Title: External Sounds volume levels
Post by: Hazard69 on December 08, 2012, 08:55:47 AM
I wish the external sounds volume level was tied to the corresponding internal volume levels set by user.

For e.g. If I reduce vehicle engine noise to say 10%, I should hear external GV engines at 10% too. This should help stop people from 'gaming the game' in various situations.

I don't think it would be too difficult to implement. We already have volume control system in game. Just asking to ensure external slider is tied to the corresponding internal sound slider.

I like it the way it is whether the enemy can hear me coming or not. Tiger IIs (it is said) never leave concrete so if I use a Tiger II I can have louder sounds for the other vehicles and the sliders wont matter. Most everyone adjusts the sounds so they can hear the sounds but still hear vox. If someone has to use the sound sliders as you suggest then they usually dont handle their airplane/gv well enough to survive anyway.

it was that way for about a month (a couple years ago?), then people whined so hard because they couldn't turn their own engines down, hitech changed it back to the way it is now..

If I remember correctly , you can no longer hear some ones engine running if your engine is running. I.E. turning down you engine volume does not help hear the other person correct?

Maybe he had a bad moment in an airplane and used a bad analogy?  :D

He might mean something like setting a global option for specific noises.  The problem I think he means is that players can turn down all of their internal sounds and absoutly crank up the volume of external sounds.
So when i drive my tank around the volume is tolerable.  But if I shut my engine off I have greatly increased "my ability" to hear my enemies if I play with the settings.

So The wish might be for a balance of sounds, so that a player can not boost advantageous sounds in an effort to gain an advantage.

You can already do that without touching any sliders. Just saying.

as HT said what does it matte rif you have your engine turned off? You can simpy go back into controls and turn engine sounds back up  once your sitting with engine off. It will make the 'listening' process longer but by what? 5 seconds? However I wouldn't object tieing them in since I usually turn em all down to hear vox anyway.

o.0 Didn't know that, sorry returning player here. Great job as usual. :aok  I assume that also carries forward to track sounds as well?  :salute

Nope actually I had a moment in GVs where I was sitting behind a mound, and could see a tank roll by me from the commander's view. Went to gunners view to find that I was a little short of ground clearance. So started up, just to move a little bit further up the mound. As soon as I did that the enemy GV stopped, turned towards me and got me. After a few more similar occurrences I thought they were hearing me start up while rolling themselves. Guess its just their better SA.

What I was suggesting is that both internal and external volume levels be linked, so that if I lower my engine or track sounds, the enemy GVs are also automatically reduced.

But nvm, I guess HTC's already covered it.

Hmm has anyone tested if you can hear a START UP as your engine is on as it is a different setting then the engine or treads maybe you can hear that. also the smoke from the start up may have givin you away.

You easily hear a startup or tanks running when they are close (in film viewer).

I just tried it online. You cannot hear it at 500 yds.

you can still hear the other planes engine and the direction of travel.  I have a 5.1 headset and I can clearly hear when somebody is approaching from behind.  not sure about distance since I normally try to evade before I look.
