Title: Pilot kill =\= poof
Post by: titanic3 on November 04, 2012, 07:31:54 PM
Is it possible to change it so that when the pilot is killed, you lose all control but the plane itself is still there instead of going poof? "Why?" You ask?

1. Realism - planes didn't go ka blooey because their pilot died (well, not right away)
2. The "dead" pilot can look around after his "death" to see his killer.
3. A new tactic, you can pretend to go into a death spiral then pull out at the last second. If your enemy didn't pay close attention, it could save your life.  :)
4. Adds an extra lil challenge for the killer, to really make sure the target is dead.

it doesn't go Poof from a pilot kill. it goes poof from being destroyed outright.

pilot kill leaves the unmanned plane flying into the ground. this is a newer feature (last couple yrs I think)

It does.

There a "death spiral" animation if you bail only.

"New" tactic?  :headscratch:

Err, as in it might be a neat little trick to fool someone into breaking off your 6. Did I word it wrong?  :headscratch:

I've sent more than a few planes into the "death spiral" animation, but they didn't bail.  I've always seen that "poof" when I scored a pilot kill, then watch the plane spiral into the ground (I'm usually in bombers when this happens).

How is that a "new" tactic? I'm using it for years...

Because...you have a big red icon over your plane?  :headscratch: Until you explode or your pilot dies...I personally never seen it or if I did, I never fell for it. Shoot till it explodes or a wing comes off.

If my wish gets added, you won't know if the pilot is still alive (the red icon is still there) until the plane hits the ground or gets blown up.

I have similar sound effect for a pilot wound.  :)  :devil

Ive often thought if ya kill the pilot and a aileron on a drone it should collide with the lead or other drone so + 1

I would like to give your wish a +, although maybe not as far of a stretch, mostly I think there should be more grey area in AH between the pilot wounds that can last a very loing time and the equally common instant-death.  More randomness and shorter duration pilot wounds might be nice, although it could be seen as making pilot wounds more common OR making it so current pilot wounds are more lethal to players.  Adding a chance for a 30-60sec slow death/passout (IE: the head bobing camera effect with partial tunnel blacking out filter efect - just enough time and control to try and ditch it in the weeds or bail safely) seperate from the current PW with it's occasional and brief blackouts might be something neat for immersion to experiment with at the least.

Only if we can have the announcement "MK84 IS DOMINATING!!!!!"  If I get a kill streak going :D

One reason we don't have this option is that any aircraft where the pilot was sniped out during stable-speed auto-level would simply fly on until it ran out of fuel, which would increase server load.

I do agree that the explosion in the cockpit upon pilot death is a bit schmaultzy, but I do like having an indication that it's happened so I don't attempt to chase it to he deck for a while like an idiot.

But if you caught an auto level plane...why only shoot it once? Shoot it till a part comes off.
