No one got elected this year for the first time since 1996. The ballot included Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Roger Clemens and Kurt Schilling.
Top 3 results (75% needed to get in):
Craig Biggio 68.2%
Jack Morris 67.7%
Mike Piazza 57.9%
Not totally surprising if you ask me.

Schilling should have gotten in, imo. His postseason win percentage combined with his 4-5 year run of domination was enough for me.
Piazza and Biggio were borderline, but I'd err on the side of no... first ballot anyway.

Good. Trammel and Lee Smith I thought should have made it.

I guess I agree with that, except that as I've always understood it, being a first ballot guy seems to mean you were a little more special than the average HOF'er. I tend to put Schilling in that group because he was money when it mattered most.

Yeah... I just now started to read about all that. I'll admit to being a terrible baseball fan in the last several years. I really haven't paid close attention. Outside of obvious moral transgressions though, I'm not sure I jive with things like that keeping him out. The dude was usually lights out in the biggest games. That's supposed to be what it's all about.

Im hoping Jack Morris gets in. I think he deserves it. The others.... I can see Biggio, Piazza, and Schilling eventually. It would not break my heart to see Bonds shunned, he is a disgrace to the game. Clemens and Sosa are not far behind.

I agree 100%. I think the reason he was passed over is he lifetime ERA (3.90), it would have been the highest ERA of any HOF pitcher. Maybe next time.

When you look at the roster of names that were enshrined in the first baseball HOF class, in some cases it makes a fan
think that the HOF is becoming a collection of near great also. Its hard to not vote for your favorite. At least the baseball
HOF doesn't trot 5 to 7 players in per year no matter what. Baseball has a deeper history and longer one then any
professional american sport. Up until the 70s it was America's sport. I love football also. But baseball will always be
my personal favorite. I guess I may have a better understanding of the game, know how to watch the game and appreciate
its' history more then most sports fans. Even though I live in the state that started pro football and it's HOF is 45 minutes away,
baseball will always be my favorite.

I'm not a baseball fan anymore.
But I kinda wished that Dale Murphy would have made it. Only because I've had some personal interactions with him and he is a super nice stand up guy. He was also a pretty decent hitter BEFORE the steroid age.
