You're right.  It should have a Gnome rotary engine.

I say Boss Hoss's idea of using a 502 engine in a bike is equally obnoxious but much wiser.

I wonder how he handprops it in the mornings?...

Way cool, I've seen it mounted 90-degrees on bikes, but it never made sence to me.  This way looks better and more natural, however I'm sure this picture angle is hiding the massive converter/gear box this thing must have under the seat.  Having it face the wind also gives the it a beefier profile, not very ideal for a bike, probabley would be a PITA to maneuver through traffic (but maybe no worse than the largest crusiers) and an even bigger nightmare if god forbid you side-swipe into someone with a jug or two.

Two cylinders off a Merlin, a supercharger and a trimatic auto

That implies (and the picture seems to back it up) that he did the (re)work necessary to correctly time and sync the (goshdang pitFa) Merlin Fingers in that settup if it is truely an authentic Merlin RR setup....  for just a two-cylinder settup...  the man/men who built that bike are either dedicated masochists from a town without enough women and/or bars, or someone just looking to do it the hard way (or were never told that there are better/easier engines to convert/adapt into a 2-cylinder environment).

My hat's off to them, but soooo many things that can/could break and go very wrong so fast.

HorseHockey.

I think that thing is awesome.... I don't care for big 'Merican cruisers myself (I'm a BMW airhead nut) but I'd ride the hell out of that thing.

Here's a bit of background, just a crazy Aussie engineer, pretty crafty too.
