Title: Drunken Sailor? Or Skipper Can't Make Up His Mind?

When fleets maneuver, they zig zag and seem to take forever to settle onto a course that has been set.  I can see that in order for the support ships to keep their formation positions this might occur, but IS there a more sane way to chart a new course or make the sways in and out less drastic?
