Title: Mig Alley Korean War Arena
Post by: RicOShay on October 11, 2012, 04:57:33 PM
AH already has a WW1 arena that few people use. Why not a Korean War arena? It would be awesome with Mig 15's vs F-86A sabers. A lot of the current planes used in WWII were used in the Korean war such as the B-29, F-4U, P-51  are already available in AH.

Come on guys DO IT. Firing the Mig's 37mm cannon with its tennis ball size tracers would be awesome.

Because it would be another arena with almost nobody in it.

So what? We already have a couple of those.

I think it's a worthy wish that should be implemented... in the future.

Personally I'd rather see them work on getting all cockpits upgraded to the new standards, as well as adding a few grahic tweaks to some of the older animations and such. Not to meation adding new planes for the Main arena.

I agree wholeheartedly, but it sure would be nice to see some Korean action in the future. Don't you think so?

Not really, because depending on the model of Sabre, the arena will be either MiG 15 vs. MiG 15 or Sabre vs. Sabre.  If the early Sabre models are the ones added then most will up in the MiG 15, since the MiG 15 could out turn, climbed faster and higher, out accelerate and out zoom the early Sabres.  If it was the F-86F that was added, then you'd see probably everyone on Sabres as the advantages the MiG 15 had over early Sabre models was no longer there.

ack-ack

". . . since the MiG 15 could out turn, climbed faster and higher, out accelerate and out zoom the early Sabres."  That being said the saber still chalked up a 10:1 kill ratio. Actually the F-86 could out turn and out roll the Mig-15. The F-86 had flight controls that were hydraulically activated and the Mig used outdated mechanical flight controls requiring lots of muscle power. Unbelievably they used the same outdated system in the Mig 17 and Mig 19. All model sabers including the A model had radar ranging and firing solutions gun systems and the Mig 15 had a primitive gunsight system that was totally obsolete for the jet age. The saber had a flying horizontal tail the Mig 15 did not. In a dive the saber could go supersonic and recover while the Mig 15 could not. The 50 cal guns on the saber could fire over 100 rounds per second and could do a lot of damage. The two 23mm cannons in the mig were very slow and the 37mm was so slow as to be almost useless in a jet age dogfight.  This was because the Mig 15 was designed to shoot down slow cumbersome bombers. Nevertheless your probably right, after flying the Mig 15 and F-86 we would end up in an arena with sabers fighting other sabers. That being said you have convinced me that a Mig Alley arena probably wouldn't work out so I withdraw my wish. :salute

make it like the MA where you can capture bases and things along those lines we might even get a b36  :x if we had a Korean war MA

all the guys in the 91st have discussed this so I know we would use it lol if it could be implemented that is

but maybe added in the near future....................... ............................. .............. :pray :pray

What MiG15 vs Sabre are you talking about?  I've not read anything to the contrary that the MiG15's had any advantage over the F86 Sabre, and visa-verse.  From all that I have read it was due to the training and experience of the US/UN pilots over the very lightly trained and inexperienced Chinese and NK pilots.  When the Soviets stepped in the ration was closer to 3 to 1, iirc.  *shrugs*  The opening statement just threw me for a loop is all.   :salute

both the mig and the sabre where very closely matched in performance the only key quality the sabre had over the mig was diving being able to go supersonic in a dive  was something the mig could not do

would you play in a ww1 arena if you could capture bases?

No.

Give us the MIG and Sabre models and only allow them in custom arenas. Since only paying costumers can utilize custom arenas, it would be dillford.

WW1 arena is dead, fact a pair of planes won't make an arena.....

Korean Arena will be dead after one month, Saber vs Mig-15.

fill out an arena to see it actually thrive.

If the WW1 arena filled out plane sets, set up a few arenas (1916/17/18) you have yourself a plan.

1918 as a LWA, 1916 as an EWA..... however my best response would be to have separate perks for this..

Nope, a pair of planes won't make an arena, but they will make a dogfight.

It's only two closely modeled jet fighters, after all.

Big arse deal if HTC decides to throw out a couple Korean models after the HE-111 and Beufighter.

(In the meantime, they could slow the darn troops down.)

yes but thats not the point the WWI arena is dead because there is no base capture or tanks or blimps or bombers

korean war would be better as it favors to all the LW players with all the late war rides

no it wouldn't and no it doesn't...all you would have is a 2 sided jet dogfight arena, that's it. after a couple of weeks when the "new" wore off, it would be nothing but squeakers bouncing around ho'ing each other in f-86's.

you need to take a closer look at all of the elements that bring the population into the late war arena, then do better research on all of the aspects of the korean war and how every aspect would work in a game where there are 3 sides, not just 2. the n.koreans didn't roll in with divisions of soviet made armor, or attempt to gain the level of air superiority that the 3rd reich did.

-1 No new arenas while the CV still motorboats back and forth within sight of the shoreline,  :rofl
Just too much stuff still needed in the regular arenas..

And the NoKos DID come rolling south with plenty of Soviet made Tanks..
Summer of 1950, opening move of the war.. No way for the Occupation
troops from Japan to stop them.. Crushed everything in their way.. Withdrawing
into the Perimeter at Pusan, behind a river, blowing the bridges, under an umbrella
of concentrated Arty fire, naval gunfire, and 24/7 Airstrikes from USN carriers, and
USAF from Okinawa, was the only thing that prevented a total defeat!

Still, the NoKos managed to make several river crossings, and had to be driven back
into the water, wiped out in hand to hand fighting... They were and are, no pushovers..

I think that there are many things that need to be fixed/upgraded before we get another arena. Still a good idea though.

If you want Jet vs Jet in here, I would rather see them bring in a perked Meteor or P-80A.  I also think that a Korean War arena would see very little use.  HTC would be better off spending their time improving and modernizing the WW2 arenas and aircraft.
