They're doing a public service.

Asian carp are an invasive species that is wreaking havoc on the Mississippi river's ecosystem.  They will work their way into the great lakes which is going to be a disaster for fishing there.

They also jump out of the water if you drive a boat near them.

I was thinking that it would be fun to shoot them like shooting skeet.

There are guides who will take you out to do just that, but with a bow.

I live 15 miles from the mighty Mississippi...So I know all about these dang things!  We have a redneck fishing rodeo held here every year at one of the lakes that is by the river.  You can use anything but firearms or bows. Boat that catches the most fish win.  Pretty funny seeing jon boats full of people armed with football helmets, baseball bats, and nets going out!

The carp have really hurt the fishing around here.  We used to go stripe fishing around the dikes during the summer, and we used to catch tons of fish.  I remember the first time I saw an Asian carp when I was younger...thought it was cool.  Now they've grown to be a nuisance.

No guns or bows huh... How about dynamite? Don't need a big bang either.

Fun until someone is accidentally shot.  Unfortunately you have to be in a moving motorboat to get them to jump.  I would not want to be in a moving motorboat with people firing shotguns.

I wonder if anyone is harvesting these carp for fertilizer.

I think there are a couple smaller scale operations.  This cat is out of the bag, and there is no getting it back in.  The only way I think we can ever hope to control the population is by creating a market for them.  Whether that be fertilizer, or some sort of feed, or fish oil.  There needs to be an economic incentive large enough to get enough guys out there to make a dent in the population.

What an idiot, if you are going to film something and call yourself an expert on primitive hunting the least you could do is learn how to hold your weapon. He's holding the boomerang backwards.

agreed but probably for different reasons.

I understand this is how the Russians deal with incursions of foreign fish

Very true. If you are using a boomerang as a hand held striking weapon, doesn't it by definition then simply become a stick?
