I must say i'm getting the hang of it :)
Had some terrible mistakes and already some awesome fights, escapes and the frustrations of fail.
It was like yesterday.
I programmed my weapons change button on the joystick but suddenly found my self pushing the backspace button..uh ..ooh i didn't forget that after all.
My trial period is almost over and sure am going to conscription. I like the gameplay there is nothing else like this.

Impossible. :old:
I'm now in my 8th year of getting told that gameplay "totally went downhill" and "is as bad as never before". :noid

Thanx i flew with a P38 group Blixen,Laser,Tac and more i forgot.
I flew some time il2 off course also with the P38 but here in AH I'm so much better in it :)
There is allot to discover yet but I'm mostly glad that i get the feeling back in the P38 which i learned in this game many years ago.
I also see the the late war arena is still the main arena and the others are still quite.
The general channel can now only be used as <S> channel it was always amusing me in the past but I guess its better this way

Tune 200 if you're looking for similar usage to what general was. It was probably changed so people could turn it off if they liked.
Welcome back!

There's an idea, Htc should conscript more customers. So much easier than advertising.

That's cuz the 38 in Il2 sucked from what I remember. Had 3 flap settings.

138 is the SAPP P38 drivers channel Bug. You can usually find the 38 drivers on there if you are looking for a wingman.

Welcome back Bug, from the 94th!
We've been bitten by the Twin Tail bug ourselves. If you feel like flying the 38's still, and want to fly with others, feel free to stop by Rooks channel 194. :salute

Welcome back Bug...wow 10 years, don't seem possible. :salute

Welcome back Bug322. Has it really been that long? I still remember some good P47 on P38 engagements we had. Seems like it was last week.
-
i guess not really 10 years but close i dont know exactly when i started in AH1.
First there was a very hard flight model.
There where times Hitech announced 2 P47 in the arena with the Brazilian skin those where magic days.
I might have stopped when my oldest daughter was 2 years old so it could be 8 years.

Welcome back!
You'll find that everything from how planes handle all the way down to gunnery itself has changed. Over the years the airflow code was revamped, as well as how bullets hit planes (not sure of the exact details on that one, just the noticable results -- it felt like there was a "hit bubble" before, and now it doesn't, so you have to get in closer to get hits and land kills).
It really is one of the best games available, even after more than a decade! It's amazing to think of it in that respect.

I'm thinking about getting back in after 7 or so years. I need some hardware tough. I use to use a MS sidewinder2 joystick. It is not window 8 compatible. I want a force feedback stick that won't take me a month to setup..... preferably one I can just download an aces high profile. Any suggestions?

I haven't looked for a stick in years, but I don't think anyone makes one these days. Sad, I liked them, but I liked my Saitek X56 better. Way more advantage with it's programming and throttle abilities than with Sidewinders FF and few buttons.

Weird I have the MS Sidewinder 1 and it's fully windows 8 compatible. Drivers are built in the OS.

Thanks, I'll the the x52 a shot I guess. Keeping the Box.

52, doh. Been two years since I played :frown:
The 52 is great, If you set it up right, you can do everything easily and instinctively after you get used to it. It would be nice if they made them in FF but like I said the advantages of the 52 outweigh the Sidewinder FF. I also got rudder pedals and liked them much better than the twist stick after getting used to them.
If you get the 52 and need a profile there are plenty of guys in game that have them. Shawk has played a long time and has used the Saitek sticks for years. He might be the best source for profiles.
Good luck.

After XP, gameport is no longer supported. So if your sidewinder was gameport only (like mine) it will not be usable in Win7 (which is why I had to upgrade to a USB stick). Not all sidewinders allow a USB adapter. Mine didn't. It was a nice stick, but there are probably better. X52 would be more capable, I believe.

I went through 3 x52's in less then 3 years....Saitek sux arse...although their peddles are good...
CH fighter stick...had it for 3 years.....129$ money well spent.

Yea, they aren't built to take the abuse CH does. I personally don't like the CH set up as well. I found that my x52 was as near perfect layout as you could get.
Definately if your priority is longevity, then CH will last longer for the usage.

I am still using my original X52 throttle :D
I had to wrap a bunch of electrical tape around the CH stick so it was more comfortable to reach the castle view....I did switch the hat view to the 4 way hat under the castle hat at first but that started giving me issues, so I went back to the castle for views and then had to tape it up....
I do like certain features the 52 has.....adjustable hand rest
I also think I am not "easy handed" that being the reason why I went through so many 52's

You would think a newer model would allow an adapter because even my prehistoric PP1 works with the USB adapter.

ALOT has changed. i was gone 2 1/2 years came back and said WTF what is white flag? the towns are awesome and i hate the brewser. lol after a month or so i was back in the saddle like i never left. welcome home

You can't just stick an adapter on it. It changes a number of things from gameport to USB, including the timing clock of the signals as well as the voltages in use. The USB chip has to be built into the main circuit board, even if the adapter isn't in use.
There was one or two lines of the Sidewinder that did not have this USB capability. Thus, they would not work with the USB adapter at all. Mine happened to be one of those lines. Luck of the draw, I suppose.

Welcome back Bug
It's just like riding a bike :) only its a flying bike, with guns.

welcome back bug. :)
the thing stood out the most when i came back was that shooting off a single horizontal stabilizer no longef results in the other coming off too. i also had no idda what people were talking about when i heard a log of chatter about white flags over vox

New towns (for base capture) require X percent of the town to be down. The nation that owns the base will have their flag flying over the maproom. When X percent has been destroyed, the flag turns white, indicating you can drop troops to capture it.
