Title: We Internet pilots think we're hard
Post by: Plawranc on February 09, 2013, 05:44:49 PM
These Vietnam chopper pilots are absolutely balls to the wall CRAZY.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qk8XF7TvPq4

Two Huey's recieve reports that a unit engaged on the HCM Trail is pinned. 100 men stuck getting assaulted by what could amount to the entire VC NVA contingent in the region.

Using the choppers rotor blades. They chop an LZ into the undergrowth and make no less than 7 trips to rescue the unit from certain death.

 :salute absolute hero's

It's been my experience that while dustoffs are super brave, the gunship guys are absolutely bughouse crazy...even out of the
cockpit.

Says the video cant be played in my country due to copyright claims by the Smithsonian Networks.

I'm sorry, but isn't the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.?

"This video contains content from Smithsonian Networks, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds. "

My uncle flew medivac choppers in Vietnam. I've never heard him talk about it. He did 2 tours.

They should be ashamed of themselves.

The Victoria and Albert museum in London got greedy once and started charging people to enter, it made less money than it did before from donations :rofl

Greed is fantastic when it back fires :rofl

I won $7600000 on the lottery and its all mine :rofl

Don't need to click on the links. Saw the original programme. Simply awestruck. I'm a real commercial pilot, not internet but I could only dream of doing what they did.

We are nothing, compared to those heroes.

Yet they would reject our hero worship. They did their duty, no more no less.

I remember back when i was 10 or so (early 80s) my dad and I comming upon an accident on a highway up near where we lived. Dad stopped to give the drivers aid, and the ambulance showed up right after us. Not 10 mins later off in the distance  thud...thud..thud...thud....a nd in she came... Dad grabbed me and we went over to the car. The Medivac pilot landed that chopper right in the middle of a 3 lane highway with the skill that still sticks in my head today. Dad looked at the landing and down at me and said....."Kid, i guarentee you that pilot was a chopper pilot in Vietnam, that was a textbook Hot LZ landing" I Remember it to this day. There was no slow hover it was, you heard the chopper, and boom he was on the ground. Was a feat of airmanship to behold to say the least.

Anybody that thinks they're hard because they are an internet pilot probably needs to go outside for some fresh air.  :lol
