I'm going to add a desktop switch and was thinking about using the following: D-Link DGS-1008G 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch
http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect/switches/dgs-1008g-8-port-gigabit-desktop-switch (http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect/switches/dgs-1008g-8-port-gigabit-desktop-switch)
If anyone has any words of wisdom to pass along it would be greatly appreciated.

I would get something more trustworthy instead like HP procurve for example. I have no experience in D-link switches but I know that their wireless routers were total trash. Stoped using D-link products completely 7-8 years ago.

Not sure what your needs are (or the budget), so I've just listed three which are similar but better. Price would be from $10 to $30 more though.
HP Procurve 1410-8G (prices as low as $70)
HP V1405C-8G (not a Procurve, but decent desktop switch, as low as $60)
NETGEAR GS108NA ProSafe (not as good as two above, but better than D-Link, prices about $50)
If you were looking into D-Link DGS-1008G because it looks pretty on the desk, I'd look into Linksys SE2800 (about same price, but notch above D-Link)
