Title: Slow troops down, speed pilots up
Post by: Melvin on October 11, 2012, 06:23:58 PM
Like the title says, I wish that HTC would slow the AI troops running speed down and speed up the running speed of player controlled pilots.

 :salute

Why slow them down?  I think they run a a respectable speed but not to fast.   You have aiming problems?

They're not a 1:1 representation of people. Troops are a gameplay consideration, nothing more. Slowing them down would negatively affect gameplay balance by making base takes harder to defend and require more time over town loitering and just waiting for them to run.

So you pick this item to nitpick, but ignore the 70mph convoys that knock over tanks and driver over runways?

Pick your battles, man. Pick your battles.

I'm curious as to how you know this... were you racing them?

I don't think you need to slow the troops down until the 10 guys with semi-automatic rifles and grenades actually open fire on the punk pilot running around with just a .45 who wants to keep them out of the maproom...

Just sayin'

Somebodies gotta do it.

Exactly what is the gameplay consideration that is being taken into account by having the pilots move at a snail's pace?

Slow the troops down and speed the pilots up.

Please.

The pilot is running at 10 mph over extended distances. I wouldn't call that "snail's pace"...

Always wondered why our troops were not 10 players who volunteered to run the gauntlet so to say. Or even 5 players since only the AI troops have the ability to jump over buildings with a single bound. Then if the base is captured give the pilot\driver and the 5-10 players perks for the effort.

Hitech could even code it so 5 are AI and up to 5 players can join as a trooper. When the pilot\driver spawns, any unfilled of the 5 become AI. Heck, put 3 slots on a jeep that can release the 3 players from 2500yds out if needed. One player could tie up a base capture for a long time. Or the vTards could lemming swarm a town from 10 jeeps.

I think they run pretty fast for loaded down combatants.  Most players already drive directly to the maproom before releasing, I doubt making them even run half as fast over that average distance of 20-feet from the maproom to tailgate would be notable.

I can see airborne troops being "modeled" lighter and thus travel as fast as they currently do, might even encourage more base takes with C-47s than the current norm of sneakin in an M3.

I was going to suggest that for a legit comparison drop a few troops from an LVT2 and let them, then drive along side of them at 25mph and see just how fast those 180lb paras hauling 150lbs of gears are actually moving.

The LVT2 is barely faster.

Obviously, the discrepancy can be blamed on game play.  First off, just how fast can loaded troops sprint?  Secondly, how far can those troops sprint carrying 150lbs of gear?  Thirdly, just how high can they jump???  Ever see them hurdle a building or a hedge row in a single bound???  ;)
