Yes, I was there for the beta...
Arcade mode. All graphics, but the menus are convoluted and bugged like hell. Most folks fly with a mouse and the forces acting upon a plane are dumbed down to the point that's the BEST way to fly. You can map control sticks and throttles but what's the point? You get no more precision from it.
Then there's a limited planeset that's got prototypes and what-iffs, basically trying to make the same plane for every country... so because Japan doesn't have a jet they model the Japanese upgrade for the 262 which never got out of engine testing in the real war.
Then there's the plane structure. You earn score, then use that score to "buy" better planes. And better stuff. Like engine power boosts, and you actually have to buy crew for multicrewed planes... But flying any plane damages it (heaven forbid you lose the plane) and you have to pay to maintain that plane too....
So you have to linearly upgrade several tiers up from 1930s-era planes to get to what might be considered mid-war planes here, and then it gets nearly impossible to keep them. You earn less score and pay more for basic stuff just to stay there.
Kind of like World of Tanks, from what one person told me of WoT (never tried it).
Overall, it's going to tank and badly. It doesn't have the physics of a flight sim. It's going all out for eye candy, but it's totally arbitrary right now in regards to actual plane handling.

ah yes, the 'buy upgades' crap.
sounds like WoT; looked interesting till I saw that part, then didn't bother with it.

I saw a couple of video's of it... It has only been about a year since I've had something put me to sleep within a minute. That was when I had a couple of minor surgeries. :lol

Well, WoT is buy with real money... this is like perk points, kind of. You earn them by fighting in a plane....
Think of it as perk points rolled into a rolling plane set... You have to work your way up from the earliest planes by earning and spending perks on them as you go...
I'm sure that's not a very accurate description, but I am trying to put it into terms you might understand from AH.

oh, I understand. doesn't sound like something I wanna invest time into

To sum it up KG, your not missing anything....IMO.

Tried it. I remember it was nearly impossible to setup my CH stick, especially the hat switch views. This was probably 6 weeks ago. Had some potential, but they don't actually have realistic flight models for most planes, the arena was like a call of duty map,, and the overall feel was x-box.

I had the invite :)
I gave it a try for a week and then uninstalled it :)
We should log on pick a arena and then fly a plane from a airfield and fight online with people from all over the world,If someone developed a game like a would play it a lot :)
The Typhoon is awesome :)

No, you don't have to spend real money in WoT either, you can do it with earned points. Money just makes you upgrade quicker but that doesn't make it any easier because you will be matched in battle.

Ive played its ok at best....when I have to fight a Lagg3 or a F4u1c with a 1930s era Biplane and I cant figure out how to set up a six oclock view with my Hat switch which is of course the one area I need to see.

Both world of tanks and war thunder use the same type of system.
