Title: Skins reviewed
Post by: Skuzzy on January 31, 2013, 12:30:29 PM
If you have had skins in the queue, check the skin admin page to see the status.

This review had some issues with duplicate submissions and/or some skins looking as though they were confused on what they really were.  We chose to err to caution and reject any questionable submissions.

From this point forward, we will be making the effort to review the skins on a daily basis.  This will help get you quicker feedback and hopefully cause less confusion for all.

I will be targeting a release of skins at the time of a new tour start.

Most excellent.

Can you give me any indication why my 109G-2 9./Jg54 was rejected?

Thanks as well Skuzzy, I had sent in the P40E Aleutian Tiger skin and know the first was botched .. but the second was indexed to 8bit.. was there something else I can do to get it fixed for your new tour start skin adds.

Thank!

When they started the review it was determined we needed to get through them.

I recall problems with various skins as follows;

1)  Multiple submissions of the same skin.  We cannot tell what is supposed to be the real one or the bad one, so we just rejected all the them.
2)  Skins with no panel lines.  If you review a skin with bump mapping enabled, the lack of panel lines is not as noticeable, but when you turn of bump mapping, the skins looked bad without panel lines.
3)  There was one skin which looked like it used white noise for the exhaust pipes of the plane.
4)  Multiple submissions of skins with only the serial number or fuselage number being different.  Sorry, but we really do not want to get into having the same skin taking up a lot of slots.
5)  One skin was a Finnish skin which was for a plane we do not have in the game.  We really try not to get into that as there could be a day when we have that plane model.
6)  There was a couple that were just confusing.  We could not tell if it was intended to be an update to a submission (please do not do that), or what.

I really want to encourage skinners not to submit updates of skins, for right now.  Soon, you will be able to.  Also note, once a skin is submitted, it CANNOT be updated until it is reviewed.  If it is in the submission queue, DO NOT submit it again.  That just compounds problems and will get your skin(s) rejected.

We understand why things were being done the way they were.  It was due to us being too slow to get skins reviewed, but that will not longer be the case.

Thank you.

Will we hear word when we can finally submit updated skins?

I hope so because my accepted 109G-2 has the incorrect bitmap.

Yes.  It is the next menu item to be added.

Was it one of those that was submitted multiple times?  In a couple of cases we guessed which skin was meant to be submitted and finally stopped that and rejected any skin that had multiple submissions.

You can still see what was accepted (log into the skinadmin page, click on the appropriate link in the "Accepted" list panel).  Are you saying the skin in the game is not what was accepted?  That would be a huge problem.

This is probably what happened, compounded by me making a typo on the name of one skin.

I had submitted 2 109G-2's, "9./Jg54" which is 2 tone green, and 8./Jg52(mislabled by me as 9./Jg52) which is green and gray. What we have in game now and what shows on the submissions page is the 2 tone green Jg54 skin under the title of 9./Jg52.

I guess the easy fix would be to remame the accepted skin 9./Jg54 and be done with it. Then I can resubmit the Jg52 skin with the correct title and bitmap.

I decided to work a bit more on my skin, I finished after three days and resubmitted it as a new skin... this is my first skin <crosses fingers>

Thanks all,

In the P47D-11 list there is one for the 49FG done by Larry that is listed twice for the same aircraft.

Not in the current release of skins.

If you are looking at the skins offline, that list can be inaccurate, unless you purge all your skins for each release of skins we do.  That is due to skins being moved around in the list due to submission errors, updates, and so on.

The current online list for the P47D11 does not contain two skins by Larry.

Offline, anything in your skins folder will show up in the hangar list.  If it does not match the online list, then you probably need to clean the skins folder out.

Only the released/approved skins show up online.

There is a file that updates when you go on line. I would think after installing it, log in a fly a bit after a few minutes the file should have updated and you should be able to use the skin.
