Title: Puffy ACK from CV improvment
Post by: Vinkman on February 04, 2013, 01:49:59 PM
Idea:
Turn the puffy ack off when friendly planes enter the puffy box.

Rationale:
No one like getting killed by friendly puffy ack when attacking enemy buffs which are on the way to sink a CV. But it's not realistic that the buffy only hits the enemy. This is problem because friendly planes are chased away from downing bombers because of friendly fire. To many it seems the puffy poses a bigger threat to friendly fighters, than it does to enemy buffs, which endagers the CVs instead of protecting them. If the fighters chose to attack the incoming planes, it makes sense that the ship ack would cease firing to prevent killing their own planes.

I think it keeps the realism, and eliminates the friendly fire problem.

thank you .  :salute

Except that CV gunners did shoot friendly aircraft - on many an occasion.   The problem being that it is kind of hard to identify an aircraft as being friendly or enemy in the middle of an AIR RAID.

A better solution would be to let the CV commander DESIGNATE a target for the puffy using the <tab> key and then have all the ack that bears on that target open up on it.

if we get red and green icons, then the auto puffy random number generator does too.

I hate getting killed by my own puffy too. I have come around to replanning how I attack bombers in my own puffy ack. When was the last time you complained about field ack shooting you?

Your idea is unrealistic and favors the defensive fighters over the offensive bombers. Bombers are already pretty much nothing more than targets (big ones) and are really easy to kill even in the puffy ack. Since everyone has the same odds of attacking bombers in puffy ack, then I don't think anything needs to change. How many times does this actually affect you in a month? Once? Twice?

Where is that dead horse graphic again?

An interesting contradiction. On th eone hand you say attacking buffs in ack is no big deal, then you say turning off the puffy gives an advantage to the fighters. If attack in the puffy is no big deal for fighters, then the buff face the double threat of fighters AND puffy. In that case, shutting off the puffy helps the buffs.
If the puffy is lethal to fighters, then shouldn't th edefending team get to choose which of there defenses is most effective? They can choose to let the puffy do it, or they can attack with fighters hence turning off the puffy.

But you seem to like, and be in favor of the idea of Friendly puffy defending incoming enemy buffs from friendly fighters. This is your posotion...correct?
