Title: DA Etiquette/Protocol question.
Post by: RipRap on December 12, 2012, 07:49:24 AM
I was planning on going into the DA today to work on my fighter skills (ACM,SA). I have never flown in the DA so I am not sure on the rules of engagement. Do i just fly in and start going at it with whomever I can (obviously if there is a 1 v 1 going on, I'd stay out), or do I call out a fight request? Just wondering, so not to offend anyone or unwittingly earn a negative reputation with the folks that fly the arena regularly.

In the furball  lake area you can jump into any fight. One on ones are not left alone there unles the guy asks you to stay out, even them they may not listen. When your off at one of the other bases it is ussally for challenges and 1 on 1s

Over furball lake (the circular lake bordered by 3 bases at 5k altitude, one for each country), anything goes.

Furball lake anything goes.

If you want to one on one just ask on 200 if anyone's willling.  You'll usually get a taker then just pick a field set away from the lake.

Does the DA figure in on scoring?

DA lake good for practicing reversals. Fly low and slow and wait for helpful volunteers to dive on you.

In terms of web-page press and MA perk points, no.  In fact, most MA perk-rides are free of cost in the DA.

PS - yes, HOing over furball lake is allowed (and gonna happen) - ignore the 4-hogs and tempest drivers griping about not thinking of it first (or doing a better job).

I have found it very hard to find a 1 on 1 duel in the DA in the past,i found its more like Mini Main Arena.

It depends on the time of day and the quality/mood of the characters in the arena. Usually when it's low pop (around 16 people) you'll get more 1v1s and people will sometimes tell their countrymen to stay out of the fight. later in the day (U.S. Time that is) there's more people on and you either find people working on wingman skills in there or the flock of seagull "Mine, mine, mine!" attitude. However, all of it teaches you and it is a very fun arena to get some good sticktime in a bird as you'll be forced to deal with all sorts of situations sooner than you would within the MA.

I'd suggest trying not to HO just because most people find it rude, but it's going to happen and what exactly constitutes as a HO is sometimes debateable (frustrated pilots will call a HO on high angle off tail attacks from time to time). With that said, I'm always told that it takes two pilots to allow a HO to happen.

At the end of the day, just go by the Golden rule and try not to take anything too personal when someone else is rude, just shoot them down first next time :old:

I avoid the HO at all costs. I had enough time to fly 3 sorties the other day (lost em all). The first sortie i faded way left on the initial merge (to avoid being HO'd), to my detriment the seperation allowed the 190 to fall right in behind me, dead 6 and boom towered. On the 2nd & 3rd (I think pilots name was sarcelle) we were co-alt he was in LA-7 and me in C-205. I assumed that he would go for clean merge and thankfully i was right. This time i kept the merge tighter, and went into a left bank shallow dive to gain some E vs. the LA, i lasted slightly longer, slightly. Even though i got my butt handed to me, i still had fun & after reviewing the video, picked up on my mistakes.

Anyway, thanks for tips &  :salute to sarcelle.
