hijacked aircraft alone during the 9/11 attacks. A total of around 3,000 innocents died that day (More than the Alamo and Pearl Harbor combined).

Amen Dred........not saying that it doesnt hurt everyone in the country, its a deep wound for sure.....but how you worded it, and being from Pennsylvania, and working in a Region where all my co workers are all from NY (LI and Manhattan) and NJ... it is exactly how i feel...right or wrong
Thank you :salute
