Delirium, the trainer is very good in the 38. He did a session on the flying of the 38 a while back and it was filmed. I'll hunt around to see if I can find it.
Edit: found it!
Here is the site that has the text version http://www.fw190.org/P38Clinic.htm
Here is the film of the clinic http://www.fw190.org/p38_6.ahf
and here is the post on the boards about it http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,281921.msg3558853.html#msg3558853

If you can run the game you can run the film viewer, just not at the same time.
-
I'm not sure what your saying, but you need the the full version of the game installed. To locate the film viewer you can double click the film and when the windows pops up asking what you want to use to open the file, navigate to C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High\ahfilm.exe and select always use this program for these file. Click ok and it should load the viewer....it takes a minute of two depending on your system. Click the play button and you should be good to go.
I did DL it and run it on my machine this morning and it worked ok.
-
Go to you tube as well and do a P38 search.
Also as you record your own films, look for other P38 sticks that were near you and watch the film from their plane.
Delirum handed my lunch one day so I watched his film several times. Watch too form the external view and get your zoom so you can watch the flap work.
There are many good sticks that fly the P38 llke Drano. Several others that their name doesn't come to me at the moment. I look forward to encountering each one of them. I think the only one I have not run intoi think is AckAck. He also has some impressive stats.
-
Randy, I'd be willing to work with you 1:1 in the TA. Send me a PM and we can set it up.
-
W-W, I'd also be willing to work with you. I worked nights myself for about 15 years, I feel your pain.
I can either spend time with you in the early morning, or in the late night before you go to work, as long as we schedule it out in advance.

In most cases, uninstalling and then reinstalling Aces High should fix the problem. If you're going to uninstall and reinstall, I recommend saving the settings, skins and sound (if you have a collection of custom sounds) folders before uninstalling. I would also recommend running a regcleaner after you uninstall.
ack-ack
-
Reinstalling the game could help if you have just a corrupt file. Going the way Ack-Ack suggest is a second option and maybe a safer one. I didn't read this whole page, but getting this error could be caused by malware and a reg cleaner like Ack-Ack said might be the way to go.
Check it out here http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/mss32-dll-not-found-missing-error.htm

Hi Delirium, yes I would love to take you up on that offer & thanx for the umm.. 'offering' of the offer.. :headscratch:
I have Thursdays & Fridays off, so if that works for you
-
Hmm, I'm kinda embarrassed at my unfamiliarity with the film viewer :o, but how does one reduce the ambient+engine noise levels in the viewer. I thought it would mirror whatever I set in game, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to. :pray

The game is running ok? Just the film viewer isn't working?
-

I can't do Wednesdays (they are booked solid already) or Thursdays, but otherwise I'm clear. The best times for me is after 9pm est, send me a PM and we'll discuss it.
-
If you like, come spend a flight or a night winging up with the 113th Lucky Strikes, a P38 squad, we fly as knights (12) years, use vox 113 and fly Saturday evening starting around 7:pm EST. Check out our wiki page for training films.

Yeah the game runs fine & I can record films also, I just can't watch them
I'm running Win7-64bit.. could that be an issue ??
W-W
Edit: I got it working.. I had to reinstall everything & then get rid of the old desktop shortcut.. I need to read more thoroughly
Thanx for the help all..

I have the same with no issues. You can't run the game and the viewer at the same time. They need some of the same files , if the game has them open, the viewer is locked out.

Nothing special but a few films I've recorded and posted recently.

Thanks for posting.

Here's one from yesterday, felt a little bad about the HO shot. We had had a good fight earlier, I already felt like I was in pretty deep at that point and really wanted to knock them down as quick as I good in whatever fashion I could as long as it didn't expose me to return fire.
I don't think the film shows it but right at the end, the P-40 get's several hits on me which caused a pilot wound (big surprise in the 38 I know :)) which is why I dropped down so low on the recovery and lost my position. At that point I went after the only target I could see and the others shot me down.

Souless, do you tend to work the top of a furball in the 38?
One of my biggest problems is staying on a target too long and getting deep into a furball exposing my 6 to the many reds. I think I need some sort of mental count say like 3 seconds to make a shot or move on.
Often times as well I will sacrifice E for a difficult shot which is never smart.
Your films help a lot. Thanks for sharing them.
-
Furballs are all about picks. You watch and look for guys busy chasing someone... someone staying to long on a target maybe :devil Dive in, take your shot and blast out. Don't climb! Lots of other pickers are looking to catch you at the top of your zoom.
If your taking 3 seconds to line up on a shot in a furball you SHOULD be dead. Anticipation is the biggest key. Anticipate where your target will be....as well as all the other are going to be especially those that are targeting you.Get to that spot, take your shot, and get out. Very rarely do you stay on a target long enough to get that kill shot, or see him go boom..... unless your using one of the big cannon toys.
Ever see that "citybank" commercial on TV where the guy gives the woman a chance at the money booth and it raining quarters instead of bills? "Duck and Dodge in there!"
-
Anticipate where your target will be . . . . Get to that spot, take your shot, and get out.
That is exactly what I need to work on. You are dead solid perfect on that piece of advice.
-
Furballs are all about picks.
Sadly, this is true. It is worse yet for anyone in a P38 as that aircraft tends to draw more attention than any other, aside from perk aircraft.
You might want to do what some of us do and 'work the fringes'. Stay on the edge of the furball and work 1 or 2 cons at a time, or drag a couple out of the mess instead.

I work the edges ill drop some bait in and drag them out 1 at a time
-
Yeah definitely not the right plane to be yankin' and bankin' in the middle of a furball. You'll quickly become everyone's favorite target. In furballs--pick the edges, stay fast, hit hard and get out. If you simply must engage for any period of time try to do it on the friendly side of the mess that way if somebody's gonna get picked (and that NEVER happens ) it's more likely to happen to the guy you're fighting than to you.
Head on a swivel at all times. It's important to identify the targets but more importantly to identify the threats and be prepared for them. The idea is to stay alive--generally. I try to have just enough parts left to land with. The 38 has all kinds of extra parts---which comes in handy! :aok
Prolly the best skill is gunnery. Looking at Soulyss' films up the thread just now he always amazes me at how he hardly misses. I OTOH am lucky to connect with a guy that's filing my windscreen :lol. Oh I'll tag the guy here and there sure. You'd think as long as I've been doing this I'd have picked up the shooting thing by now. But I guess not. My bad gunnery gets me killed an awful lot. Maybe not by the guy I missed but by the guy that's coming 8 or 9 seconds from now and that guy's coming especially in a furball. You see from the films that as he's able to kill quickly he's able to move on to the next threat/target quickly. Very important skill to develop.
-
I am sure glad y'all talked me into staying with the P38. It is a remarkable plane when you start getting the feel for what it can do.
Fugative, I practiced your advice today and it works
TwinBoom, Drano and Delirium, I will work on the outside furball this week following y'all's advice. Man I love a good furball but I need to be smarter about them
Had a good battle with Latrobe in his 109 this afternoon. He eats my lunch normally and quick but I finally won one today and was quite proud to win one with such a fine stick. I need to look at the film but I think he stalled it low while trying to follow a full flap yo-yo that was on the edge of the P38 falling like a rock. I will not win probably the next 9 with him but now I have a bit of hope. :salute

I'm looking forward to working with you, Randy. :salute

Couple more from tonight since it seems that some folks are at least enjoying them.
Was an off and on night in the MA, been spending some time in the SpitV trying to get ready for the scenario that starts this weekend
***shameless plug***

Anyway the 'ol 38G felt like a brick after an evening in the little spitfire. First flight starts out well enough but as is my SOP I quickly get in over my head. :)

This one I think is more interesting because of the things I did wrong more than what I did right, was very lucky to survive this flight.

I am looking forward to the training session Delirum. I stalled the 38 twice last night at the top of a loop setting myself up for an easy kill. I really need the help. :aok
Soulyss, you are a terrific shot. Do you zoom for most shots?

There's something I don't hear very often. :)
I don't think of myself as a particularly good shot, missing shots gets me killed more often than not in the MA. If you watch the films and check the box film viewer that says "Use recorded views" it will show when I'm using zoom and when I'm not.
In general I don't use it very much I don't think when possible I prefer not to zoom in. When I do use it is when I'm having trouble seeing my target. My eyesight isn't very good especially viewing certain colors, more specifically greens tend to blend together and I have a real hard time making out distinct shapes. You'll see that one of the times I use zoom is when I'm diving on the P-47 in the last film, when I'm looking down and it's a green P-47 against the green ground during dawn/dusk in the MA I was having a real hard time seeing him, making out the P-47 shape or seeing which way it was oriented compared to me.
One easy little "drill" that I like to do when I'm killing time in the TA is set up on the runway 25% or 50% fuel and perform a normal take off, as soon as the plane get's airborne I level and hug the ground, when I get down towards the end of the runway I pull and zoom straight up. If you can keep the plane going straight up you can hold it there down to 0 airspeed, after that I drop off and dive I zoom back down the runway and do it on the other end. I stay within the length of the runway, I feel like it helps with my spatial orientation as well low speed handling because you have to make a lot of small adjustments as the speed bleeds off, if you don't have the nose going straight up, the plane will fall off before IAS get's down to 0. You can also practice the stalls at the top, see if you can decide which way you're going to fall off then do it, practice over the top, nose/bunt over, rudder left, rudder right, etc.
-
Soulyss, i will give that practice a go this afternoon offline. That should give me a good tuneup. I recently changed my trackir setting and that threw off by vertical climbing perspective and orientation. i got beat badly in vertical climbs last night because of that.
I will post how the practice goes.
Yes, I have the same slight color blindness. Just enough to make it difficult to see someone near the ground.
Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help.
If you haven't done so, find other colors than the default red/green for the countries. I personally use a deep blue for friendly and bright yellow for enemy, and it helps immensely with my red/green colorblindness.

I have added blue with the slider but have not tried changing the base color. That is a good thought.
-
I experimented a lot with different icon colors over the years, I ended up settling on the default colors but inverted where friendlies are red and enemies are bright green.
-
I don't shoot till I'm 200 off usually...so color don't matter ,i can tell you my opponents eye color though in a fight.

Got it Souless. Thanks again to you and Del. Special thanks rto Del for the training session. I have lots to work on. You read and read and study, but having someone work one on one with you is a real eye opener.
