I used to.  I enjoyed the change of scenery, until the urge to kill a pixel pilot kicks in.
I've lost my cd, but Newegg has FSX Deluxe pretty cheap.
Maybe I'll catch you on there.  Names Coogan there.

I still fly fsx on a regular basis. Most times I am on Vatsim as SIM26.

Man I used to love FSX, until I too got the festering desire to shoot down a live opponent. I've since given away my cd. In fact, last time I tried to find a flight the online servers were completely void of any excitement. I couldn't even find anyone in the lobby to chat with.

I remember landing my sea plane (can't think of the name) in the water.  Did a flyby just passed the lake at about 500', then did an immalmen full flaps upon landing.  I got yelled at for flying like that.

I started flyin FSX a couple weeks ago and I'm still trying to get used to it. The graphics aren't (relatively) that great yet they eat my FPS like potato chips. It's hard to find a happy medium, some days I can get em in the 40s and then the next it's down to 10 with TrackIR getting chopped up at the same time.

I haven't jumped into any missions yet, just been free flying my A2A P-51. That thing is fun when the frame rate is going decent.

The main appeal FSX has for me is the ability to fly anywhere in the world. I could pretend to crash a 747 into any one of you guy's homes! :O Maybe I should crash it into Microsoft HQ. :x

I'm thinking about getting a high quality payware airliner down the road, what would you guys suggest?

Its been almost 2 years but IIRC the PMDG 747 series were amazing, as was the Level D 767 line.

I couldn't figure out how to get new aircrat in FSX  :headscratch:

I think it is a blast though, especially on the rare occasions when you found a room with a lot of people. Squeakers with all kinds of accents would get pissed when you took off without a clearance.  :lol

I know that simviation had lots of nice, free planes. There was another also, but I can't remember the name.

I had a sweet F-16, C-130 and an OV-10. The OV-10 was extremely fun and I highly recommend it.

There are many sites that offer aircraft for download. Some of the sites offer a free membership but the download speeds are slow if you are not a paid member.
Some aircraft are available with installers, others you must manually install into fsx. Its actually very easy to do and the majority of aircraft come with a 'read me' file that has those manual installation instructions. Send me a pm if you would like help there.

For those who take their flying more as a simulation than as a game, Google vatsim. Be warned that the joining seems daunting, but it is actually simple to complete. And it take computer flying to another level.

There are groups who fly as virtual airlines with routine flight plans. There are also virtual military groups. These outfits will normally offer you training, but prefer that you have a basic understanding of FAA protocols and general aviation procedures.

VATSIM is free, but play by their rules as they have little tolerance for those who don't.

I have enjoyed AH for many years, but there are times when flying into KJFK or KZTL is more of an adventure.

One of my most favorite things to do was take the Cessna Grand Caravan and try to pancake it down on the smallest, most difficult runways I could find. Lukla and the surrounding area was a favorite hotspot for hot-chit bush pilot types. Lot's of great runways in Alaska/Canada as well.

Of course the other half of the fun was getting back out again.  :airplane:

Man, I should get a copy of FSX going again.

EDIT: Another thing I liked to do was take the Extra and start at the north end of the Grand Canyon and fly NOE all the way to Hoover Dam. Then there was that around the world flight I did in the Lear... oh man it took a couple weeks but was awesome. Some of the most rewarding stuff was winging with r/l pilots. Listening to the professional manner with which they communicated to ATC was cool as heck.

And the lobby... oh man the lobby was un-moderated, so there were some wickedly awesome flame wars.  :rofl

I remember when that Air France flight went down off of South America. The FSX community had the case solved within hours. Of course it was all speculation at the time, but the general consensus turned out to be true.

I could go on and on about the awesomeness of FSX and it's community back in the day.

I downloaded an f4u and couldnt even get off the ground, all it would do is groundloop no matter how much rudder I used or what inputs I made.  Had a p51 but no gauges, same with a spit.  my favorite is a cirrus sr22, fun plane to fly

How does FSX compare to X Plane 10?  I watched some youtube videos on X Plane 10.  The graphics look pretty good, but I'm more curious as to how realistic the flight modeling is.

http://www.x-plane.com/desktop/meet_x-plane/

"X-Plane is not a game, but an engineering tool that can be used to predict the flying qualities of fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft with incredible accuracy.

Because X-Plane predicts the performance and handling of almost any aircraft, it is a great tool for pilots to keep up their currency in a simulator that flies like the real plane, for engineers to predict how a new airplane will fly, and for aviation enthusiasts to explore the world of aircraft flight dynamics."

I don't know if that system would be a problem for low end CPU's or not.

I have X-Plane 9 and at one time was spending time on it. But, it seems to me that the community for FSX is much larger. there seem to be many more aircraft available, and a lot of those airframes are freeware. Most of the sites, that had aircraft I wanted, were strictly payware for X-Plane. That also goes for add-ons in general.
