Title: what just happened?
Post by: caldera on January 03, 2013, 04:24:22 PM
Got discoed and was back online in 30 seconds and was greeted by this:

There wasn't an imminent threat at the time.  At least nothing within icon range, except a Yak that was lower and busy with two friendlies.
When I hit the water, the system message was "You have been killed", not "Some lucky sumofabunch shot you down".
I thought if you were killed, it would keep you in the tower.  What kind of noob AI do we have that bails out the second your back is turned?
Is this the first case of friendly CV puffy ack shooting down an AWOL airplane?   :headscratch:

AI did a very similar thing to my fresh 262 about a week or so ago.  :cry

I have to wonder if it has to do with your AoA/Speed/Alt...

When the AI takes over it probably tries to (violently) bring itself immediately to its ordered parameters... if in doing so, it puts the plane out of controlled flight, I bet it says ALRIGHT, I'M OUT!

Maybe it does.  Killed a 190 that discoed last night.  First he vanished and then reappeared about 2k from where he was.  I killed him within 15-20 seconds, so even if you can get back online quickly, the AI has you going so slow that anyone in icon range can probably get to you.

When they made this auto drone thing they should have made your plane invisible during AI so your not a flying target.I would rather just d/c.

I couldn't agree more, always nice to come back from disco to have prop starting back up and enemies now on me that weren't before; slow and ded.

Because that would never possibly be abused...

I really love the reconnect for one life stuff like FSO, at least you've got a chance of coming back to a functioning plane.  For MA play, I don't think it's as useful.

Last tour, I was chasing bombers near the strat and POOF!  Came back, tracked him down and got all three.

It does work, but the plane should fly at whatever speed you were going (that could be maintained in normal level flight).
The AI pilots fly noticeably slower.  Does anyone know what is the set speed for AI planes?

Making the plane invisible would encourage "accidental" discos from people in trouble.
