Title: CH Pedal Test
Post by: nrshida on November 24, 2012, 11:55:10 PM
Could another CH pedals owner do a small test for me please, to confirm. Even when freshly calibrated, it seems that the brakes (the tilting pedals) only operate in the second half of movement. If you go to the Windows calibration program, the little cross stays at the stop, then with the pedals halfway depressed the cross jumps to the middle and then has analogue movement from there.

Does anyone else have the same findings?

Hey Shida,

I have full range from relaxed to fully engaged on my CH pedals.   They are listed as the X and Y axis in Windows.

Have you taken them apart recently to clean them?    They are a real bear to get back together just right and not offset any of the axis.

Thanks for helping Pand.  :salute

It's a bit weird then, they don't act like they are faulty because both the right and left brake behave the same as each other and consistently, no spiking or jumping, just the bottom half of the analogue movement is essentially missing. I get this in percentages, movement in the left column, data in the right:-

  0 - 0
 10 - 0
 20 - 0
 30 - 0
 40 - 0
 50 - 50
 60 - 60
 70 - 70
 80 - 80
 90 - 90
100 - 100

I did take them apart about a year ago just for a photo inspection when a friend's broke, but they've worked flawlessly since.

This isn't one of those CH settings things is it? I've never used their software, just calibrated in Windows, then the game.

I checked mine in windows as well and see the full range of motion in the "X" and "Y" window. Maybe a reinstall of the controller will clear it up.

I believe hes talking about in the game under map controllers, but as your having the issue in the windows setup I don't think that will help. Did you try unplugging them uninstalling, reboot the computer and reinstall them? You might have just picked up a glitch.

Shida, here are screenshots of what my [CH PRO PEDALS USB properties-Test tab] look like when I depress the left pedal.

You need to solve the problem in windows before you deal with any AH input issues.  If yours don't look like this, then try the following:

A.  Run the calibration (sure you've already tried this).

B.  Remove the Device
   1.  Go into device manager and REMOVE the device
   2.  Unplug the USB Pedals
   3.  Reboot your computer
   4.  Plug in your Pedals and test again.

C.  Manual test of POT
   1.  Take the Pedals apart
   2.  Locate and find the POT for the left or right brake (be very careful taking apart, and remember where everything goes, and the guides for wires, etc).
   3.  Take the POT out of its mount, and twist it manually
   4.  While twisting, watch the test Tab to see if you have full range of motion.  If you do, then make sure the mount is working properly.
   5.  When putting it back together, make sure all the wires are in the right guides, and do not over-tighten the screws on the back as it can restrict the movement of the Z axis freely.

Good Luck!  :salute

Yup, mine basically misses image two and goes straight from 1 to 3 on both channels.

I will follow the instructions and then test again.

Many thanks for the instructions and images, most helpful  :salute

I found the fault, it is most peculiar. When I tested the pedals in OS X all was well, functioning as it should. So I booted into Windows and re-calibrated: faulty. Next I clicked 'restore to default' and the problem went away. Re-calibrated again and the problem reappeared. So basically it is the Windows calibration that is messing it up. Odd.

Thanks for the help fellas.  :salute

Make sure you've downloaded the latest CH Control Manager and calibrate your pedals within Control Manager (latest version only allows calibration within CM) and then test it.  Sounds like it's a possible registry issue.

Well thats your problem there, you should get a real machine, instead of trying to trick your Mac into think it IS one.   :devil

My Mac is uber, I can run Windows as a small safe enclosed desktop application. I'd like to see Windows do that with OS X  :old:

Zack installed Linux because he thought it was a bit torrent program for dirty movies  :rofl

I don't think I've ever bothered to install that program. I'll take a look, thanks  :salute
