Guys,
The screwup on the location of the Tirpitz TF was completely my fault. I meant for it to be in the 10.13 grid and that is where I showed it on the Allied Objective map. Somehow I placed it at 10.12 grid on the Axis objective map. I matched the maps and reviewed them before sending and somehow missed the mistake and there is no excuse for it. The setup team used the Axis map for the position of the Tirpitz during setup of the arena. The fault lies completely with me not them. You players deserve a better product than that and all I can offer is an apology.

A big <S> to the Allies, was hard fought. I realize that it didnt go exactly as planned on Friday, but wish to commend you all on your flexability.
Another big <S> to the Axis you put up some great fights.
Had the Tirpitz been in the sector that my orders said they were things may have turned out a little differently.
<S> to the CMs for their hard work in setting up and to all who participated.

Unlucky on the mistake Shifty, it's easily done. But I do believe she was unfortunately sunk by 2 dive bombing TBMs underneath my nose; proving that you didn't need to spoon feed the Allies.
-
off with his head! isn't that what we do to people that make mistakes around here?
its happens man, doesn't really matter, the allies are missing a carrier and a CA from my perspective hehehehe
if we were all the same, it wouldn't be any fun! good job anyway. it was fun and that's all that matters. one sector didn't change the tide of the game. and its just that......a game!
-
All in all frame 1 went pretty well. Mistakes happen. To kick a guy who has made a sincere apology for a design error is very sad to see. Sad and uncalled for.
-
not accepted or even excusable.
I really hope that this was meant to be tongue in cheek or sarcastic humor...
<S> Shifty, things happen and mistakes are made, it was still a fun night with and that's what matters!

Well, Shifty.. That's how wars go. It's not like we all sat around last night staring at blank screens.
You do a lot for the AH community. Stuff happens. :-)

Wait...this made it more difficult to find? Like in real life? And then it was sunk anyway?
Sounds like fun had by all.

Anyone who does stuff like this till their eyes bug out can understand how easy it is to do.

Yes a mistake was made and it's understandable, but don't say fun was had be all.
As a scout who flew grid 10.13 up and down and back and forth looking for the ships
and then getting jumped by 190's was not fun.
-
We had one hell of a fight in 9, 12, kp-9 and in 10, 13, kp-1.
We were eventually tied up with 4 squads total.
We fought to the very last man with only one of our guys disengaging and RTB due to a half wing. From the beginning to end, the fight was one of the most intense for us in FSO that I can recall and seemed to last an eternity. I hope that we gave the axis a good and difficult fight.
As far as reall life? In real life, we would know the approximate location based on recon flights. That is how the orders would be developed. So yes, we should have known the approx (sector) of the CV, as you knew the locations (sectors) of ours. Or, we would have fanned more scouts to adjoining sectors.
I commend Shifty for speaking on this. It can happen though.
Overall, yes, we were disappointed about the location of the boat, mainly because we had the plan covered to sink it, and sink it we would had it been there. But, (at least our squad) had a great time as the action begain very quickly, there were lots of enemy planes, and the fight lasted a while, though most of us were shot down last night.
It was a fun one indeed!

Shifty every one makes a mistake once in a while. Don't let it get you down. You forth rightness in you admitting you made a mistake to the community is commendable. Just remember, Anything you say can and will be held against you in you Courts Martial. Presiding over you Courts Martial will be Admiral Surfinn.

To quote Paul Harvey: "And now the rest of the story." Nosey logged in last night and didn't have orders. Kurt and I checked and his squad was allied. I asked him to check on Country channel and get the Orders. He PM'd back.... Allies is that Rook or Knight? And yet, he sank the battleship. All that I am saying is that a million little details were covered to bring you the event. A lot of hard work went into the event from the players, squads and CMs. The ship was found and sunk. The resistance looked fierce from my view. And obviously, a lot of people had fun. Yes, some people were frustrated (including 1 design CM) . But, welcome to FSO! No apology needed my friend, but since you were gracious enough... (I'll say it) Apology acceptted and Thanks for all your hard work!
-
Lets not incite things futher here guys shall we??? Shifty has apologised to the Allies as a whole and to me as CiC for Frame 1. I have accepted his apology and understand that no one can say "Ive never made a mistake." These things will happen from time to time, and its not "what " happens, but "how" you proceed from that point on. Surfinn is entitled to his opinion and to post it here on the BBS. We worked long and hard to plan our attack and defense, as Im certiain KN did also. I wonder if the shoe were on the other foot and our boats were not in the sectors that the Axis recieved, how many would be on the boards screaming bloody murder. I for one had a great time on Friday, yes it was stressful, yes it was frustrating to have our scouts not find the Tirpitz. We were forced to adapt and so we did. So lets not turn this into a pissing contest of moral firbre or ethics, because as we all know no one wins an Intenet Argument. If these types of posts persist I will be asking for the thread to be locked. Feel free to PM whomever you wish to, but for Gawds sake lets not make it worse on the Boards.

Guys I appreciate the support, thank you. In regards to surfinn I don't blame him for his frustration. He was part of the CiC team and they worked hard on a battle plan that was compromised by an Admin brain fart. I would have been just as frustrated. I screwed up and am willing to take my lumps for it. I do ask that we not allow my mistake to snowball into a flamefest between players.
Even with the position error the Allied recovered enough to get to the Tirpitz and sink it. The Axis carried out two effective attacks and the air to air action was intense for both sides. The event still has two frames and victory can yet be had by either side. Again I really appreciate the positive comments they mean a lot, but at the same time I earned the negative ones all on my own.
One of the best parts of the FSO to me over the years was for the most part guys kept it civil with some friendly jabs on the BBS, but fought like hell in once in the arena flying their aircraft. That is the why the FSO has been a success. That is the way it should be, don't let a mistake tarnish that. I need a red and white cane and a seeing eye dog to go with my sunglasses by the way.

Apology Accepted Shifty . . You stood tall without hesitation, I over looked this in my heated frustration of the moment last night . . it's all good sir <SALUTE> (and I rescind my wise crack for a rematch)

:lol the plan wasn't to sink Tirpitz . . it was to sink sink Tirpitz and all the escorts with her!!! :t
No matter though because that was one awesome brawl that developed in her vacinity, I never saw her but now believe our flight plan just about put us over her by accident! Did we run into her cap???
-
4 x Outstanding Axis squads comprised of 43 fliers? .... I'm guessing yes we ran into the CAP.
:-)
Sir Shifty,
I no longer do real war for a living, but I can assure that bad things happen there too.
Good on you for standing up.
Apology not need, but gladly accepted!
(Next week I hope I have a rudder when KoW slides past me < 50 yds ... :-) )
Week 2 ... can't wait!

Yes mommy... so you are saying his opinion is valid. but any who contest his are not and should anyone express their own about his then you will have everything shut down? I have not seen anyone attack him personally, only comment on his opinion and what looks like in my opinion, his lack of gamesmanship, or sportsmanship if you will, which seems to be so lacking in today's society.
In defense of surfin if he was on the CiC team I can understand his frustration. Just gotta let it go though and do a pm to vent rather than make the custodian look bad.
If he should have vented through pm why are you defending his actions instead of sending HIM a pm telling him how he should have dealt with it rather than doing what you imply he should have done? His lack of tact is indefensible.
Have a tissue and get over it, is it a game or not? Jeez, are you the only ones that an FSO event didn't go the way it was "written up" in one manner or another? Sometimes I do wonder how old some of the people on here are... and not just in physical years either.
Yes, I could have not posted my thoughts, but so could you and anyone else. Once it is posted, live with the consequences.

I wont apologise for my comment, I meant it when I said it. I have had a couple of days to think about it however and I understand what happened. Mistakes happen and I appreciate what you do to put these events together for us and I appreciate your honesty and integrity in your original post. From what I've been told its a lot more difficult than the CIC duty we just pulled. I think its a great event and I look forward to finishing out the frame for this month. Everyone is quick to point out its just a game, while others talk about in real life this is what you get.
This is where I tell ya where I'm coming from and what my investment was to that FSO.
Its no secret that myself and others on the KN side have had a rivalry going for some time. I personally saw this as an opportunity to match wits with a honored foe. I basically laid out the attack plan, and with help and a lot of hours of meetings with squad mates, laid out what we thought was a great plan. I felt like a kid on Christmas eve. I had been looking forward to this event for a long time and was anxious to see how it turned out for better or for worse. I was extremely disappointed to say the least when the Intel was wrong, even though the allies did a great job of overcoming and adapting to the situation. I cant help but feel that commanders of battles have felt the same way through out the ages and I dare say if many of you were on the cic team and got bad Intel you would feel the same way as I did. Its easy to have an opinion that mirrors everyone Else's. Its a lot harder to stand up and say what you mean, especially in this day and age. I can't help to think that this is a positive, and orders will be checked twice before being sent out. :salute to all of you

Wow just wow.
I've enjoyed FSO for many years now (so many I can't remember when I started but it was back in MAG-33 were playing). It's enough for me to keep my sub going even though I rarely play in the MA anymore. And FSO wouldn't exist without the CM's putting in some hard work for free, so out of all these years when one makes a mistake sure I might be a little grumpy initially... but it's not the end of the world. I'm just thankful we have people like Shifty making this happen.
You whinging girls build a bridge and get over it. If you think you can do a better job than the fine FSO team that puts THEIR time into our entertainment then step up to the plate. In the meantime I think we're privileged to have play like Shifty in the game.

Wow, no whine is how you describe your post? Okay, my bad. Who am I? I am nobody, the same as yourself and every other virtual AH pilot. You can find me as Halo46 (if you go back enough years), Hobo and most recently Yoyo (since someone made claim to Hobo while I took a time out) in the FSO logs, MA logs, Scenario logs, and most others here and there if you are so inclined, not sure what that will do for you, it does not change anything nor mean I am wrong in feeling the same about you as you about Shifty. I sure hope you never expect to be forgiven if you ever make an honest error. If you do, it will make you a grand hypocrite. For now, this behavior only serves to make you look petty and childish, thus my opinion is simply stated as yours was before it.

Yep not a whine just a straight up statement. A whine is defined as one who complains allot if I'm not mistaken. Kinda like a young child who didn't have good parenting and uses terms like biatch etc. You like many other Luft metros have read more into my post than was there. If you will refer to page three YOYO you will see that I addressed the issue with shifty and he was fine with it. So you metro guys are doing nothing but trolling from this point. Oh and by the way, why are you Luft guys posting on a thread that was directed at the allies anyway. Its none of your business move along trolls.
With that said I agree with Molesman.

Nothing to do with allied or axis sides, separate issue. Shifty apologized to the axis and many have understood his mistake for what it was, a mistake, not the grand axis agenda you are now desperately trying to deflect your pettiness with. Your inability to accept someone could make a mistake belongs with the kids in the sandbox, not with the grownups who have made their fair share of mistakes and accept responsibility for theirs and understanding that others err as well and do not hold it against them. Shifty could have hid behind the keyboard and said nothing, but he took responsibility, and I am sure he felt a little embarrassed having to do so, but that's what a man does when he makes an error. Grow up and you can move on instead of looking silly trying so poorly to transfer the issue of your immaturity to an entirely new topic where it does not exist. There is no reason to close a thread just because you do not like being the subject of discussion, though I do understand you would like to forget posting your opinion and being held accountable for its lack of tact, maturity, and merit. We are discussing the merits of whether to forgive him his trespass or not. Many have, you appear to be the sole person who is still butthurt over it, so you are hearing how your opinion to hold a grudge is viewed by others. You seem to think that you may speak with impunity and are entitled to have other opinions censured so your feelings aren't hurt. Perhaps it will be locked, but I bet you will not forget the heat you took from it. Who knows, you may even learn from it someday.
Let me just add that this is not even about you, but about Shifty and the other CMs who freely donate a great deal of their personal time, effort, and knowledge to make something fun for all of us to do on Friday nights. Just so you know.

I'd like to thank Surfinn for taking this issue with 'Luft' guys into the Main Arena.
Hours of snipes, provocations and spitefulness is really winning us over to his high ground.

Surfinn is the allies super hero. Like a Captain America of sorts.

More like Aquaman.

Nothing to do with allied or axis sides, separate issue. Shifty apologized to the axis and many have understood his mistake for what it was, a mistake, not the grand axis agenda
Not to be rude or anything, but the apology is to the Allied side...
...and we still found the CV and sunk it.
Soooooo...... Realistically, the apology, though sincere, was really a minor thing and not a big deal at all. I don't really see a need to "accept" his apology as an acceptance isn't truly warranted. Understanding what happened and accepting it for what it is, a simple mistake not really worthy of a very long thread is all I think it is. Shifty did the right thing and good on him for manning up.
I do think though, that anyone that flamed in here on this thread should apologize, shake hands and go to their corners and prepare for the other rounds in the MAs and in FSO!

Good advice SlipKnt. :aok
Guys that stood up for me, I really appreciate it. Guys that are unhappy with my mistake, I understand and will do my best not to make the same mistake again. I was hoping this thread would die off, but it seems to keep rising up from the dead. Let it die folks this thing is getting personal and I'd like to point out the people fighting with each other didn't make the mistake I did. Let's not turn this into something else. Especially and Axis Allied thing. We need strong Axis and strong Allied pilots to make the FSO work. Fight in the arena where it counts, nothing counts in a BBS purse fight and nothing ever gets settled. One reason the FSO always worked was the two sides Axis and Allied had a mutual respect for each other. That seems to be slipping away lately. That would be a bad development for FSO. Two strong sides with mutual respect for each other and even cooperation with each other are way more important to the FSO than CMs, Points, or Misplaced Shipping. This bowl is full guys flush it and forget it. :salute
-
You are right Shifty but you have to admit that while flushing if a couple of the dou'ches were to go down the drain too the FSO would be better off. :aok

Thanks for the correction, my bad... Allied or axis is a null point, that's what is so funny, everyone has to fly one side and the other at times regardless. He is grasping at straws to deflect the heat from the real issue. I will abide by your wishes Shifty, no more from me. <S>
-
Since you didn't fly in the event there should have been nothing from you in the first place.

Guys,
The screwup on the location of the Tirpitz TF was completely my fault.
:salute
Takes a lot of class to take responsibility for an error. :salute Shifty
