I get the impression that they were very popular with the baby boomer generation but had faded away by the time I started reading comics in the 90's.
I don't even remember seeing war comics in the comic book shop I went to. The closest thing would have been Deathblow which didn't run long but was one of my favorites.

:rock :rock :rock
Seeing the price on the comics reminds me of when I was even younger and thought that we charged Canadiams more to read books.

I posted this in the action hero thread, its from about 1976 iirc, (note 25p - and this was the bumper summer special edition!), dont think it made it to the 80s even.

You should check out "War Story" by Garth Ennis.

Each issue was a self contained story. "Johann's Tiger" was my favorite.

I always enjoyed these

There were a few different ones when I was a kid (70's), but the only one I can remember by name is "Sgt. Rock".
-
I remember several comics about WW2. One featured a tank, the Stuart light tank and had it in tons of episodes. I also recall the Sgt Rock comic. There were others including fighter based issues. May just have been same comic just covering different aspects of the war. It's been too long now to remember clearly.

Sgt. Rock is the best there ever was. I'd scour the comics rack at every grocery store for new ones when I was a kid. There's a movie in the works.

It's a DC Comics publication. Don't know if they sell in UK or not.
