A thought just popped up in my head, not sure if it is doable or worth the while of work.. But imagine if the troops was carrying machineguns and could defend themselves within a given range, and could do some amount of damage to enemy vehicles that came within that range.
It would for sure make the hiding in the maproom killing the troops game alot more interresting. :P

What's a machine gun going to do to a tank?

same thing that your 13 year old napalm wish can do to a tank.

It would not do anything to a tank, but why can't they atleast pretend to be putting up a fight?! :P
I mean, they are just running there. How realistic is that? I would not risk my life running into a base if I was a troop and did not even have a machinegun to defend myself, I'll even throw in a wish for grenades then, just for your tanks. ;)
I know it will probably never happen, but I just had to throw out the idea.. :D

Napalm would fry a tank, especially a WW2 era tank in which most likely the crew would suffocate because of the super heated air going into their lungs. If they survived that, then they would cook alive in the tank if they weren't able to escape.

I think it would be cool if they had an animation that would show them firing their guns as they are entering the map room, like their assaulting and clearing out the room.

They should have some sort of way to defend, at least against a jeep hauling tail out to get them.

Or kill downed piolts in the map room.....

How about 5 hand grenades that you could throw into tank windows or at some of the lighter armoured ground vehicles. You could sit near a map room and throw grenades at troops also.
-
Well as soon as HTC gets that FPS element finished these types of wishes will be moot.

You'd have to drop a grenade down the commander/gunner hatch if you wanna get it into a tank. The front view port where the driver sits isn't big enough to fit a grenade in there. You could stick a Tommy Gun in there and spray like crazy - most likely sending 20 rounds of .45 caliber ammo right into the driver's face. Grenades in the exhaust/engine vents would probably cause problems too.

What could happen is the first guy in dies from the pilot while the next guy kills the pilot.....Just sayin......

I second this, it would give a better feeling of immersion

Depending on the tank and the country the grenade came from, wedging it in the view port could kill the driver from the concussion alone. But then you are still left with a tank that is immobile but hell bent on shooting anything that moves.

You'd have one hell of a run to do that. Running up to the tank while the co-driver/radio operator isn't shooting at you with the hull gun, the gunner isn't spraying you down with the coax gun (This is actually possible) or the main gun isn't aimed at you (also possible) and taking the time to jam the 'nade in the view port is a long task. If the driver sees the grenade he could easily push it back out before it goes off - granted he has quick enough reflexes - and live. You'd have more success with sticking the barrel of your gun in and ripping that driver a new dimension in his mind with a bit of high-powered rifle rounds or a lot of pistol rounds at a fast pace.

you forget the driver can just run you over.

And with that being said, I would like to nominate WARBEAST to be our official grenade runner. May we pray for his safe return... :rofl
Sorry, I couldn't keep a straight face on that one.

That too. But who's faster? A tank that is coming from a stop, (assuming that's where he was when the whole grenade to the view port fiasco started) or a man who's got a running start from about 15 yards? If he was moving to begin with you'd be stupid to run up to it anyways.

Question: how is a soldier going to catch a tank doing 25mph, pull ahead of it, and shove the grenade up its view port while running? Bolt would have difficulties doing that.
-
Nothing to stop a guy creeping up on a parked up vehicle and attaching aa magnetic mine to it. That would make for a whole new requirement for the crew to be looking for infantry as well as other vehicles. Why not Panzerfaust/schrek?
