So I have and installed both a new MOBO and PSU, now when I turn it on, all the lights, fans, everything works for about 1 second, then shut back off, any idea what I've done wrong????
I've tried this with and without the vid. card in if it makes a difference, any help is appreciated, thanks :salute :salute :salute

No beeps? Sounds like dead ram except the mobo should beep for that.
-
I don't have anything to emit sound from installed though
PS: Not re applying the thermal glue to the CPU after switching it from that MOBO to this one would've had anything to do with it? right?
-
The motherboard has its own sound system that emits beeps. If there's no beeps, that means the PC is not booting at all. Double check every wire, are they connected? Worst case scenario, the PSU is not strong enough or dead. What's your specs?

CORSAIR 500w power sup..
ASUS M5A87L-M mobo
some random wires are not connected, theyre for higher end GPU's and stuff I believe though

Make sure the ram and all the parts are securely plugged in. It's possible to plug ram the wrong way for example. It has a slot preventing it but some sticks are flexible enough to lock even when offset. Make sure you have the extra 12V power feed plugged in for the motherboard. It's a 4-way connector or even 2 of them.

Unfortunately it starts to look like your computer burned up with the PSU. A dead cpu or ram would make the computer shut down in 1 sec.

Like Ripley said, try moving the ram sticks. Take one out, test each one at a time, and in different slots.

The power supply ran on the old mobo, it kept spinning until I turned it off. So Id guess it's not the PSU???
ram isn't backwords, just tried to flip it around, wouldn't fit.
I'll play around with the ram a bit....sigh....thanks guys,,,

Of course the new PSU will run - but if your old PSU blew it may have burned your CPU and ram too.

Yay, all is well. Helped Rednuts fixed it over Ventrilo. The metal screws were touching the metal case.

I would be worries about not reapplying thermal paste to your cpu. If it was me I would do it.

And don't spread the new paste with your fingers, all that grease, dirt and dead cells will decrease the effectivity of the paste.
