You did the same move as I did in the Perfect Tail slide video.. only difference is the torque beat you and your plane started flipping the wrong way...

Nice Jo. You're clearly the top K4 stick these days. :salute Maybe my 30mm timing will come back some day... but I'm content learning other birds.

:o thanks, there is a few guys still out there that will give a run for my money in the k4.
You got me hooked on the Ki84 though. Having to much fun with it! :airplane:

I do that with my eyes closed...

Always thought it would fit your style. It demands an aggressive technique, because, well, it can't do anything above 320 mph. ;P
Only problem is that I notice my 30mm timing atrophies whenever I fly something else.

Every time I start to think, 'Hey Im getting pretty good in the K4', I duel Jo and my tiny Ego goes back into its hole :cry

nice shot might have been different if he would have not had ur wingman 200 off his 6

I've been messing around with the K4 some since I got back into the game. I'm a mess for the most part, I was curious if someone would explain the "tailslide" and how you do it? Great films btw!.
Thanks

Hey Zaph, the tail slide is pretty simple,
Pull, Aileron left, Rudder right - all at the same time, and preferably below like ~225 mph. Throttle management helps control it otherwise you'll likely do a quick spin/stall. I'm not the best at explaining things, I can send you some films if you'd like, there's also guys like Joach1m and Krupnski who do them much better than me though.

Thanks Redbull. I'll give that a shot, I tried messing around with it offline before you posted that with limited success. I have a love hate relationship going with the 109K currently but I'm determined to learn it. I've had moments of brilliance and more frequent epic fails lol. I'll take any film of it I can get buddy, thanks again :aok

Until you're comfortable with handling the k4 in a multitude of situations, including rolling scissors, a reliance on gimmicks like a tailslide are going to be more of a hindrance. I've had a couple pilots recently try to pull it out in a duel with me and they ended up getting tatered pretty quick. But because of their improvement of the basics, and my general rust, they both proceeded to slap me around the rest of the night with straight up moves.

I couldn't agree more. I don't have much luck with gimmicks in a fight except as a last ditch effort (which normally doesn't work for me). I just want to know how to do the maneuver since it is possible. It also lets you explore the limits of what is possible, which I think is important if your going to learn how to fly a particular bird. I don't have the good sense to run alot of the time so I want to be able to hang whatever I'm in out and maybe win a fight because I can handle the plane better than the guy who hasn't done that.
I think the K4 excels in the rolling scissors and I typically try to create that situation in a fight because it likes the vertical so much, could be I'm wrong about that. I'm not an expert at acm. I also tend to not keep an alt advantage in it preferring to stick at lower alts so I can fight it in less than ideal conditions. It seems to me that most of the fights I lose doing that are mostly because of my control issues and super slow speeds. I tend to stall it out trying to force it too much and the torque gives me fits. It doesn't seem as forgiving as the Ki84 but similar in alot of ways. I don't even want to talk about my gunnery ;)
-
What Scotch said, be able to fly the K4 on the stall buffet consistently without dropping a wing, and learn the torque at slow speeds. Initiating any kind of flip is the easy part, how well you recover from them though will determine if you live or die.
