As some of you know, I'm a science fiction author. My fourth novel, The Fox and the Eagle, is now available on Amazon in both printed and Kindle formats.
For those unfamiliar with my writing, my science fiction combines a love of astronomy with a love for contemporary firearms. I think at some point we've all held our favorite firearm, looked in awe and wonder at the starry night sky, and thought, "I'd love to shoot an alien in the face with this." The Fox and the Eagle is a companion to my existing trilogy, but you don't have to be familiar with the others to read it. Here's the logline:
It is the year 2019. Faced with a growing number of unexplained abductions, the CIA assigns Evangeline Adeler to investigate. While researching the latest case, she herself is taken. She finds herself on the Eagle, an asteroid city far from Earth. The citizens deny abducting her, instead blaming a mysterious race known as the Kira'To. After earning her freedom, Eva travels to a nearby planet and enlists the help of Cane, a charismatic freelancer, and Reveki, the youthful owner of the independent vessel Fox. With this new alliance, Evangeline is determined to stop the abductions and find a way home.
Though she was abducted, Evangeline still has access to the firearms she had on her at the time. Additionally, older Earth weapons appear at time throughout the story, relics of earlier abductions throughout history. Ever since Hamilton Fenix and his M1911 in Heinlein's classic, Beyond This Horizon, I knew I wanted to do the same in my own writing. I hope you'll check it out!

I've had a moment when I've held something in my hand and thinking I'd love to shoot an illegal alien on her face if that counts :devil
-
Have you met Midway? I'm pretty sure he's an alien.
-
GScholz gets it! :D Although if Vasquez was at all realistic, she'd have thought, "I hope I never have to shoot an alien in the face with my backup S&W 39. That would probably suck."
Perhaps my attempt at humor was a little too narrow, guys. More precisely, my goal is to write science fiction adventure with compelling characters, a fast-paced plot, and lots of action. I like modern firearms, as do most of my fans, so I try to incorporate them into my adventures. James Cameron's Aliens is an obvious influence; sci-fi weapons don't have to be all pew-pew-pew lasers.

It's awesome to go into the bookstore and see your book on the shelf. Congrats

Would it be possible to do an alien back in time during WW2 on german soil as sci-fi? Interesting to see alien craft against 190's and ground vehicles, in detail.
You all know this would be awesome to read. Shoot, make it into a movie for $$$
-
I once read an awesome story some guy wrote about a squadron of A-10s that went back in time to Julius Caesar's Rome, and helped the legions suppress rebellions. There was a bit of discontinuity as he had Hannibal crossing the alps in the story, which obviously was before Caesar's time. Nevertheless there's this great battle scene where the Carthaginian elephants are charging the Roman line. The line breaks, and all seems lost when Caesar calls in the airstrike. You can imagine what a squadron of A-10s do to a bunch of elephants.
It was like Final Countdown meets 300. Amazing!

I also want to see a movie where the USS Enterprise goes back to the Civil War and, after a big dramatic on-ship confrontation, decides to fight for - well, I'll let it be a surprise which side they fight for. I just want to see those Hornets come screaming in with cluster bombs right in the middle of the climatic cavalry charge...

Unlike others I'm not going to make any sarcastic comments as I'm currently writing a story about an alien craft which appears in the sky and the reaction of the people of Earth to this apparition. Also I notice you are sold out which implies good sales.
Also I love your P&W eagle logo. I have a metal one like that on my fridge. Pathetic really but of such symbols.
-
Hey whoa - there's no sarcasm there. I am having a bit of fun with the time-travel crossover concept, but I'm a writer myself, I know what it means to get published. Respect. :rock

...sci-fi weapons don't have to be all pew-pew-pew lasers.
Oh and one sci-fi movie that has great alien firepower is the South African film "District 9". Probably the best and most creative I've seen on the big screen.
-
I thought District 9 was AWESOME! It was on the edge just enough to keep me glued to the screen the whole time and had me hooked.
-
Yeah. The battle scenes with Vilkus in the power armor was particularly epic!
-
Temporarily out of stock...
-
Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest in my writing! I wish I could take credit for Amazon being out of stock of the print version of The Fox and the Eagle, unfortunately this is actually due to a problem at their Arizona warehouse and not an indication of my sales prowess. As you may have noticed, there are no supply issues with the Kindle version, so if you have a Kindle-compatible device or the front-end program on your PC, you can get it immediately.
I have been in regular contact with my publisher and Amazon regarding the supply problem. My publisher confirmed that four dozen hard copies were sent to Amazon as of 11/18, and today Amazon confirmed the receipt of said shipment, though they had not yet been entered into inventory. Needless to say this makes my sales pitch a bit awkward. I apologize for the problem, and Amazon is pretty sure (for what it's worth) that The Fox and the Eagle will be listed as "in stock" by tomorrow.

I'm pleased to report that Amazon just deeply discounted my novel. You can now get it for less than $11. I hope you'll check it out!
-
I'm not sure I would be pleased if they did that. Don't you lose part of your royalties?
-
Not when it comes to Amazon and other online vendors. I get 40% of the profit on any book sold, but only orders that go directly to the publisher are calculated at the full retail price. Amazon gets their books at wholesale prices, which if I recall correctly are 30% of retail. My royalties are calculated at that price, so Amazon can charge whatever they want, I already got paid.
So while I'm only getting 30% the royalties I would if everyone ordered through the publisher, I still encourage everyone to use Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other large online vendors. This is because those vendors are well known and trusted, and people can bundle my book with anything else they sell to get free shipping. Plus, people are used to paying around $7.00-$10.00 for a new paperback, a discount that only vendors will offer. Amazon obviously received a lot of orders for The Fox and the Eagle, as they don't discount anything unless the sales numbers justify it.
So in the big picture, this is good news for me. :D

Excellent... :D

Looking at Amazon, I may have to buy all your books; Should I start with Reckless Faith?
Btw. do you actually smoke that pipe, or is it just for looks? ;)
-
You can start with either Reckless Faith or The Fox and the Eagle. Either way I would appreciate your business!
I do smoke pipes. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong generation, though it wasn't that long ago that you could still smoke in most places here in the US. It has been proven that nicotine helps you concentrate, something I experienced myself while writing. A pipe gives you a smaller dose of nicotine (or at least slows the rate of absorption compared to cigarettes), and I've spent many hours of writing while puffing on my favorite tobacco.

Used to smoke a pack-a-day back in the '90s. Quit when I turned 30. I think I'll start with Reckless Faith... I like to get every part of the backstory and hooks from other books.

That's me, the lifelong E4! :D
This picture was taken in the Czech Republic last year, at my best friend's wedding. It was a unique time in my life when I had enough free time to go, and the money to afford it (I ended up spending $2100 for an eleven day trip). I wanted a new author photo, and since I brought my Air Force uniform for the ceremony, I was going for an "American GI in post-war Europe" kind of flavor.
Here's where they had the ceremony; my author pic is on the back stairs:

I'm just bumping this thread to say that I finally got my initial stack of books from my publisher, so if anyone wants a signed copy let me know. They're $12 shipped to the CONUS. Of course, you can still get the print and Kindle versions on Amazon, but the signed copies are shipped by me.

If I took that sort of medication, I could write several books a year. I'd also have to buy adult diapers and nobody would ever visit me.

I went from a C+ Student in High School to making A- in College/Tech School when i started taking it from my doctor. Some people disagree with the medication but it hasn't done any harm to me. I am still my normal self, i can concentrate a whole lot easier now.

Right. I understand, if you take too much MG of it you could probably feel what you were describing lol. No need to abuse it though, its pointless.

I am proud to announce that the Reckless Faith Trilogy is now available for the Kindle. First time readers will be able to buy all three books (in excess of 1200 pages) for only $3.99, and returning readers will find a streamlined and enhanced story arc.
If you're new to the story, it involves humans adapting alien technology to create a warship. They load it up with the best weaponry they can find at the time that they can reasonably expect to operate, including the GAU 8/A 30mm and GAU 19/A .50 cal weapons systems.

Thank you to everyone who purchased a copy yesterday! It was a very successful launch day and I'm very encouraged.
I was messing around with the settings and I think I accidentally took the book offline for a few hours today. If you tried to order it, and the order didn't go through, please try again. Also, please report any errors or anomalies you may find, and which device you were using. The book looks perfect on my Kindle app for the PC but there are a few minor formatting problems on my Samsung Galaxy Tablet. I would be curious to know if others see the same problems.
Fortunately, it is just an issue with double tab spacing on some new paragraph lines, and isn't too distracting (I hope). It only appears about halfway through the book so I missed it on launch day. I am not sure yet how to fix it; trial-and-error editing in this case is a tedious process: Edit original document -> Upload to Amazon for conversion -> Download converted document to PC and Tablet -> Review document on each platform -> Upload fixed document to go live on Amazon.
It was also brought to my attention that there was a spelling error in the book description. It figures after the umpteenth time of scouring a 350,000-word document for errors that I would screw up the description.
-
Just stumbled upon this thread a few minutes ago. Never thought I would find the author of Tarantula Nebula posting on these boards. Small world. Anyways, I haven't read any of your books but I have seen them at a few bookstores and was considering picking them up sometime. Once I finish up with reading the books I have now, I will definitely move over to yours next up! :salute

I bought the trilogy when this thread was new, but I haven't had the time to read any of it yet. However I have suggested it to a number of my friends.

That would explain why I was forced to read the Glossary and Tech Manual until last night when the books became available. I just read a few chapters during lunch and so far enjoy it. I assume it'll be expounded upon later, but the towel scene left me believing Ari has a nice set of ta-ta's :O .
-
D'oh! I don't know why it did that, the only thing I did was add credit to the cover artist on Amazon. I apologize for the disruption. It's odd that you could access some of the document, but not all of it. I hope you realized there were major spoilers in the Tech Manual section. Like, huge, important plot points...
You can use your imagination on my characters all you want. :D If it helps, I had Jolene Blalock as my mental picture of Ari (Enterprise was on the air at the time). From a literary perspective, mentioning that a character is attractive is meant to help explain the reaction other people may have to them. Also, this:

Just a quick update, the Reckless Faith Trilogy has been my most successful new title launch ever. In only 12 days it has already reached 50% of the sales of The Fox and the Eagle, which has been out for more than a year! As a self-published author, with only his fans to help spread the word, this is very encouraging.
Thank you to everyone who purchased either book throughout the duration of this thread. As always, signed copies of the physical books are available at cost directly from me. Please let me know if you want any.
Disclaimer: I have never shipped a signed book overseas, so I don't know if it would be cost effective for anyone outside of the US to request one. If it makes a difference, I would be willing to sell below cost just to get you the book. I would rather you had it in your hands than I make a couple of bucks.

For the Zerowing quotes, I'm glad you caught the reference. :D I guess it's a fading meme; I suggested that we use it as our new squadron motto in my Air Guard unit and only two people out of 40+ understood the reference (or at least admitted to knowing it). Of course, I suggested we use Latin, as is typical for a military motto. Translating bad English into Latin was about as much fun as it sounds, but I came up with Omnis tui substructio sunt sunt ad nobis.
As far any unintentional spelling errors, if you find any, definitely PM me and let me know where. The Kindle master document can be edited at any time, and I can submit corrections quite easily.
