So, I'm a few years overdue for the manly butt probe :O :cry at the dr's office. At least they put you out for that. My dr is getting a lil cranky because I havent had one. A couple of "friends" sent me a couple of you tube songs to help cheer me up. I'd thought I'd share and if you guys got any others I'd sure like to see em. I gotta go in next month for it. :bolt:

The thing I could never figure out was Golytely. Is it one of those ironic names? Because I'm assuming you do anything but after drinking a gallon of it.

As was pointed out to me here once by someone, it beats the alternative.

It's a piece of cake. You won't have a problem and after it's over you'll be so glad you had it done. When I had mine I had the choice of being "knocked out" or not. I chose not to and was able to watch the entire procedure on the monitor. Interesting to say the least. I might add there was no pain or discomfort. Even though the Doctors have heard all the jokes it's still fun to hit them with a line from the old Star Trek show - Be careful Doc. because you're "going where no man has gone before.

procrastinating is just increasing the chances of being surprised by something you really do not want...the gallon of poop juice is the worst part of it, nothing makes it palatable. hopefully you can get the horse pills instead. lemonade flavored sugarless kool aid or something like that can make the poop juice easier to swallow but, you're going to gag before you get the entire thing down. when i have to do it again, i'm starting earlier than the recommended. i don't want to go through hammering the stuff down just to make the time period again, it made drinking the poop juice tougher.
oh and on the first run (literally), flush more than once...

This could be the best advice I have heard so far. I have heard from those here at home who have done it to use, or rather put crystal lite or equivalent into the mix to make it taste somewhat palatable.

There is more than one "prep" juice choice. You DO want to have a flavor aid option. You will also probably be told to drink other liquids like gatoraide as you CAN get dehydrated by this process. You will not be allowed to use a version that has a red or purple color to it. By far the worst part is the prep, it really is not terribly bad but figure on having a very light day. You ain't going out or doing any heavy lifting on prep day......
Oh and BTW your doc may just offer you pics of the insides. Really not suitable for framing but interesting anyhow. ;)

I took my Father to the hospital to have it done. He was mildly sedated during it but had no problems at all.
I was a little wicked when i told him there was hand marks on his shoulders.
He didn't speak to me for ages in the car driving him home. :devil

I just had mine done earlier this year - in March. I'm only 36. They put me out and next thing I knew it was done! No soreness or anything. It wasn't a big deal at all.
Luckily they found nine polyps in me, several of which were "pre-cancerous". I'm so happy my insurance company didn't put up a fight over the deductible (or should I say "lack thereof" due to this being a cancer screening).
My father kept putting his off for years until he got sick last year and his doctor begged him to get one. He finally had it done which revealed stage 4 colon cancer. He had a large section of his colon removed and endured several months of chemotherapy before he finally passed away a couple of months ago. He was 63 years old.
There is absolutely nothing about a colonoscopy to be afraid of... there's nothing "non-manly" about it and no reason whatsoever to put this off and there are no ill-effects of having the procedure done. I took my dad with me when I got mine done.. as I thought it'd be nice for him to be in the waiting room for a change! Afterwards he took the attitude that his cancer was worth it because it likely saved my life. He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off of his back even if it meant him freezing to death in the process.
God bless you Dad. I can't wait to see you again!

1) I told the doctor my minimum requirements were to take me to a nice eatery first...tablecloths....stroll ing minstrels...I get to order the lobster.
2) I told the doctor if he found any loose change it's MINE.
