Title: Stereoscopic 3D!
Post by: Torquila on December 11, 2012, 02:28:10 PM
Can we please have stereoscopic 3d?

Something like youtube uses so we can configure our sets to use side-by-side: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2eJkrgSwPY
(Actually this is the best 3d ive seen so far (short animated feature) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJjJeYfAwQw).

Its pretty rad!

I want Aces High to support the Oculus Rift:

http://www.oculusvr.com/

I know the resolution isn't great, but I would still buy one to use with AH once it is released.

Yea, I ponied up for one of those dev kits; though I feel like its a bit of a scam now  :uhoh!

Stereoscopic 3d would allow for a whole wave of devices to be used with AH! Not just my worn out ol' HMZ-T1!

I am interested in why it is a scam now.  I am not saying you're wrong, just that I'd like to know why you say that.

I dunno, bro; just got the 'feel if you know what I mean, It might of come from looking at the video (The engineer looked like a complete gob/yesman) and their entire focus on Carmac's testimony *alone* (For the site, I remember the unreal guys spouting some stuff in the video as they always love to).

Also mainly because they don't have any decent contact info and they don't seem to respond to requests on their paypal registered one either!

Not to mention, the entire design is like something from a demented 80's tron arcade game wannabe with a low budget and too much plastic. <--- Sony has me biased :D

I have eDimensional 3D glasses.  They work with the game just fine.  I don't use 'em, cuz they take away more than they add.  MHO

You cant make things work for a game, properly, that doesn't support them.

If you did want to simulate how proper stereoscopic 3d would look, you would have to have two sessions of AH2 running, offsetting the camera in the cockpit to the left and the right on each and then sending each picture to the 3d system you are using.

Just using 3d glasses with a hackey kinda addon is like fillin a formula 1 car with petrol from your average gas station.

Using glasses is nothing like using a proper headset! I might have to pony up for some pricey malt to convince HT of this one :_(

I dunno the magic that happens to make the ED glasses work - they hook in at the graphics driver level I believe, and they do make AH display two time-interlaced images from the left-eye, right-eye perspective, which are then channeled to your eyes with synchronized LCD shutters.  However the LCDs don't go completely dark, so there is some left-right crosstalk, and you lose 50% of your screen brightness.  In return you get a true 3D feel for your cockpit, which is cool.  However you only get depth perception out to about 10 meters even in the real world, so very rarely do you get a 3D sense for anything else, and it doesn't help you in any way.  I find TrackIR indispensable for situational awareness and immersion, but 3D is just a nice-to-have.

That said, with my snazzy new(ish) monitor, maybe I should hook 'em up again and see how they do with the brightness cranked all the way up.

Cheers!

Hey, just found a video for a game that uses 3d quite well, and that suits it as well!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8IqjzzHgSk

Check it out, its for mechwarrior online, which is a new f2p title!

It shows you how much of an effect 3d can have on a game!
