Title: Who deserves the credit?
Post by: perdue3 on October 08, 2012, 05:35:35 PM
Friday is the longest day of my work week. It is the only day that my workplace has the extreme privilege of having me for 12 hours. The other days of the week (excluding Monday) I work only 6 hours. When I get home late on Fridays I have many things to look forward to after a long, aching day at work: Ice cold Heineken, a hot meal, a scalding blonde, and FSO. Of these, I look forward most to FSO. Why is this? I have just had a long day at work, you would think I would like to get home and rest up a bit. When in fact I set up a custom arena immediately and wonder where my squaddies are. Of course the Heineken need not to wait, but the woman and meal do. So again, why is it that I pass these things up for FSO? Do the CMs get credit? COs? Terrain team? No. The squaddies get all the credit. The guys that do not get to see the orders or the big picture. The guys that show up, say "Hello" and get into the ride their CO tells them to with no questions asked. The guys that show up week in week out and take it to the max every time. CMs and COs alike, these are the guys we need to thank for this wonderful event. Without them, Fridays would be limited to hot meals and hot girls. Sounds good, but not good enough for me.

Having said that, I would like to send out a huge Thank You and <S> to all of the "squaddies". You know who you are, without you this event dies and dies quickly. More Fridays please (copyright Nefarious).

Agreed, <S> to all that devote their friday evening to flying with and against us. Fridays wouldn't be the same without all y'all.

Although for me, fridays would be just hot women and cold food, she cant cook for squat  :lol

I can't disagree with the sentiment, but I think I'll add a couple of things...

HTC deserves a lot of credit for giving us players such a large sandbox to play in, and for giving a team of dedicated volunteers the ability to create a wide variety of special events to share with the rest of the community. My schedule doesn't work so well for most of the other events, so I spend time here and there jumping from arena to arena and side to side when I can - meeting a wide variety of players from all sorts of places - adversaries one night and teammates another night.

The players deserve a lot of credit for turning out for special events. "Enemies" in the mains many times are "Friends" during events...and sometimes not ;). Squaddies help to make it special; they're the core of one's little part of the overall "big picture". You know them, they know you, they get your humor, you get theirs. Hopefully though, during an event or series of events, you get to know some of the other squads and guys that you see out in the main arenas. Finding out they're mostly all pretty Ok guys makes fighting them in the mains more fun and (for me anyway) lessens the desire and the need to be a jackhole when something doesn't go my way.

Years ago, I think it was Pyro I was talking to at a con over a beer. He mentioned that the longevity of a HTC customer greatly increases when someone joins a squad.

Anyone who has ever been involved with a squad and made some friends, some life long, can certainly understand your sentiment. I know I do.

Agreed. I have met a few of my squaddies in person. We have seen triumphs and tragedies in our own lives and my squaddies have been there through thick and thin. Although the committment has dropped over the years, we still have the core intact. <<S>> to all my friends.  :salute

I am sorry if I was not clear. It is the squaddies (all of them), not just mine that get the credit. Of course HTC gets credit but we dont want to get into all of that do we? That would lead to thanking his parents and their parents and Christopher Columbus, etc. :)

Let's be realists, without the numbers the event goes away. There are a few events that only Zeus himself knows why are still around. Their numbers are very low. Not FSO baby. The best part is we need not a reminder. It is already on our calendar, no hype necessary. You can argue that without CMs and COs the event goes away. Guess what? CMs can replaced as can COs. Squads having low numbers can arguably be replaced but it is much more difficult. Another <S> to the squaddies. That is my opinion (humble or not). I suppose I could explain further if needed.

Dude!  You passed up on the hot girl?  Just proves values these days are not what they use to be.  Who is going to hold you food and drink while you play?

I missed this post. Very true <S> FSO squad-mates for making it a positive experience.

Well here is a "squaddies" perspective, I'm at every FSO, unless I'm in the hosbital I don't miss. I don't have very good luckin the FSO but I don't miss. I get pissed at my performance in the FSO but I don't miss. My wife yells at me for not missing an FSO, my kids yell at me for not missing the FSO. Why is that you might ask? Well it's simple I fly FSO because of my squaddies, they are like family to me, they have my back here, they make me laugh, and the make it FUN!!! No matter how bad things are in the real world these guys always make it alot easier. Fso is my stress relief and trust me I have alot of stress in my life right now!!!! Even the rest of the players are "squaddies", it takes a certain type of person to enjoy these kind of games and we're all a different breed. So  :salute to all the "squaddies" you all deserve special recognition in my mind.  :salute to the KN's, you guys keep me going in more ways than one!!!!

I love FSO, I have been flying in FSO for almost two years now and I've been with the same bunch since. The guys I fly with are some of my closet friends in the game. I love the competition and I love that    everything is always changing.
 :salute to G3MF
:salute to the participants of FSO you guess make my Friday nights
