End of the day on the line at George AFB:
Note how 'un-shiny' they were when flown every day all day.
You could always tell when they were out of hydrastic fluid ..they stopped leaking.

They had just changed out number 4 and it needed a test hop, and Bill was the cheif test pilot for Evergreen..
So Bill comes over and asks: 'You want to go up in the '17?'
As If.

Circling Picacho Peak near Tucson a very short time later.

Left waist position ..on a fine summer day very long ago.

First time I ever got into a Mustang ..
Bill told me to take my boots off because they'd scratch the aluminum.

Preflight ritual ..a man communing with his machine with Harry helping

..then .. it's Go Time!

Pilot said even with all the modern day aerodynamic 'tricks' ..the plane had to be flown onto the runway
..a wheel landing as it is called ..
due to the maximum flare angle not being anywhere close to the 3 point stance ..she'd snap roll in a blink he said ..
..he demonstrated on one of the many flyby's he did ..just an awesome lil hot rod.

Rare Bear .. just an ultimate piston engine hot rod

One of the birds I acually worked on when I was at George AFB long ago.. now it looks about how I feel most days.

Was the Crazy Horse ride during the 96 AW Con Frank?  I remember being horribly jealous.  :D
And your Thud has a mouth that was close to the G model one I saw in Georgia, but it had no eyes and was a bit larger.
Very very nice collection of memories there  :aok

I remember seeing the Gee Bee in Sussex NJ back during the 90s...maybe 94?  If I remember correctly they had to
bolt the canopy closed before takeoff.  You are so lucky to live on the left coast  :airplane:

I hang out in Phoenix Metro area ..useda get out more is all :)
You know what's weird ..most of those photo's I took before I discovered Air Warrior.
Been an airplane nut for as long as I can remember.
I remember standing next to a B-52 main landing gear wheel
when I was like ..12 or so .. and watchin a Delta Dagger do the aerobatics that day
long ago at Offut AFB ..the guy got out and my Dad introduced him, bright orange flight/G-suit, white helmet
..he looked like a spaceman.
Was totally hooked.

IIRC, that F-86 is that one that was at the Champlain Fighter Museum at Falcon Field?  I'm also in the PHX area, in Mesa.

Yes I believe so .. a few of us Air Warrior types spent a day down there shootin pix
another day I took my Dad down there ..he said he qualified on most of the US Army guns they had on display,
..even the Howitzer ..one of the few good days we had.
