Was testing offline with the new release 2.29 p3.
T34 drone facing head on at 600 yds. Manned 88 using HE.
Hit the T34 just at the turret seam far left then far right as it front faced my gun. Each postion hit eventualy caused a lateral ricochet fountain that rotated 90degree vertical into a ricochet fountain at each postiton. Finally setteling into one single fixed vertical ricochet line that lasted as long as I didn't begin firing to cause ricochets again.
I caused a similare effect online last week firing a 17lb at a panzer.
Nice visual effect if you can cause it to happen.
-
Tried it again and now you hit the T34 dead center along the turret joint. The ricohcet shoots out horizontal evenly left and right about 40ft, then goes vertical and holds flickering about 40 feet high. Filmed it but, only shows in my screen realtime happening and nothing in the flim.
-
I first saw this with the Greebo terrain, so maybe has been with us since the achievements were introduced. Some of my squadmates had already seen it, so I thought it had been around a while.
-
Yes Ive seen it happen online as well. Its a pretty little light show, and I don't believe its limited to the T34 only.

Pics?

If I had to guess, I'd guess it is a glitch on your front-end and nobody else would see it for that instance other than you; since it doesn't show on film. Once the round hits an object, it is no longer "active" and not tracked by the coad - which is why you see people shooting through buildings and their rounds flying off for hundreds of yards.
-
I've seen it too, many time from shooting with the panzerIII L42 option, although from my point of view it looks like a vertical fountain as often as a linear one. To me the rounds are ricocheting-infinity/bugging from being trapped in that narrow seam between the turret and carage.

........although from my point of view it looks like a vertical fountain as often as a linear one...............
Precisely, to me it looked liked that panzer I just hit, suddenly turned into a ZSU-234 shilka and started shooting all over the place. Its like the tracer impacted, rotated about 5-8 times around its mid section and then flew off a second or two later.
Ill get a screenie next time I see it. Its still ALt+S for a screenshot right?

Ever since they shut down the MA last time to do the server update thing that has been happening, not just with T-34's, looks like a Jedi on the tanks with light sabers defending them.

I'm happy to report with 2.29 p4 that either round AP, HE, will cause the jedi light saber effect if hitting the front seam of the T34 turret. And you can also make it hold up two light sabers now. After that the rounds bounce out left or right in long light sabers and dissapere.
Wow we gettin a little back door Star Wars here.
Great visual effects and they go away when you kill the tank.
-
I was firing HE at a T-34-75 and seeing the same effect, but I don't think I hit the front seam every time.
I have this on film. It appears that the intention is to display a round disintegrating rather than getting any penetration. Hard to say why it sometimes persists instead of displaying and then disappearing. In film viewer it just spatters into tiny bits and then its gone.

These are screenshots from the encounter I mentioned in my last post.
You can see where I was shooting here:

This appears to show the round passing through the tank:

but also passing through at an angle:

Now it also shows the angle changing:

As well as striking the ground and exploding:

I believe the round in front of the T34 was fired by another tank, but the smoke and fire might add to the persistence. I could have slowed the film down even more, but I think this was enough to demonstrate what we are seeing. As fast as it happens it may appear to be a 'light-saber waving,' but when it happens to me it just looks odd. Film viewer does not portray it the same way.

Offline if I nail the wide seam between the base of the turret and the chassie, I can get two of those yellow plasma bolts to stand up vertical on either side of the turret. If I remember I'll screen shot it.
Update: Here's the T34 Light Saber.
