It was reported that he received a  promotion while stationed at Camp Pickett VA in the September 23, 1942 edition of the Camden Couriier-Post.

John Hunsinger went overseas, and served with the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infanmtry Division. He was killed in action on February 2, 1945. His death was reported in the Camden Courier-Post April 3, 1945 edition. He was survived by his mother Mrs. Catherine Hunsinger. An address on the Black Horse Pike, Cross Keys NJ, was given in the paper.

he was my grandmothers brother, which i think makes him my great uncle? and i never got to meet the guy. somehow, i think he was a cool guy, and it would've been cool as all hell being able to talk to him when i was growing up.

i'm gonna see if i can find anything on where he was stationed during the war, and where he was killed. i remember my grandmom telling us that he was dragging an injured soldier to cover when he was shot, but that's all i remember ever hearing her say about it....and that was when i was a kid. in fact, i think i'm gonna call my uncle, see if he knows any more too.........
