Title: Bump Mapping vs Detail Terrain and Water
Post by: Randy1 on February 28, 2013, 12:45:22 PM
Somehow or other, I got the idea that Detailed Terrain had to checked before you could checked Bump Map Terrain.  The map last night knocked down my frame rate to the forties at times.  I then by accident left the bump map on with the Detailed Terrain off and that worked well pushing the frame rate back to 60.

Is Bump mapping an add-on to the Detail terrain or is Bump mapping terrain meant to stand alone i.e, and either or?

Is bump mapping more efficient in terms of video processing over the Detailed Terrain and Water choices?

Did you have that update slider to the left?

That had a dramatic effect on everything :old:

Zack, I do have the slider set at "None".  I did try it one time and you are right, it will drag down FPS in a big way.

I wonder if a hierarchy could be written down that would guide a person through all the video settings?

I too wonder why the settings making up the "default" were chosen?

You make it sound like a 40 frame rate is bad. I hold a fairly steady 30 FPS with most of the visual effects turned up and I am completely fine with it. You have to play with a stead frame rate for about 20 minutes and your brain will adjust and accept it as normal.
