People stood in lines for a week to get this phone.
First issue is Maps. Very poor release.
Second issue is it has data usage issues.
Now a third issue...... purple pictures.
Glad I don't use apple products.
Any of you folks experienced these problems?

Droid.
-
I hate droid - I have one and it has software instability issues.
I'll look into the I5.
But I hear the S3 is awesome. Anybody have the S3?
-
I have the iPhone 4s. The 5 just didn't have enough new features for me to want to go out and get it. Will probably wait until the next model comes out.
However, since downloading iOS 6, I have an issue where I can't hear any audio of embedded videos online. Anyone have the same problem?
-
the s3 is a droid phone...might have software issues just like the rest of them.
-
Wait, there are still Droids that haven't been banned from sale? (yet) :t
I've had an iPhone 4 for a year and have really enjoyed it. I was planning to get the 5 but I think instead I'll get one of the Windows 8 phones. Not because I have a problem with the iPhone, just so I can have a test device to start developing for that platform too.
I don't get personal about hardware. I go where the money is at. Right now, for indie mobile development, the money is IOS. I'm hopping Windows 8 will prove lucrative too. I'd do Android too, but its so fragmented, and the type of people who buy Android tend to be so....frugal, the cost/benefit to spend development time just isn't there.
I suspect Windows 8 will take a deep bite out of Android's tablet market share over the next year. And I suspect they will take a suprising bite out of Android's phone market as well over the next year. Most of the Android handset makers are already paying MS various royalties on every device. With the constant threat of lawsuits it will eventually become appearent that the "free" mobile OS isn't so free and it would be easier to just license Windows 8. I'm sure MS will offer them a deal that is quite tempting. License Windows 8 and we'll just through in all those other licensing costs in the price.
Most of them don't care about Android. They just want a mobile OS and Apple will never license IOS so Android has been the only real alternative. Windows 8 will drastically disrupt that balance. It will provide them a mobile OS without the legal headaches/costs. I think in 2 years Android will be about where Linux is today. Its around, not not a dominant player.
Mmmm sorry for the rambling. Too much coffee today. ;)

I just got the Droid Razer M, it's amazing... $99 phone that puts the iPhone 5 to shame.

I have the Droid Razr and its awesome.

It is Android but not a droid. :)

My Droid's wallpaper I've had for the past several months... :D

Seems like there's an article on CNN about the top 5 gripes people have with the I5 iphone. The gripes that I recall were:
The aluminum case feels too light. Almost toy-like. My Droid2 has some weight to it, which I personally kinda like. Plus I like having a QWERTY keyboard that slides out if I choose to.
Paint chipping withing a few days (or hours) after purchase.
Light leaking from the backlight through the power button and somewhere else on the case
The new power cable / port is now smaller and the I5 is no longer compatable with all other apple charge cables. I thought that was a nice feature that you could use any iphone / ipad / ipod charge cable or audio dock.... You can buy an adapter for about $29 $39 if you want a cable with it. The adapter doesn't support video or the "iPod out" function for transmitting some data from the devices.
Can't think of the 5th one. Spikes' avatar. Bouncy bouncy bouncy
Oh yeah, people are seeing weird bubbles on part of their touch screen. Also touch screen flickering.
The maps thing I'm sure will be ironed out as it's a sofware issue. Until then owners will just have to deal with large chunks of the U.S. missing or in the wrong location. Google has no plans on designing a map for apple.
Link to the article http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/26/tech/mobile/iphone-5-complaints/index.html
Also so a newer article that states that the I5 has a software bug that puts a huge drain on cellular data even when the phone is connected to a WI-FI network. May only be limited to Verizon customers. But it's lead to some people incurring huge overages in their data plans.

The fact that Apple decided to change the connector on the iPhone 5 but not to microUSB is extremely disgusting.

Droid.

Droid and will never own another iPhone. If I could have gotten away with shooting it and filming it being torn to pieces with .308 I would have. However I needed the money from the sale of the phone and I got it. The dude offered me $300 last fall for my 8GB iPhone4 with a small scratch on the back. I jumped at it.

Only thing droid lacks that I haven't discovered a work around for yet is (the monopolistic) iTunes.

not for me, had an iPhone 4 for a year or 2, works fine. if it breaks or I need something else from a phone in a coupla years I'll look around and see whats good then.
chatting to friend yesterday whos using a motorola phone, had it for a coupla years too. its smaller, alot lighter and looks like its pretty well weatherproofed and shock resistant with a rubbery plastic casing (hes a tree surgeon working in british winters and has drooped it from the top of trees so it must be good :D). the OS is nowhere as slick to use as IOS and frankly its watermelon because it bricked within a year of use requiring a reinstall of firmware and OS - no phone for a few days for a guy who runs a business ...
I guess in an ideal world I'd have an IOS phone made by ... Siemens. Had a bunch of Motorola flip phones going back to the early 90s analogue ones, they were all 1000% better than the crap Nokia and everyone else were pedalling. A couple of Siemens and they were really good too - the ME45 was proper tough (only phone here for years to have an IP rating so still worth a few £££ for regulated industrial/military stuff) and mine still works. My (non-weatherproofed) cheapo Siemens phone sat in the Thames in a cold March for about 30mins while switched on. had a balnk screen when I recovered it, but removed the battery, put it on a pub's radiator for an hour or so to dry it out, put the battery back in and made a call. gotta love german engineering :aok

iTunes sucks to begin with.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S3, my friend has the iPhone 5. His broke already and he's only had it for 3 weeks. Iv'e had my S3 for about 1-2 months and nothing has happened. Not to mention I have far more features and a much better OS than the iPhone.

Something being broken depends on user, your friend is probably very irresponsible with his possessions

I have an HTC Desire that has done well by me.
Back when I was buying it..... 1 day before actual release, there were 2 folks in there looking for iPhones. Both messed with the iPhone for a bit then both decided on other phones.

How many times are people going to get burned buying the newest apple product. This happens every time a new iphone comes out it shouldn't be a surprise.

Seems apple doesn't even want you to buy aftermarket chargers. They definitely do not use the KISS method of business.
I like being able to charge my phone all over the place and not have to carry a specific cable.

Instead of making a good quality product they have chosen to focus on making money on anything you try to do with it.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to buy a chinese ripoff charger of ebay in a few months for $2, which may or may not fry your iPhone.
what happens when you plug your HTC into someone elses charger and it gets fried? :headscratch:
-
I am interested in how Apple handles themselfs within the next couple of years, without Jobs, obviously. Jobs' main focus was making a good product. He knew if he did that, the business would prosper. I wonder if the top Apple executives share the same philosophy.
FWIW - I have a Galaxy S and it does everything I need it to. The best part is - I got it for free. I do want an iPad primarily for the aviation-related apps and do intend on purchasing one. The Nexus 7 has gotten some pretty good reviews from pilots, though (and it's much cheaper)!
-
Wife has a Galaxy S and loves it, i cant stand it.....never a decent signal......although i do use it occaisonally for the NavSink App...works ok.
My phone is a Samsung flip phone :D

In the writeup it says there is a chip on the power side in the cable. Highly unusual. They said itr will make it much harder to copy.
The thing is.... why is it so important to apple to keep folks from charging their phones?

I believe Game Stop has used ones for sale. They buy them I know.

micro USB is a standard you know...if the plug fits the electric current is right. Amusing to see everyone agreed on a standard, except apple, that puts the same electricity in a different shaped plug, just so you have to buy their chargers, feel different and unique.

Any USB charger, with the mini USB plug, seems to works fine with the Samsung Galaxy S3. My Wife uses one charger/power supply for her phone, Garmin GPS unit, and Kindle. The USB bus spec, for power, does have a fixed power handling capacity and voltage level.

It's a great phone, I'm very clumsy with it and it gets thrown around a lot, much of the paint has been stripped off the corners from dropping it on concrete and such, and nothing has ever happened functionally until I jammed a hood shock into it with... significant force and the screen spiderwebbed. Phone still works fine.
I think pretty much everyone has shattered an iPhone at some point or another, even with a case on. I have no clue why they made the back glass, that's just ridiculous.

I have one...it's great for what I bought it for...on the go at college where I don't really need to carry around a laptop. It's the 3rd gen, 32gb. 16gb was just too small for me with only 12gb usable.

I bought 2 4 dollar chargers plus one car charger, two hdmi cables, 1 hdmi for my computer and two extra long cables. All for about 25 bucks. used them on my droidx. and couple other phones with no problems.

If you ever owned an iPhone you'd realize how repulsing droid looks and feels. Everything is smurfy and clumsy. My son just bought a brand new Sony xperia with Droid4 - the user experience just isn't at the same level with an iPhone. Sure it's a cool phone and all, but apple still wins hands down in ease of use.

I have to agree, I'm far from a die hard Apple fan-boi as there are many things I don't like about my Iphone. I started with a Droid, and was gifted the Iphone 4s which I'm currently using. Iphones are just much more stream-lined than Droids in my opinion.

ripley I find it funny that you are happy with a iphone where they tell you what you need or want and yet you promote tweaking windows to get rid of stuff you dont need or actually get rid of windows altogether and use something else. try changing the os in your iphone.

I would not use windows in a phone. Ever. I don't need to change the OS in my phone since it currently has the best mobile OS known to man. It requires no tweaking at all to be smooth and usable. Tell me, why would I want to tweak something that works absolutely flawlessly as it is? I'm so happy with the current release that I refused the iOS6 update even.

I had a Droid X.. upgraded to Droid 4. It's running Droid OS 4.0.4.. which is darn slick.
The only drawback I have with the droid is the insanely low battery life ( Motorola trademark ).
Neither one held a charge for a full day.. which, I suspect, is due to the living environment I have, as I rarely get 4 bars of coverage where I spend the majority of my time. I have determined that is the primary reason the battery life is so short.. the stupid thing is constantly scanning for a better signal, instead of just living with 1 or 2 bars of strength. When my Droid X was deactivated, the battery now lasts over a week.. and it behaves just like an android tablet. Nice toy for experimenting.
The only exposure I have to the iPhone is through the iTouch machines, and, as painful as it may be to folks, the iOS is much slicker than Droid OS. There's a look, feel, interface... not sure what to call it, but the iTouch is simply fun to play with. I don't care for iTunes and the way it controls your music.. too much feeling that the music industry is watching your every move, but, since all my stuff is legit, it works for me. And, no, I don't buy $.99 MP3s... they sound like crap compared to the CD. I buy the CDs and rip the songs from there. Not as many songs, but they sound much better. ( I filled my 8G iTouch gen 1)
Apple has been proprietary since day 1 of their existence, which is the primary reason I despised them for years. However, as narrow minded as that seems, they did build good stuff, and by not having a bazillion versions of hardware to support, they probably saved themselves a lot of headaches. Seems a couple versions of the iPhones have had issues over the years.. Apple is due for a product bust to get them back on the straight and narrow.
Oh, and I do own a MacBook Pro, also.. picked it up after I fried my overly priced gaming laptop. ( big mistake ) It has a healthy battery life ( 3 - 4 hours ) which was great for traveling to competition cheer meets and processing pictures between events. However, even after all these years, I've found that the MAC OS is just not easily to switch to after Windowing for 25 years. BUT.. for a new user, I believe the Mac OS is far easier to get up and running than MS systems. Again, since Apple keeps a firm grip on hardware options, they probably have less issues than a lot of the winders stuff out there. I probably should bump up the memory and put Win 7 on it.. but I'll need a bigger HD.
Currently running Winders 7 on my main box.. and I think it's the best of the Winders bunch yet. Not seeing a need to want to switch to 8 anytime soon.

why would you refuse ios6 since it's an improvement over what you have? after all it's an official apple os and apple does make the best os known to man according to you.

iOS6 probably includes many improvements but I do not want the Apple maps to my phone untill they're finalized. That's why. The maps is the first real mistake in the iOS.
In android - it doesn't matter if you decide to skip a version or 10, none of them qualify. You sound very agressive in your stance, are you sure it's not your emotions taking over reason here? :)

With mobile devices proprietary is the only right way to go. The phone needs to be locked down as hard as possible and all content doublechecked vigorously. A mobile phone is like a cash machine. You can pay bills with it and using it costs money too. So anything open on a phone is pure insanity. It needs to be locked down hard as a bank.

My phone doesn't do squat except for phone calls and text messages but it only needs charging every 2 weeks, battery life is the main priority for me and the phone only cost $29.00. Smart phones are a bit dumb.

I disagree with this statement completely. I did own an iPhone4 for over a year as well as had a company Blackberry at the same time. The iPhone was great for two things only at the time...social media and personal phone calls. I couldn't get it to function and receive my corporate emails at all even though several other people in the company had the original iPhones working on the corporate email client but they still couldn't get the sent emails to show on their laptop or webmail applications. Also I didn't enjoy having to constantly use iTunes just to back up my phone contacts. Mainly because iTunes is a PITA but it also spilled over into the experience of trying to migrate away from the Blackberry to only using the iPhone4.
SO about a year ago I sold both the Blackberry and the iPhone4 and got a Motorola Atrix2 as the only handset I use. I used the Line2 App to handle all the calls that I used to get on the iPhone4 and it worked decently enough. I recently killed that account to save $10 a month BUT my droid has a smooth UI and works better for me than the iPhone ever did. My corporate email client syncs up and shows sent emails on my laptop and webmail side even though they were sent from the Atrix2; which is completely the opposite of how the iPhone did for me. Which was a root cause for selling that piece of pretty glass. The one complaint I have is the lack of a significant battery life. I really liked not having to charge my Blackberry for 2-3 days or more.
As I said earlier I will not own another Apple product unless it is given to me and then I will most likely try to sell it unless it is needed for work.

LOL I don't know how you managed to not get your e-mails working on the iPhone. The setup process was ridiculously easy and straightforward. iTunes is a pleasure to use especially if you're doing it right and run it on a Mac. You can't even plug an android phone to a USB without pulling down menus and other ridiculous stunts :D Not to mention having to install software or browse through the file system folders to do simple stuff / risk damaging system files.

The CFO at my work had a hell of a time getting emails on his iphone at first. I went into the exchange server and eventually found a setting that the phone didn't like. Works great now.

Its hardly the phone's fault if you couldnt configure your email account on it, I cant imagine a simpler way of setting up accounts.
although I should say pretty much the only thing which annoys me about IOS is that you cant set up different sigs for different accounts in Mail, a rare oversight. grrr.

sounds like the usual flaky support for open standards from MS, their IMAP implementation has always been half-arsed.

My Wife owned one, and so did her son. Then they tried the S3 and immediately got rid of the iPhones. They both claim the S3 is easier to use, has a better looking screen, and takes better pictures (they both need that for work). They also like the fact it makes use of very standard items for accessories and that the battery life is better than the iPhone.
EDIT: Removed comments about the work conditions for the employees at the Foxconn factory. No one cares about that stuff.

iphones are fads.. Anyone who knows anything about phones knows you have so many limitations with an iPhone.. Not to mention, Apple continues to promote features such as a panoramic camera is something new when Android has been doing it for much longer.. iphones have no peer to peer networking capability.. No easy wifi networking capability.. I cannot simply plug an iPhone in with a usb cable and see the files on it like I can on an Android.. iPhones are inherently simple to use and are designed for folks who are not and will never be tech savvy.. Android simply blows them away in every aspect..
Tech heads who do like iPhone always jailbreak them, which really doesn't do much and is nothing like rooting your Android phone.... I'm with Shuff.. I want to be the master of my devices and not dictated to by Apple on how I can use my phone, what apps I can use, etc.
The only Apple product I own as an older G5 Dual processor 2.0 ghz that I use for my recording studio..
I own a Motorola Photon and the wifey has a GS3... I love both phones.. Even the GS2 was awesome and is still a very viable phone..
My photon does all I need it to do and more... We also have an HTC Thunderbolt with no service that I use strictly on wi-fi.. I can make calls through it using Google Voice, even though it has no service..

I'm trying to see the comparison>>> you need to compare apples with apples.... iphone 5 vs sIII ... not some droid phone .... there is the flaw in the reasoning of better and best right there .... the xperia is an awsome phone .... for media .... it has one of the best cameras and the music side of things is great
as for saying about iTunes being flawless yes...it probably is...but you must have yet another apple product for this flawlessness (<--- hahaha is that even a word), to be in effect... droid and other phones win hands down for me due to the fact I can go to any pC and plug in charge, swap/give/change files without having to have support software placed on the pc ie iTunes .....
But that's me...as I said...have had the iPhone granted not the 5 but I found out very quickly I was not an iPhone person and rued the day I gave up my smart phone for it... back to them now with the SIII and couldn't be happier .... one thing though...iPhone screen is way easier to change..and cheaper.....so that's a good thing :D

Steve Jobs is gone, don't worry. Apple will die out sooner or later. Unless someone who can get good original ideas on the board comes along, I don't think Apple will last long.

so you'd like to see 1,000s of US jobs thrown away, as well as the massive tax revenues apple generates, and given away to taiwan/china/japan ... why? :headscratch:

As someone once told me, "Those who innovate, go out of business by bleeding capital. The key to a strong business is to re-package what someone else has invented, streamline it and avoid the overhead."
This is what Apple does and it works, but who knows for how long as eventually innovation will overtake pretty packaging. The real question is who will be on top in the cellular industry in 7-10 years? Android OS, iOS, or the Win OS?
edit: If Google keeps their eyes on the prize, I'll bet their cellular devices will be #1. Perhaps they can even make a cell/PC mate-able OS that is popular, they can sweep the opposition entirely. I know web browsers to OS is some what apples and oranges, but look how Chrome is taking over. According to many sources, Chrome is already #1.

I'm pretty sure google are.... this is why (possibly) they bought motarola... for their registered intellectual property... which in some weird way apple has stolen(for lack of a better word) pieces of this to make said iphones...so the fight continues...it is all a load of big boy bollocks in reality...the money spent trying to take top spot and squash any and all competition when they all use pretty much the same components in an ever fickle market could feed a small third world country.... ...hmmm actually...samsung are pretty much the only ones who use their own parts come to think of it...well the main working bit of the smart anyway

You plug in an android phone it will ask if you want to use as drive/ charge/ or several other things..... no drop down menu to go through.
You're wrong. USB connection won't initiate in many android versions before you pull down menu and tell it to mount to the computer. It DOES ask what to do - but the question is hidden in the pulldown menu. Was quite annoying when using the phone for the first time and expecting it to 'just work' like the iPhone does :)
To add insult to the injury, all that was found in the settings were some USB interface debugging options which did nothing except pork the connection. Ice cream sandwich at least pushed a software to install automatically when plugging in the phone - but only a windows version. Mac version had to be downloaded manually.
-
Yes your vesion has already been tweked. The ios6 is in the tweaking stage now. lol
iOS usually ships fully tweaked and ready. With the exception of 6. And this is how I like it.

on my droidx once i selected the first time too look at files then every single time after that it would remember that as the option. and since the only reason I would think for plugging a phone to a computer would be to look at files or install files then that's the only option I ever needed. my droidx only had froyo and gingerbread and both were the same select it once then it would remember. now I have the rezound with ice cream sandwich and it's the same thing. I dont have to select every time.
and the option wasnt hidden as the first time I got my droid x it took me about 3 seconds to figure out what to do. later I had it rooted and with a different rom to get rid of all the crapware that I didnt need. I think the total time from opening the box to having a custom rom was about 2 hours. and that was only because I didnt even know how to root a phone or install a rom. my rezound was rooted and had a custom rom in 1/2 an hour. funny thing is I was also able to overclock my droid x and it was fast, my friends were impressed with how much faster it was than theirs. I havent really messed up with the rezound yet as I mostly using it as a hot spot for my tablet that also has android.

It took me about 2 hours to accidentally swipe down on the screen to figure out there was a pull down menu hidden. I didn't expect to have to use one in the first place since every phone I've owned so far had connected easily to the USB - not so with Android 2.3. Also the iPhone doesn't have any pullodown menus so I didn't expect to find one. The android interface is just bad compared to the iOS.
If we have to compare the time it took for me to configure ice cream sandwich to work with google accounts etc. to the iphone - the iphone setup was done in 30% of the time with an easy and straightforward setup. I've had to setup Google accounts to two of my kids now and it's a nerve breaking process to try to find a user name that is not cryptic/impossible to remember but gets accepted. It seems letters and numbers are mandatory - but the setup fails to say so anywhere so it's trial and error BS.
My first iPhone setup went like this: Plug the phone in. iTunes pops up automatically. It asks me a couple of questions and voila its done. Amazingly easy. Where Android it was try, fail, try, fail, try, fail, get frustrated and almost throw the damn thing away, try, fail, try, fail.... untill x hours later it sort of worked. Problems started already from plugging in the USB and Google account setup was a total PITA especially that you had to set it up through the annoyingly small phone screen. Just a pleasure to retype your username 100 times using those crappy little virtual keys. NOT!

I never had a phone with a pull down menu either. and to use my google account on ice cream sandwich was just a matter of logging in. same for my yahoo account. and none of my google accounts has numbers. it's only letters.
and the thing I like about android is that you can use 1 account for all your devices. I use my same google account on my tablet and my phone. both are just set up by logging in when you first turn on the phone. all my contacts etc are automatically synchronized across my phone and my tablet. and the apps that I bought on the droidx, I was able to install on my rezound and on my tablet. I didnt have to buy them again. actually i didnt have to look for them either as they were linked to my google account so it was a matter of downloading. when I got my table it took me about 1 minute to set up and log in to my google account. from there the market was automatically available and my youtube account was already logged in.
so in one step I logged in to all 3 accounts. gmail, youtube and android market. contacts automatically downloaded for my gmail. and it still doesnt have numbers for my log in id. and yes it's the same gmail account I have been using since i had another phone that wasnt an android phone.
and guess what when I get another android tablet or phone, it will take me the same amount of time to set up the phone and whichever games or apps I already purchased I using my gmail account.
btw setting up an android phone isnt any longer or more complicated than the iphone, they both take the same amount of time to install and get working. I have had an iphone too. and at work my had hardcore iphone fanbois but when they saw what we could do with the droidx, they all switched to android phones.
and btw if you want to make it easier for your relatives to use their phones, have them install the golauncher. it makes an easy to use phone even easier. and they can download several themes that will change the icons to their liking.

Hmm I have yet to see an android phone that doesn't have top-to-down pulldown menu for USB connectivity, notifications etc. When I tried to set up a google account for both my kids, their user names did not get accepted. My son and daughter have very atypical names (mix of italian/greek/finnish) that 100% garanteed does not exist as a google account. Yet the usernames didn't get accepted and it suggested instead of 'John Doe' to use 'John Doe184094' or something similarly stupid.

Same exact thing works with iOS. You just plug the new device in and give the system permission to sync your account to it.

That is simply not true. Just the fact that setup happens through the phone interface makes it 10x harder. Of course Android setup was easy compared to Nokia for example if you count out the retarded Google user name hassle.
and btw if you want to make it easier for your relatives to use their phones, have them install the golauncher. it makes an easy to use phone even easier. and they can download several themes that will change the icons to their liking.
Haven't heard of this, thanks for the tip. I'm an android noob admittedly.

I just tried it it's available :). just did it to prove that you dont need numbers. now remember gmail has a zillion email adresses so most names are taken by now, that's why they suggest numbers.
and the phone i was refering to that didnt have a pull down menu wasnt an android. the droidx was my first android phone. the rezound was my second one and the tablet that I use is the galaxy tab 2 7.0.
I changed the roms on my droid monthly and every time I needed to basically reauthorize my phone. so I know that all you have to do is log in to set up your phone. but the best reason for rooting your phone is that if you have games there's apps that will save your apps and data so you dont lose your game settings if you change phones. the data can be backed up to your computer, but the phone must be the same, useful for when my droidx broke and got a replacement.
btw another good app that I use is called poynt. wherever you are it will guide you to the nearest restaurants, gas stations, hotels or whichever place you want to go. the best feature about it is that you can look up the gas prices of the nearest gas stations. and it guides you using google maps. also has a movies section which is pretty cool too. it even shows the previews and times of your local movie theaters. that app was really cool when i drove to dallas a couple of years ago. never had to worry about finding a restaurant or a gas station.

I do not lie and I detest you claiming that I do. My kids names are unique and no account was available using them - so there's something seriously messed up in the process. I had to literally try dozens of different variations before it accepted one. There's simply no way any other person in the world has the combination of the same italian first and my finnish last name - especially with both kids.

See that's the problem. I wouldn't want a phone that needs new roms and stuff all the time because it doesn't 'feel right'. I just want something that does the job.

Thanks for the tip - however I doubt it even works here in scandinavia. Google maps does all that already anyway, except movie previews.

Its hardly the phone's fault if you couldnt configure your email account on it, I cant imagine a simpler way of setting up accounts.
although I should say pretty much the only thing which annoys me about IOS is that you cant set up different sigs for different accounts in Mail, a rare oversight. grrr.
In iOS6, goto settings / mail, contacts, calendars / signature and select per account.
Switched from Blackberry to the iPhone 4s last year and have not looked back. Tried 2 different Driod phones prior to that... returned them both within the 30 days since they would both locked up at random times. I figured that no one would ever beat Blackberry and how stable they are / were. Played around with my daughters iPod a few times and made the switch over. Been a year now and still have not had the iPhone lock up on me. Even picked up an iPad for some work related apps I found. Like previously mentioned it all just works. I don't have the time to spend messing with this, that or the other thing on my phone... It just needs to work and do what I'm asking it to. The iPhone does for me.
-
ok thx, I assumed they would add multiple sigs at some point. I'm holding off on upgrading to 6 until the bugs have been squashed.

2,9 million hits on Google tell that some others have pulldown menus for USB and some even don't have it showing at all. If your USB settings are not set to 'always ask' it will never even give a clue that something needs to be done.

You can set it so that it asks you every time it's plugged in, or that you just have to select it from the pull down menu. My phone was initially set to the former but I think I've seen friends whose phones were factory set to the latter.
I really don't see how this is a flaw in the phone.

If you had to fight for hours to discover a hidden menu to be able to do something as simple as plugging the thing to USB you'd think differently. Of course it's no problem now that I know that the menu is there and needs to be used. But when I didn't know about the menu it was infuriating enough to almost return the phone. My problem with the first android phone was also that it had no user manual with it. In all honesty after using the iphone I didn't expect to have to google instructions for it either. With my new iphone I could do everything I imagined I needed to do without any trial/error or any instructions. Everything is thought out and clear. In retrospect I should have used Google when trying out the Android but I actually thought the phone was just broken when it didn't mount (the first android I bought was an ultra-cheap HTC knock off from China.)

You sir are absolutely the biggest troll ever when it comes to anything negative towards Apple products...well maybe not. As for pull down menus, etc... WTF are you talking about? The only thing I have ever had to do was install a "driver" for my phone to be read by my computer and that was tremendously different than what iTunes did to my previous desktop with the installation of that Bloatware product.
As for the settings to get email to work; I never could get it to work and neither could the IT department at my former employer and two of those guys were Apple fans from the early days and that is all they played with trying to keep our Apple users and PC users connected and such. Anyway Ripley I don't expect anything different from you on this subject as you are only going to say....Blah Blah Blah Apple is good and Android is bad and if you can't/don't want to use Apple products then you are not intelligent enough to use it anyway.

As said before some phones come with 'auto accept' preset and others don't. It seems Samsungs are setup differently than HTC / Sony although my daughters Samsung xtreme did also require the use of pulldown menu. Perhaps the difference is that she has an iMac - maybe the phone also behaves differently using it.

I'm not passionate about iPhones at all :) I just counter the saliva laden iHate writings for being what they are. I probably would not pay for an iPhone if I had to pay it myself - but there's no denying it's a great product that's very easy to use. With Android you get more freedom (meaning also freedom to pork the phone) which is great for some people but tweaking phones is not my cup of tea. I want a phone that I can use for (in order of importance) 1) Make phone calls 2) Use as navigational help 3) When no other connectivity is available, tether my computer 4) If everything else fails, browse with mobile browser 5) Games for my kids if they don't have their phones for some reason while traveling.

you are right about the xperia... it does have weird setup to use it on a pc...but once done it should just plug and play so to speak... it p'd me off when i first did it with mine( had one for a short time ) ... I didn't find it too clunky though...you must admit...it does take great pictures... I had a digital slr 12mp...and the xperia kicked it's prettythang when it came to picture/film quality.... and music... I'm one of these types who walks around with 20odd gb min ...(you just never know when a party will happen) and I found the format brilliant .... better than iPhone( I really don't like how iTunes categorizes) and the new samsung (better than iTunes but still a little messed up).

Well, there's sony for you. They're the only tech company with worse intentions for their customers than Apple. My computer has been "rooted" exactly once in the last 15 years, and it was by Sony. And when they got caught, nobody went to jail. Putting sony software in your computer is like having sex with the same hooker who gave your buddy aids... You'll get exactly what you'd expect to get from that transaction.
That said, I have an iphone 4S and like it a lot. I expect to use it until it dies because it already does more than I need it for. I did make the mistake of installing iOS 6 but I expect that to get sorted out in a month or two.

summer is over so no more shorts and skirts, so not me. then again not many would have a 47 year old man that is 5'2 and weights 300 lbs.

Did you really just post about how you wouldn't take a job because they wouldn't let you wear a skirt? Gross.

I won't exactly echo Shuffler's sentiments but almost everything you do with an Android phone is done through the pulldown menu, and in my experience with iPhones they're nearly the same way, as far as having important things in the pulldown menu at the top of the screen. Really the pulldown menu is the most natural, straightforward place to put things like that, and complaining about it is almost as silly as complaining about having to use the menu bar at the top of a Mac for anything. Or the same exact feature on the iPhone for anything.

Yep. I had no idea that kind of menu existed in Android and the phone was a China knock-off so my first intuition told me it just didn't work.

There's no menu that you need to pull down from the top of the phone such as Android 'notifications and USB stuff' menu is. Which is also why I didn't realize to look for one from 2.3 untill I got frustrated enough to just start swiping the screen randomly before throwing it to the wall.

That's quite weird since my family has now had 3 android phones and they all require drop down menu to connect. Sony Xperia refused to mount at all without installing the software.
We have 2 Xperia's, both connect in whatever way you want without installing software. I'm guessing the software 'install' merely added a needed device driver to your OS?

Latest Xperia with android 4.0 pushes a driver/software install automatically for windows. For mac a separate install is required. The software is similar to Nokias control software for example.

It seems you're not aware that you can buy unbranded copies of any major electronic devices from China for a fraction of the price :) Even iPhones.

What Apple does best is excellent marketing to people who are Brand Name-centric and have consumer loyalty. :devil

Nope, I had both Xperia's before ICS was released (both ran GB). I do have the Sony software installed on my laptop but that's the only place I've ever put it.
