"Cundall also has government permission to excavate Spitfires at two other sites, at Meiktila in central Burma and at Myitkyina in Kachin State.
He believes that that there are six crated Mark 8 :O Spitfires at Meiktila. These are the rarest Spitfires in the world, with only one flying example remaining."
He thinks the buried planes will be in good condition. “They are all brand new, all the boxes are tarred. They are on massive teak timbers to assist the drainage, there is a wooden roof over them to protect them,” he said. :x

Spit14s, yes... but this is the first time I heard about Spit8s. :aok

Nope. It's old news in Spitfire circles. Most folks are of the 'we'll believe it when they actually find a crate and open it up.

I was under the impression that they have been indisputably found and that the only issue lies in getting permission from the government to excavate them and transport them to wherever they may go?

They have permission, digging starts next month.
The best info they have is one camera through a bored hole showing something that may look like a Spitfire and several radar images showing something that conducts electricity. :aok
