Who's planning on or currently waiting to deploy and with what branch? And do we have. Any past Sea Bee's out there?
-
Not too sure yet, but I might deploy sometime in April. Subjective though because we only have a few slots left.
If I do ill go to Afghanistan for the second time. In reality though, Twentynine palms is just like Afghanistan anyways lol.

Wish I had the opportunity to serve. I got PDQ'd because of two vascular stents as a result of a vascular condition known as May-Thurner Syndrome.

Because I'm doing college leading to University, I'm joining the Army Reserve (Australia's version of the National Guard) at the end of this year.
Was going to try being a pilot... then I hit 6 ft 3 at 15 and realized that I was not built for combat flying.
-
I plan on joining up in the Army when i'm 18. I'd like to be placed in the spot of an M1 Armor Crewman if I get picked for it.

Hey I'm some guy on the internet who you don't really know. Can you give me operational details on you and your unit's deployment plans? While you're at it, send your name, address, full SSN, birthdate, mothers maiden name, and where you park your car while you're deployed. And does your wife have a gun at home, and does she know how to use it while you're away?
Nothing personal about the OP but to a couple of the people who responded... really? Remember that briefing where they told you to expect people asking for stuff on the CIL (critical information list) and what to do when asked? Come on. Seriously, WTF.

Good Luck Selino, BTW, did you take the FAST yet? (If that's even what it's still called).
Good Luck with the CB's :aok
Oh and Smep, you must've been quite drunk as stated :rofl

I'm jointing the TA here in the UK , going into the Signals . Passed my first set of tests with a well above average score (enough to go to officer training if I wanted too) . Waiting on my medical records now .

Don't pay any attention to him, he's probably a spy. Send your details to me, after all I'm a foreign guy on the internet. You can trust me completely. I won't pass any information onto my friends at a certain foreign embassy. :salute

You going to be in Hueneme for Pnt. Magu's ("Naval Base Ventura" or w/e they call the whole place now) air show, or just gonna miss it?

OPSEC everyone!
My thoughts exactly when it came to the "soon deploying" part.

Possibly headed to Bahrain for the Coast Guard next year if the papers get through but that's a long time from now. Keeping the fingers crossed.

as for the military being a stupid choice..
For someone just out of high school with no prospect of a scholarship ride thru college
and tired of fast food/manual labor 'careers' ..it is a way to bootstrap yourself and you *will* learn more than you bargained for.
Do the research, find out which branch offers the best incentives in the area that interests you.
Talking to a recruiter is exactly like dealing with a shady car dealer .. talk to the guys who are in.
The other career choice is earn a college degree while workin at McDonalds or Wal-Mart ..
*then* start the career you want, use the heck outta the school job counselors, hit every opening with your best shot.
Or ..can go Armed Forces as an officer once you have a degree.
In the USAF it was 6 months to Lootenant then a year to Captain and 2 years to Major
..provided you did not step on any land mines (like punching out your Wing Commander or some such)
..then its up to you to really jam if you want to go further.
The biggest problem with the military is, the Peter Principle is alive and well.
People in it rise to the level of their incompetence ..you meet some real losers along the way..
..and some you have to actually pay attention to.
The absolute best way to deal with them is make the next rank and tell 'em to f-off.
Worked for me -evil grin-

Only better ..I'd start in high school and ask the girl out! -grin-
Can only imagine if I had a do-over knowing what I know now.
As for what service is best ..well .. my dad was in Patton's 3rd
..he told me flat out if I enlisted in the Army he would kill me.
I beleived him altho I was kinda enamored about goin into Armor (they offered 1500 dollar sign on just for that back then)
So I flipped a coin, USAF or Navy .. USAF won.
Then talked to some guys who were in ..they told me of the 6-year enlistment, guaranteed career field sign on.
Had no idea about a career but the recruiter said electronic warfare systems tech,
if I passed the tests,
would teach me how to put speakers in my car.
That was the only question I asked him ..LOL.
I passed the tests.
-grin-
The six year enlistment meant I was a two striper out of basic and an NCO (3 stripes) a year later.
That helped a LOT since I was married with a daughter when I enlisted.
Still ..it would have been better to have gone in as officer material ..far better standard of living.
IMHO.

Just got out of Mavy basic, I'm at Nuke school now. Got a lot of work ahead of me before I get to see the fleet.

Almost 21 years now, I still love it. I do not know what I would do if I had to get a real job. Taking care of Soldiers, short notice taskings, deploying & redeploying, but there is a lot of time off too. I just finished as the Rear D First Sergeant, then they gave me my own company, how crazy is that?
I do love it.

My Grandfather fought in WWI, my Father WWII, I fought in Vietnam, had my son lived, I’m sure he would have marched off to one or other of America’s wars. Eisenhower warned of the “Military Industrial Complex”, we as a nation failed to listen, to busy earning a living from it I guess.
This nation’s pursuit of war has bankrupt the country and taken a toll on its greatest resource our youth. I returned from Vietnam after 18 months with only minor wounds, never to have to return. I was lucky, today’s boys have to do multiple tours , being exposed to the trauma over and over.
Its time this National gets out of the business of war. My exposure to agent orange was evidently extensive, resulting in actual gene damage . I can only imagine the horror that awaits our modern warriors upon their return. I truly am sorry for the loss of your son. I do understand how difficult it is to bury a son. I know you served, perhaps in your grief you may have forgotten why we serve. It’s not for love of country, Mom and apple pie, or the girl back home. It’s not for DuPont , Ford or General Motors and it’s definitely not Profit. We do what we do in combat for the man on our right and the man on our left, for the guys we worked , trained and fought with, we fight for each other . Because at that moment they are our family, truly a band of brothers.
-
I come from an old New England Military family as well, and no, I haven't forgotten why I served..
I haven't forgotten what I taught my sons either.. Same thing that was taught to me..
About a debt that can't be pain in money! We all owe it, and have to take our turn..
The fact that we take up this burden willingly, no matter the consequences, does bind us all..
All that depends on the honor and integrity of those giving the orders..
But current events have shown me, that that no longer applies..
So for me, the chain has been broken, not by me, and not by my family..
I feel anger and shame that this has been allowed to happen..
I curse them!

24 years in the USAF and I would do it all again.....probably make a few different decisions but I had a great time. The best were the downrange deployments.

Currently 4 months into my Field Artillery officer training at Ft. Sill and graduate towards the end of May. Heading to 1/1AD at Ft. Bliss in July for my first duty station.

Finished my 24 in 2000. Had a great time, started out as MP then transfered to Armor. I loved tanks and would do it all over again.

My son is about to deploy to the afgan theater.....of coarse as his father Iam a little worried but he is a strong kid and should do fine, He currently serves with the Army's 10th mountain division. crewman and maintenance for CH-47's, climb to glory <S> all those who serve and those retired but still supporting the fight, My time in the army nobody was shooting at us, 80-84.
-

Pride aside, Hawaii is not a deployment. It's an excuse for you to take a Hawaiian vacation...or a few.

6 years was more than enough for me(not especially enjoyable and quite a waste of time)... Go to school instead.... The women are much hotter and you will have skills and education you can use in real life, even if you don't graduate.... My MOS was an LPN(Licensed Practical Nurse).. My training had no application in the real world.. I couldn't go to work at any hospital unless I wanted to be an orderly or receptionist.. Spent 2 years in school and 4 years active duty with too many pointless and wasteful deployments.... Caused more problems in my life than anything else.... Leave it for those who have nothing else going on in life or no hope of aspiring to be anything else.. Unless you are an officer, it is a waste to enlist if your IQ is over 100.. Go to school first, then try to become an officer..
**could care less about anyone's pointless, anti-patriotic rhetoric**

there last Feb, hoping he's going to get home in June for leave.

I sincerely regret not signing on the dotted line for service in the US Army (and/or National Guard). I went through MEPS three times, DQ'd once, and the other two times (#2 and #3) I got cold feet. Trip #2 I had just graduated college and was entering the "real world", and had been married for 1 1/2 years to my wonderful wife. I was going to do the enlistment thing for 2 years then go OCS after the bonus period expired. I simply got cold feet and had heard too many horror stories as to getting the run around once in. On trip #3, my baby girl was not quite a year old and my son had just turned 3 years old. My wife was fully supportive. I went through MEPS that 3rd time and all I could think about was my family and me not being there. I was hounded by the recruiting Sgt, then a Cpt, then a Maj, and then a Colonel (for the OCS stuff). I received phone calls for 6 months after that third trip to MEPS. That was 2005.
Now... I regret not going. If you have any itch what-so-ever, do it. Do not be like me and fold to getting cold feet. Do it young, get in and get out, do your service to your country, state, etc, and then move on. My 2 cents.

Bah! Going in for free schooling. And we'll see how my first 8 years go before I think about anything else.
-
Free schooling got turned off temporarily. Don't imagine that it'll always be there. Wouldn't be the first nor the last time the mil has taken away benefits after people signed away several years of their life.
Do NOT join the military for the perks/benefits or free anything. Trust me, you'll pay through the donut for whatever you get, so you need a better reason to join up than getting some free stuff.

Well done Zach for having plan :salute

Claim "Troll" all you wish.... It's reality.... Anyone not agreeing is lying to themselves....
I never got anything from being in the military except wasting time and being told to hurry up and wait 90% of the time and the nice hole in my thigh as well....
My G.I. Bill covered two years of schooling and that was tuition only.. No books, no fees.. And the payment was always late.. Even had to sit out a few semesters due to late payment..
And then to come home and be called a hero for doing nothing.... Too much military worship going on these days and too many
kids with potentially brighter futures are brainwashed into wasting 4 years under the illusion they are "serving" their country in some back-water camp
on the other side of the world cleaning latrines and told to do 10 different jobs by 50 different people 100 different ways by people who've never done the jobs themselves..
By all means, live under the illusion you are doing something grand.... That's your right.. But, in reality, you aren't serving your country or protecting anything but
financial interests of people who could care less if you are blown to pieces....

Perception is everything. Experiences is as well. I'm sure there are people that spent their says *exactly* as you did yet told their story °180 differently that you. I'll respect your opinion since I've not walked in your shoes, but for everyone like you there is another who stand tall and are proud of their experience.
btw... thanks for your service. :salute

I enjoyed my 7 years of service, I wouldn't trade it for anything!
I do understand that there are those who didn't, It's not for everyone,
but someone has to do it, and I felt I was one of those people, I traveled around the world,
I met great people from all over this country and most of the free world,
I even met many East German soldiers, we drank together, happy that we did not have to kill each other!
I was there when the Wall came down, I watched as free people won over Tyranny IMO,,,
I saw the smiles on the faces of those who wanted to be on our side and thanks to us,, they got that chance!
-
I have never nor will I ever look back my military career with any major regrets. I did the college thing before I went into the military and I chose to be enlisted because my dad was enlisted and I wanted to honor his service by doing my time like he did his. Like alot of things the military is not for everyone and sometimes you have to join to find that out, serve honorably and move on. I have no issues with any of my children going into the the military whether wartime or peacetime it is for them to decide not my wife or myself. In the end, no one has to ever justify why they do things to anyone but themselves. I like being the 1 % that is able to do and I like the life I am able to provide my family with because of it. :salute

Anodizer:
May as well go eat some worms, dood.
(reference to a song from long ago)
I finished my first Associate degree in the USAF.. Avionics Technology, 4.0 GPA.
Ok it was almost a gimme ..I had so much related Field Training all I had to take were English, History, Child Psychology (came in far more handy than I thought it would dealing with people like ..well .. you, f'rinstance), and a couple others.
I learned more than I ever wanted to know about the exciting career of 'Electronics' (LOL)
Made some life-long friends along with meeting some people that were a total waste of space..
..learned how to work as a team, with a team, and supervise a team to get an important job done.
Learned to trust my own judgement.
'Sad Sack' attitudes like yours did not last long on the flightline.
USAF needs cooks too and I recommended that for some who were not up to the task at hand.

LOL. I forgot to list the 522 college credit hours I got from the Army and Air Force schools I attended , while in service.
Even if the G.I. Bill isn't paying off right now, you can still get a good bit of real world EDU. While in service,, most platoon SGTs. Make sure you never miss a class,, as long as your enrolled and making an effort to better yourself

Well interesting idea. But the difficult life I've had,I wouldn't mind being praised and worshiped. And I plan to be in for 20 years. Best part tho is I turn 21 in boot 20 days before graduation :x
And did you go in with a positive idea? I respect your opinion
and all but telling people they have toeither be dumb is silly. Slot of jobs require intelligent individuals.
And peeps may Norbert able to afford college. And my parents make just enough so I CANT get financial aid. I'd much rather go
to the military. My whole life I've been told I should join, and aloft of them were in the service. Bottom line, you sir have a bad attitude :salute
