US Supreme Court will strike this down.

I can understand making people wear seat belts or drive a certain speedlimit, but limiting the amount of a legal item is really overstepping bounds.

when i go out to eat, when asked what i'd like to drink, i generally answer with "a swimming pool full of coke please".....it gets strange looks, then they either bring me a very large glass of coke, along with a pitcher of it.....or they are "johnny on the spot" with refills.....

obesity in some cases truly cannot be helped....it can be heriditary. in other cases, soda, fattening foods......irrelevant, due to sheer laziness.

we all know skinny people that eat all day never exercise and never gain weight so i can agree with this. My excuse is poor eating habit and lazyness. Its hard to run that pie I just ate off at 11 pm.

I go to the gym every couple of days to lift weights but I dont do a lot of cardio work. Lacrosse and before that soccer have helped but even when I wasnt playing I dont gain more then a pound or two.

Aside from the drink ban and all, I gotta say I don't think that sugar's good for you but its hard to resist.  About 6 months ago I stopped eating stuff with sugar as much as I could and also cut out pasta and bread.  This from a man who never met a donut he didn't like.  It actually wasn't that hard except that I have noticed that if I have a spoonfull of icecream one night the next day I'm craving something sweet.  I think its because your brain runs on sugar and it likes it.  The reason I stopped eating fast carbs was cause I noticed things like how a bowl of pasta just seemed to make room for more and how I would get hungry or lightheaded like my blood sugar was all over the place now I feel a lot better.  The first month I lost ten pounds, (im 6-0 175ish,) but that might be just muscle disappearing with age.  Don't take this as preaching just sharing my experience.  Still drinking beer but it has less effect than before.

A law that isn't going to affect anyone save the handful of people who already have a ruined day when they drop their ice cream cone... Isn't going to make me view the government as "tyrannical". It's a soda bottle..you can live with just a little bit less...

It is, in fact, a form of tyranny. Look up term "soft tyranny" by Alexis de Tocqueville. What are the limits to a government that can ban drink sizes? Do you really think the Founding Fathers envisioned a country where even a city government could do something like that? I wonder if Mayor Bloomberg has ever heard of the word "liberty", and whether that came into his mind when he proposed this law. If people want to get to buy large sodas and potentially get fat, so be it. It is the responsibility of the individual to look after himself and his family in a civil society; it is not the government's role to act as the all-powerful legislater and arbiter to make decisions on behalf of individuals.

This is the same sort of tyranny that the Federal government wields when it unleashes the EPA on regulating the type of lightbulbs and dish washers we can have. And don't even get me started on their vehicle fuel efficiency standards.

They're still not being "limited" if they're trying to get fat. Go buy all your soda needs from a supermarket if you want. Bloomberg is a pompous moron but this "law" is not that big of a deal. There's still a million other ways to turn yourself into a walking dumpling if you want.

:bhead Did you not read anything I posted? It does not matter if the ban applies only to restaurants and stores and the like. The same principles apply. A government that can ban drink sizes in any manner is a government rooted in tyranny, whether you, sir, can recognize it nor not.

It is sort of. I wrote the title to relate to "large Capacity Magazines". I feel the Soda Law is similar and evident of Tyrants efforts to control the population through "Social Experimentation". Incrementalism is working as they pick away at liberties little by little.
Bloomberg changed the laws to suit himself. He wouldn't be Mayor if he didn't change the Law to allow a 3rd term in NYC.

"The law is OK because it doesn't effect me". Those that think this will change thier tune when it comes to something they like.
I don't drink soda myself or smoke Cigs but would never try to ban them for others.

ya I saw the title and thought it was a joke about magazines....then to see they really did pass a law on soda :O

just one more step in total control.....

I can see it now, when they outlaw cash money (which they will)....they are gonna make it seem like its the perfect solution to combating crime........and 95% of the people will completely follow along no problem.

that is my personal cut off date....if I am alive when they ether outlaw green money or make it obsolete(you will have to have some kind of Credit/debit card)....I am done with society......

Seriously even when I wrestled in High school I had trouble dropping weight I went 5 days with minimal calorie intake   I would weigh 182 after practice(still in my sweat soaked clothes) next morning I was 192(nekkid), after 5 days I just said screw it  and went back to wrestling the fat boys in heavy weight giving up like 60-70 lbs to do so.. I have absolutely ballooned in the past 12 years since I dont DOD anything and my job is no longer physically demanding.

Methinks you may want to look a little closre before you say that. Unless you don't like caffeine. Or alcohol. I thnk cigs may be right out too, not sure on that one. And women can't hold positions of power in the church, etc.

And for those dwelling on our founding fathers having all the answers, they did not allow women to vote but did allow for slavery. Fortunately for everyone else, they (unlike so many others) recognized their fallibilty and made it possible to change those initial mistakes and many others over time.

Soda ban is ignorant and meaningless but an overreaching step nonetheless. The intent is to get everyone thinking about health care and the costs involved or we can just slot out the obese from coverage since it is their own fault anywayy, in all cases. Right.

As to the fries? Heathens, the lot of you. Malt vinegar or don't bring 'em.

Bob

Btw, a law requiring bike helmets? We don't even require motorcycle helmets in NH.

The idea being to get your own plot of land, where your core philosophies can be a reality.

for some reason they decided to repeal motorcycle helmet laws here yet hold strong on the seat belt law.  the helmet law came before the seatbelt law. maybe they figure people on motorcycles choose to risk life by choice from the get go. :headscratch:

edit: funny thing about utah. u can drink there now. it used to be private clubs only. But heres the kicker, beer is under 4.2% alcohol. it looks the same, tastes the same, costs the same, but it does not get you smashed as you would expect.  its a little strange there, and they dont like to hear about their water beer :) but ill go back, with my own beer.  :devil (skiing is awesome!)
