Please can we fix the 17 pdr so we can look around like the 88's.
-
I'd like to have the ability to look up and over the shield much like the real gunners did in WWII. I do not think they should have any more than the 2.5X ability to zoom in (out of the gun sight) like the tank commanders do.
As it is, the view is that of the gunner looking through the aiming reticule and that is it.
-
:salute so why cant you look around the 17 pounder like the 88s dont make sense.
-
:aok

while at it make field/ship guns count towards vehicle score and make it when the ship/position gets sunk it is counted as a death.
and when you kill these positions it is counted asa vehicle kill.

That is OK if it would count as a death (and I'm a field gun dweeb) but hardly equates with killing a plane (even a C-47). Acks are easy to take out.
Somebody rocketing a bunch of acks is hardly worth even 1 air to air kill. The number of eunuchs de-acking, just so they can vulch without danger would only multiply.
Imagine some one pass 190 landing two kills that were ack guns - totally lame.
Besides, you get no score benefit from kills in the field gun.
p.s. Aside from five inchers and miracle 88 shots, you can avoid dying to ack guns altogether: simply by not cherry picking over the field. :)

+1 Even if i dont use it much.

And in HT's world they were unable to move their heads away.

that would be nice actually, tired of people sitting in field guns getting far easy kills without doing any work.
This makes perfect sense, and it would eliminate those who sit in field guns all day long without actually getting killed.
-
I'd like to see a spawnable 88mm, and maybe use the SdKfz 251 to tow it.
Doesn't seem like it would be unbalancing to the game, and might not even be perk worthy.
Would provide a bit of longer-ranged AA defense for attackers (always one of the biggest problems), and it would be a nice step towards making field guns count as kills.
-
make manned guns count as kills. there is no valid argument against it when you have somthing like the jeep that counts as a GV kill.
and go the full mile make the m3 and sdk able to tow a field gun like a drone.
the sdk/m3 can then park a specified distance away before the field gun dies from range like a drone.
you get 3 kills for wiping out a formation of bombers manned by one guy. there should be no issue with getting two kills for wiping out an sdk/m3/truck and field gun and getting two kills.
and if you really want to have some fun make the field gun have no icon since it is unmovable when not connected to the towing vehicle and watch how popular it becomes.
I should charge for these brilliant ideas.
-
I'd like to see ack perks and upgrades. 37mm becomes 2 40mm then quad and 88 becomes dual 88 then 105mm or those bigger germ ack guns. Adding k/d to mix as well. For ships the idea is "sunk"lol

wouldn't stop me at all.

Count manned ack gun kills as kills? Do you know how easy it is to kill a soft gun? A single 0.303 shell has to land somewhere in the same county as the gun and it dies. People would rack up 10 kill sorties in a blink of an eye. Should that be counted the same as shooting down 10 planes in a sortie?

Maybe like a 300yd icon standard, or 600yd with a storch?
I mean a FlaK 36 inside a barn would be ridiculously hard to find, and he would also be able to hit tanks.

No, but it is high time that those in the AA guns get some type of reward for their kills, (as previously suggested on multiple topics here.) The AA guns would have their own "category" like Vehicles, Fighters, Bombers and Attack; then add a new line of offensive or defensive ground weapons that would add more content to the game. Like the towable 88mm (+1 on that by the way). The new weapons added for this category would of course be realistic, some things would be perked others not.
I think overall it would be a benefit to the game.

You must be awesome in a field gun!!!! :aok I didn't know there were ANY easy kills in a field gun, guess I didn't realize I was that bad!!!!!!!!!! :headscratch:

I took the time to read the OP's post and not spend time derailing the thread and I will give it a +1.

Yea ,how did this thread get so far off topic? Not that I disagree with having towed guns.I have a WW2 online account also and there are some things they have, like towed guns, that I dont see why Aces high couldnt incorperate into this game.
But I see no reason why you cant look around from the 17 pdr.I mean the gun traverses so slow being able to look around and know which way to swing the gun would make a big diff on how quickly you could bring the gun to bear on target.
I wish the 88 and 17 had 2 positions.A gunner and a spotter.

+1 on being able to look around in 17 pounder but not while in zoom.

thats how it worked before..
you had to hit z to look thru the sight

Wait until someone drives that towable 88 up to an enemy field and starts fishing for free/easy kills as the enemy planes lift off. Iv'e actually driven a T-34-85 with a few buddies to an enemy base 2 sectors away from the home spawn.

The way it was before, I could move head position outside of the sight's field of view and use f8 to align a part of the gun to be my new sight which allowed me to make multiple hits at the very end of the gun's range.
This is why it was changed.

we can still do that with the other field guns.. hmm..

there's no bug with the 17 lbs. that's how it was designed so you have to move it around to spot.

I hate to say it, but that would NOT stop me from sitting in a manned gun all day if I felt like it. :lol You could have it count as 1000 deaths, I would still sit in a manned gun. :)
As for the OP, I agree. Should be able to look around while in the 17 pdr like you can with all other guns. Jump into a 37mm or even the twin 5" guns on a cv. You can look around while in those, though I would have to question the ability to look around while in a 5" turret. The "open" 5" guns on the side of the CV, I understand being able to look around, but the "covered" turrets as well as those on the DD's? Same goes for the 8" guns, though you don't really look around while in those, still question it.

I wondered why you can't look left right up and rear in the 17 ponder at a V-Base like we can in the 37mm or 88MM that makes no sense at all. Maybe the gunner has been in a car accident and he has on a big neck brace for insurance purposes and can't move his head lol. Plus why is there no anti-tank sight option for the 88mm as in real life? That sight was standard T.O & E (Table of Organization & Equipment) for the German 88.

been requested several times w/o response....? :bhead

Have you tried using the 88 mm for anti tank work using the AP round? It's dispersion is truly terrible so a sight would be well nigh useless. And if you ever do hit the target it often does little damage- I presume the 88 mm AP round from the ack gun is nothing like the 88 mm AP from the Tiger?

it shoud have the same effect just a little bit lowered muzzle velocity I would think same weight and all I've takin out about 3 tanks with the 88 so far one being a tiger2 or panther I couldn't tell and the others being M4 75s with the rockets on top
-
I've had it hit T34s at close (<1K) range with no damage. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

Check your rice for arsenic levels you are not making any sense!
Instead. . . Ship guns (cruiser) should be tied to the person that has the fleet. He could then choose people from the room roster to assign to gun positions or keep the guns himself and concentrate fire on a single target like an opposing fleet or designate separate targets for each gun.
Outside of that guns act as spoilers and should never be tied to vehicle scores because they are nothing more than the ultimate "tiger on concrete" which any logical person should have no problem with. :D
-
The 88mm Flak 36 is the same gun as the Tiger I mounts. Same caliber length (L/56), tiger I just has a muzzle break.
AP rounds should be the same.
Something I think is really neat about the 88's AA round is that if you fuze it correctly, you can get an airburst. Would be great for taking out troops, even if you can't see the map room bunker over the bushes, you might be able to get an air burst over top of the map room.

I've killed a few tanks with the 17lb'er AP. Once you get past the Lobbing instead of aiming, & zoom out far enough...didn't notice any deficiency for killing ability. :salute
