The one thing I would like to see added is the 57mm Recoiless Rifle to the Jeep. Kinda like the M3 and its variations, but the jeep would not be able to carry troops or supplies when fitted with the 57mm. This would bring a pretty decent prespective to the GV side of the game, as it would allow the rapid recon of a spawn point or rapid responce to a town or base that is being hit. As a light recon the jeep is great as it is fast and hard to see when in a hide, but has no attack value, just resupply and troops. I do believe that a jeep fitted with a 57mm would even make those Tiger II sweat it out when sitting on their field and firing from 5K out. Just the thought of a jeep getting through the defensive line and getting in close with a 57mm would be enough to keep that Tiger looking around and not just concentrating on the spawn while sitting safely on the pad. Now the catch would have to be that when the 57mm fired it would have a tracer trail and would place smoke from where it was fired for at least 20-30 seconds, causing the jeep to be a fire and displace weapon and not just something that could sit in a hide spot and ambush everything within its range. Once it fired its firing position would be known for that length of time the smoke is active. Just my opinion as I have reconned areas several times in a jeep and had an enemy tank drive right next to me and not know I am there and how I wish I had that 57mm at that point. It may not be able to kill the big boy tanks but it could sure track or turret it depending on the type tank engaged and shot placement, and would definately be a shoot and scoot tactic.

I cannot find any details of jeeps being armed with 57 or the very late war 75mm in WWII. maybe a few where field mounted onto jeeps but its was in no way common, atlest from the info i can locate.

How's about a Jeep and a Trooper with a Bazooka?

Recoilless Rifle
Operation Varsity, the Allied airborne crossing of the Rhine in March 1945, saw the first combat use of the 'recoilless rifle'; both the M18 57mm and M20 75mm by the 17th AB Division.
The recoilless rifle is a light weight artillery weapon carried by infantry for anti-tank fire or to assault fixed positions. In the U.S. military, the recoilless rifle was first used toward the end of World War II.
Recoilless Rifle Models in the U.S. Military
The recoilless rifle combined a rocket propelled munition with a rifled barrel (unlike the smooth bore bazooka) firing a spin-stabilized round with anti-tank capability. The RR ammunition looks like an artillery round but with "swiss cheese" vent holes in the case allowing escape of the gasses that propel the round. The light recoil made it possible to fire them from the shoulder, a tripod, or smaller vehicles such as a jeep.
There were five major models in the family of Recoilless Rifles fielded by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps:
57mm M18 (WW II & Korea)
75mm M20 (WW II & Korea)
90mm M67 (Vietnam)
105mm M27 (Korea)
106mm M40 (Vietnam)
The M18 and M18A1 recoilless rifle were developed late in World War II for use like a bazooka as an anti-tank or anti-personnel weapon. It was light enough to be fired from the shoulder, although heavier than a bazooka. The M18 takes a 57 mm round effective against 1 inch armor up to a range of 4500 yards (meters) much more range and penetration than the bazooka. The M18 was used by Marines in Okinawa as well as in Korea until replaced by the more effective 3.5 inch M20 bazooka with its HEAT round.
This is what I found on the recoiless rifle and it was used in late part of WWII and in to Korea War. It was just a thought of adding this as it would add a little curve to the act of spawn camping as it would allow rapid flanking with the ability to inflict moderate damage to enemy spawn campers.

This is your original wish.

I will repeat myself once more, hopefull it sinks in this time. There were no jeep mounted 57mm recoilless rifles used in WW2 or any other recoilless rifles mounted on jeeps. That's not saying the 57mm recoilless rifle didn't see use in WW2, I'm just saying the set up you're wishing for didn't exist during WW2, though they were used in Korea.
This is a thread in which someone else asked for the 57mm recoilless rifle be added to the jeep.

It's not a WW2 picture, it's a 1950s era photo. That's a M40 recoilless rifle, not developed until the early 1950s and first saw combat use in the Korean War, not WW2. And finally look at the crew, during WW2 there weren't any integrated units.

You have to admit that is one damn fine field mod - that looks like a MG nest killer to me.
The other picture (the FREEDOM one) - is that a 37mm?

Korea?

I know im not the only one, but I have had jeeps kill me in T34's, Panzer's, and I believe once my Tiger lol. It's really cheap and bogus, but I came to the conclusion that if my enemy can do that with a jeep, then :salute lol

Korea?
Definitely Korean War era but not sure if that picture posted by crazyivan is from the Korean War.

I've killed a Panzer IV IIRC, but that was just a technicallity. Upped in the middle of a spawn camp, drove around shooting at tanks, and then fled. One of them towered out

Please, you guys aren't trying hard enough.
All the planes were either proxies or they augered after I pinged them a few times, but the rest are legit kills with the jeep.

I find it incredibly unlikely that you destroyed any tank using a single .50 cal. Ditch after a ping = auger after a ping :neener:.

How much are you willing to bet on that?
-
Get me film of you destroying an M4 (any variant), Panzer IV (any model), T-34 (/76 or /85, take your pick), or a Tiger (either one will do!), using the single .50 caliber mount on the Jeep.
-
I think it used to be that you could drive a jeep inside a tank and kill the driver.....Anyone know if they fixed that yet?
(Sorry I'm a returning player :o).

Here's 2 kills in one sortie before I got killed. Skip to 2:10 for one kill and 3:00 for the other.

BTW this is after the "fix." So when you hear a Jeep buzzing around the battlefield... Be afraid!
