Title: PBY Catelina flying boat
Post by: flyboyxtyson on October 02, 2012, 11:36:59 PM
The PBY is a quintesencial aircraft of ww2. It was flow extensivly by many nations some are still used in private buisnesses. A PBY would be grat to fly and realy different from everyithing else. Yes it would be dificult but if it worked it would be incredible.

Using big words doesn't make you sound smart if you don't spell them right.

And Denied, since it serves no purpose in Aces high.

I think he meant a pb&j.  i like mine with toasted bread as great energy enhancer for those nights when you need to rush to the liquor store because it is 1:45 am.

Short Sunderland
Bit faster, with far better defensive fire. bomb load was a little lower. very hard to kill birds by all accounts.

Kawanishi H8K
Super quick compaired to the Cat, and packing 5 x 20mm Type 99 cannons backed up by another 5 x 7.7mm Type 97 machine guns. Bomb load is higher at 4,400lbs.

Both these would have a ok chance to work in the MA... the increased defensive fire power/speed would help them see use.

The PBY is slow and underarmed. The only reason most players here ask for it, is because of how famous it is in the US.

I think it's a cool plane.  It really has no merit to get into Aces High but all American airplane enthusiasts have imagined how cool it would be have one.

Sorta like the EM-50 assault vehicle.

+1 only if you can carry troops and base supps and spawn near any
friendly cv group. :bolt:

I'm learning.

Some birds are key for scenarioos, which are awesome. The PBY is one. In-game it is toast (with peanut butter and jelly) though in a scenario it could be a real enhancement. I would guess strictly early-war, Pacific theater. Maybe first launch pits PBY screen versus a BARCAP to find the CV. Once found second launch is of divebombers, etc to sink it.

I'd add somewhere on the list, a bit down though.

It would not be capable of those tasks in the context of AH.

Are the rest of the players supposed to sit there waiting for an hour or more while the slow PBYs try to locate the enemy or do the fighter and bomber players get a later start time?

This sounds to me like one of those things that looks fun initially but falls flat in practice.  There are reasons the C-47 is never used in scenarios and those reasons apply to the PBY as well (Ju52 too, of course).

as i said no one thing adds anything, it all together that they make it fun. and pby would be a great US torp plane, able to sink a CV alone without a formation. its speed may be slow but that is balanced by its long range torps and killing power
