The only thing the movie has in common with the book is the title. I just have to wonder why they bothered to pay Max Brooks for the movie rights. Could have simply gone with another title and Brooks wouldn't have a case in copyright court. It's simply a remake of 28 Days Later, as far as I can see. Too bad...was really looking forward to this movie. Now, I don't think I'll bother. I'll just keep watching "The Walking Dead" to get my zombie fix, I guess.

It's a shame too because the book was excellent and they could have made the film into a Ken Burn's like documentary.

^^^ For once Ack-Ack and I agree on something.
It looks like a Zombie action film.
I will like it I am sure, but the opportunity to make a realistic, gritty, Zombie film akin to 28 DAYS (not weeks) later, with the greatest Zombie story of all time. Was lost...
-
28 Days wasn't a zombie movie as those people weren't reanimated dead. They were alive, hence the title 28 days as that is how long it would take those infected with the virus to die of starvation.

Fast super human zombies.... so sad they screwed this title up.

The premise behind the zombie was that they were slow but outwitted by sheer numbers. Fast, super human zombies, like portrayed in the cinematic remake of I am Legend would be insurmountable. The book portrayed a great story that would have been a great draw, but alas Hollywood has to eff it up as usual.

Those weren't zombies in I Am Legend.

In retrospect, I understand why Plan-B didn't keep the "documentary" theme of Brooks' book. Ego, pure and simple. Brad Pitt runs Plan-B. He likens himself the action-hero, hence the change from an after-the-fact documentary format to a "race to save the world" action-hero theme. He wants the be the central figure, rather than simply a narrator. One of the reasons I so enjoyed the book was because it tells the story from beginning to end, from the first days where people either didn't recognize what was happening or were part of the effort to cover it up, through the period where society collapses ("The Great Panic"), through the turning point, and finally to the post-war era, where society has been profoundly changed. Most every other zombie movie goes from normalcy to total apocalypse through a plot device: main character goes to sleep one night (or is put into a coma) and wakes up and finds the world in chaos. The zombies in the teaser seem more like the army ants in the fourth Indiana Jones move, with a hive mentality. Most disappointing.

I'm no expert, but off the top of my head I can't think of a single movie where Brad Pitt has played an 'action hero' :headscratch:
Maybe there is something I am missing

Inglourious Basterds
Burn After Reading
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Troy
To name a few. I didn't mean to imply that he always plays action-based characters. More than anything else, I'm betting he just just wanted to be at the center of the film, and doing something more than just interviewing others.

Apparently Coombz is right, he is no expert.

I suppose I just have a different definition of what the term 'action hero' means in relation to movies
For example, I really wouldn't consider Pitt's role in Inglourious Basterds to be an action hero :) But I understand Sabre's point re: WWZ

Read the books going to avoid the film. Should be done like a documentary with talking heads and flash backs of action ( like the US army in the Rockies or Israel) . Fed up of crappy films . I hated the new "Total Recall" .

Doesn't look like it follows the book at all
heavily disappointed
