I dont know if this is a case of the body rejecting the feather or the feather just working its way out. The quill of that feather has to be pretty small so maybe was able to puncture through?

Or the quill actually punctured the kids neck and eventually worked itself out.

I find the only really amazing thing here is the kids gag reflex didnt seem to help out much at all, you'd think it would be more sensitive in babies  as that's when we need it the most.
