Title: What to use to get rid of trojan horse patched_c.lyu
Post by: Black Jack on September 13, 2012, 10:34:55 PM
Just got this on my wife's laptop. Tried everything I had for virus checker/remover. Nothing works. Anybody had a virus remover that I won't need to wait an hour after scanning to be asked to send money and register to be able to fix what they found  :)

Tks

That's not a virus checker but a malware. Your computer may not be infected with anything else except that fake antivirus...

Try www.eset.com/onlinescan

Wow, thanks a lot. I will try those. One of them for sure will remove it. AVG says it's in my windows/system32/services folder. I'll give it a try tonight and see   :aok

Google your problem. On the net you will find ways to remove the threat, but you will need to remove some items from the registry, and remove some folders. If you run MS restore point you will need to clean thoose files out also.

If you make mistakes in the registry, bad things can happen to your operating system as your OS may not work.

I did some reading the virus you have. The virus (malware) can be damaging and also possibly steal information. That virus also redirects. It is possible the virus or malware could redirect you to a site with more malware.

If it was me I would just do a reformat and new install of the OS.

NOte : since it seems you have AVG, maybe you could goto the AVG forums and get help.

go to major geeks and read the "do/try this first" sticky in the malware removal section.  It will get rid of anything.
