Title: HOSTILE SHORES - Frame 1 in only 3 hours :)
Post by: fd ski on April 07, 2001, 11:15:00 AM
At 4 pm EDT ( East Coast Time ) the frame one of Hostile Shores scnearion will begin.
Those of you who want to particiated but did not sign up, you need to be in the SEA arena at 3:30 PM EDT and go to KNIGHT country.

banana and other CMs will be handling walk ons at that time.

At 3:45 pm All walkons will be assignment to the fligths that are short of registred pilots. At that time everyone who enters the arena becomes the walkon, whether they registered or not.

So, be there early, and get ready for hostile welcome  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I've promised the wife I'd mow the grass first.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I always do big favors first before a scenario, that ensures no disturbances.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

cya all there.

Only making this post to get a time stamp to see how long the 3 hour timer started.  What with me being in CET and all.

yeah, time check.
Would be nice to have a kind of game-clock in HTC's site to show local time in Texas...

4:00pm EDT/EST/ET???

Now I'm confused, and I *live* on the East Coast!

I'll show up at 4:00pm Eastern time and pray that it's not an hour earlier!

Is there just a "chance" that the CM's could have the Flight leads make sure this kind of information is released BEFORE the day of the event.  Between having trouble connecting then having to download the map AGAIN...I was late, got bumped, then got the "so sorry were full" routine in the training arena.  What a waste.

Fear not, SwampRat, I was in, waited and waited and waited, got into the air and was dead in 10 minutes.

What a waste of a day.

I don't even know where to begin.  Got in at 230 to check in, was told 1/2 an hour.  Waited.  3 came and went.  then 330.  Then 4.  Finally, we got instructions and some clues at 430 and I guess we rolled about then.

Don't wanna slam a fellow squaddie but oh well, for some reason, I was assigned a gunner. Then BeTown opted to take him.  First irking.  Then, as we all appear on runway, some fools drop bombs on it. (We were ju88s).  As we got into the air, following the lead shoulda been Blue Angels try outs.  All this hassle to have RW working and no one talks on it.  So, its "try to follow the lead".  We are all over the place, and finally get the idea we are hunting for a CV.  While trying to catch up to lead (BeTown), I hear richochets.  F4 on me, and before I can put a crosshair on him, Im dead.  If Id had my assigned gunner, I might still be up there.

Oh sure, I can go back in as a gunner or something, but the heck with that.  I havent seen this many warps since a Trek Convention and the utter lack of communication and leadership has me beyond ticked off.  Its a gorgeous day outside and I wasted it in here.  If it had been a fun time, Id feel less guilty sitting inside.

Ah well, glad to hear I wasnt the only one to have difficulties in there.  I did get disco'd when i went from hangar to runway, but got lucky and made it back in.

Sorry to sound negative to those that worked hard on this event.  I'm sure you tried but to the low-folks on the totum pole, it was a lot to be desired.

Actually Swamprat, that information was conveyed about 2 weeks ago in one of the first posts for the scenario.

I didn't last long, but had fun and thought it was very smoothly run.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Well, point is, considering the amout of time that has gone into this, I got 2 maybe 3 emails concerning the frame.  Had my flight leader helped me get BACK into the Axis message boards (dunno what happened to my registration) maybe I'd have been better informed.  What I got when I asked for help was...zilch.
Dunno, maybe it's me but I got a serious feeling that my being fairly new here made me an ace number one nobody, so my abscence was no big deal.  That along with the fact that I got indications that my flight lead wasn't even sure who I was in the emails where I was tryin to get into the Axis boards.
After a couple no-go's getting logged on, then having to download the map (AGAIN!!..what was that all about??)..when I do finally get in, I'm told my flight is full and they are working a slot for me...then another starts telling me to go to training, "hold on"-"go training"-"go to sturm"-"do this"-"do that" yadda yadday  (1 too many chiefs) I finally decide to make a decision and go to training just in time to get ignored.
Disgusting to say the least, considering the leadership, I've withdrawn my "slot" with 6/JG5, better chance of getting some flight time as a walkon.

Swamprat,

You showed up 15 minutes late.  The CM told all pilots who are LATE to log into the training arena.  I told you to do this.  Preon with a million other things to do as a FL was trying to place you into a slot, so we could get you in before the walkons.  That free slot was filled as soon as our request was sent to sturm.

We have a lot more things to do then to hold people's hands that are late.  We have 3 channels going on and a voice channel to get everything organized.  If you were there 15 minutes earlier, you would have had a slot period.  I have all the emails you received and in there is stated the times.  I didn't get into the BBS either, but with a scenerio that has little intel it isn't that important.  The most important thing is be there on time, and you were not close.  I'm sorry you had connection problems, I'm sorry you had to download the map again, and I'm sorry you didn't get to fly.

Don't blame us, understand?  We have a job to do, and your only job is to show up on time.

I did not recieve any email from you Drex.  Only those 2 or 3 from Preon.  Couldn't access the message board either.  Didn't get squat for help to fix it..either.  Preon was gracious enough offer my slot again next frame...Good on Preon <S>, better attitude than yours for sure.

So, no problem Drex.  You definately will not have to hold my hand, you will not have to be organized on my behalf, or actually have to pretend to give a toejam.  K?  As stated before, I am now a walkon anyway.

Cya

Ok.  As a walkon make sure you are there 15 minutes early.

I tried to walkon today. By some miracle I had some time free on a Saturday afternoon and I thought I might support one frame of this event.

I logged in 15 min prior to start (as walkons were supposed to) and was sent to Knights. Channel 174, and I am cooking. Then there is the announcement that some registered pilots could not get in, so all walkons would have to leave. I confirmed this message and left. I then went to the MA to fly.

Know what? I can't complain one bit. Those CM's were doing the best they could. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE that has ever run an event (and I have) knows that things can go bad in a real hurry. And, like it or not, those CM's can't do a thing about things like net status.

It is a handful to coordinate comms, balance sides, pass out info, synchronize clocks, the whole thing that must happen at the same time. On top of everything else this event was intended to recreate a bit of the "fog of war" that really happened in war. Information for the event was supposed to be limited. You were also assigned where you were told to go, I take it, rather than where you might like to be. That too was part of the plan- you are in a military organization that lets you know where they want you.

I know these guys. I worked with them. I know the information that was supposed to be available to you was available. If you didn't somehow get yours it isn't because someone said something like "oh, it's just xxxxxx, he doesn't matter, don't worry about him" as you seem to insinuate. I suspect you had other problems or didn't do something on your end- that's my guess anyway.

Even though I didn't get to fly I thank all you CM's that go through this every event. I wish I could still help out with these things, despite the complaints you hear it is rewarding. You do great stuff and hopefully I will manage a walkon in coming frames. S!

Swamprat - did you register as a single pilot or a member of a squad ? Please e-mail me at fd-ski@raf303.org and we will get this straightened out.

Don't feel bad SwampRat!  Out of a 20+ aircraft formation, not a single guy gave me a Check Six call to warn me of the impeding death.  Clearly, this was a well planned assassination attempt    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
