Title: Tracers working as intended?
Post by: tunnelrat on December 07, 2012, 10:48:03 AM
With tracers off, the client doesn't see its own tracers in a buff or GV (Machineguns, light cannons), but the enemy still can; However, gunners in both the GVs and the Buffs (who have their tracers off) do not show to the enemy.

Is this how it is supposed to work?  It seems like either there is an issue with not being able to see your own tracers while the enemy still can (when gunning your own GV/Buff), as either the tracers should be there or not (although it can be nice to not have them in the way), or the dedicated gunners not having tracers is an oversight.

Alternatively, maybe this is by design as a nasty surprise for those who can coax a tracerless gunner to join them to spring on the enemy.

Just wondering which it is.

I tested tracers off in buffs and here is what I found.  If you fire only from the position you are in, the tracers are off.  If you "fire all", tracers will be seen from the other positions.

By seen, I mean you and the red guy.

GV, not sure

A little bit off topic.....I would love to have customizable tracer options based on what you are Flying/Driving. Each Plane or Vehicle getting its own option that the game would remember. Maybe just have a "Tracers" checkbox when you go to choose your armament.

Tracers only get disabled from the aircraft you're in; bomber drones will still show their tracers to everyone. Mannable field guns (namely the 37mm) will always show their tracers to friends and enemies; only you see them as disabled. I can't remember if AA-GV tracers turn off properly or not, however I do know that other players' Ostwinds will fire far too any tracers (making them look like Wirblewinds) and that, unless it was fixed in some patch notes I missed, tracers will still show for other players if you attempt to fire from a disabled AA-GV turret. So, next time your turret gets popped in your 'Wind, turn your engine off and pull the trigger at the bad guys and watch them flop around thinking your engine's disabled instead. I've actually saved troops for a base capture by scaring an F4U-4 off like that before.
