Very nice Widow :aok

Very cool..... and with the teardrop gun pkg on top. They had so much trouble with buffeting caused by the swivel gun pkg on the real birds.

They figured that out but I forget what the fix was.
Sweet model by the way :aok

The fix was the stationary guns in a teardrop. Many had the whole thing removed and a fuel tank installed in it's place.

I saw a video of some French blokes using a Logitech force feedback joystick to fly RC planes :old:
Fantastic plane, is it perked :)
-
That is great!!! Please keep us updated! :rock :salute

They also reduced it from 4 guns to 2 I believe. P-61B-15 was the 4 .50cal version.

P-61B-15 Turret with four 0.50 in (12.7 mm) machine guns; 153 built.
P-61B-16 Turret armament reduced to two machine guns; six built.
P-61B-20 New General Electric turret with four machine guns; 84 built.

That makes sense. Apparently reducing down to 2 didn't do the trick so a new turret was manufactured to negate the issue.

we need one of these in the game :aok
will post pics as he sends them

Good luck. I've attempted to bribe HTC with booze, pizzas, etc since 2000. Ask Pyro. :)

15 years... Is he going to fly it? What if it crashes?!
-
Was this a kit or was it home built (plans/parts cut by your dad)?
I ask because I want to know how he got the canopy/plastic parts? (did he find someone who made them then design the plans around the scale of those parts?)
-
Really cool stuff there. It's great your Dad builds them the old school style. What is he using for engines? The one pic looked like a small .40 size or something like that.
-
Guess im the only one who noticed the turtle in the background :lol

he bought the plans for it from Don Smith, Smith also makes the fiberglass cowls and canopies not sure what else he does that is premade for it, but its all plans built.

It was designed around 1.20s but I THINK he is using DLE 55 gasoline engines
they have 2 sulcata tortoises that weigh almos 100lbs apiece. :lol didnt even notice them in the pics
he has built two 1/5 scale p-40s, a 1/4 scale jug, 2 1/5 scale spitVs, 2 fw190a8s, and a big corsair.couple others he has done.

sad thing is is that he doesnt even fly, he just builds and has friends fly them :lol
-
That's OK, hes just a crew chief then. :salute ;)
At least people get to fly and enjoy them, and more important, they bring them back in one piece.

Nice job on the PT-19, we just finished some extensive maintenance at my local museum on one that looks exactly like it.

I don't think the fuel tank option was used that much. I'll have to go dig my book out but I do remember a pic of a Generals bird that was unpainted and it did have the fuel tank.

nah she made him finish part of the garage to build in now, but the first p40 he built was a widow maker. my mom is picky about the cleanliness of her house and when he was sanding on it the dust would get on everything and she used to say she hated that plane lol.
